Afghanistan to host Bangladesh for T20Is in India

The games will be played in Dehradun, a north Indian city that has not hosted international cricket before

ESPNcricinfo staff09-May-2018Ahead of their highly anticipated Test debut against India next month, Afghanistan will also host Bangladesh for three T20 internationals in Dehradun, the capital of the state of Uttarakhand in north India. The matches are all day-night fixtures beginning at 8pm IST and will be played on June 3, 5 and 7. They will be the first significant fixtures held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun.”From the report I got, the ground looks fine and there are enough facilities. The hotels are also quite good,” Akram Khan, BCB’s cricket operations chairman, said. The only slight problem being the hotel is about 45 minutes from the ground. Otherwise everything seems fine. I think we will also be playing a practice match ahead of the three-match series.”The two countries have played each other only once previously – at the 2014 World Twenty20 in Dhaka – where hosts Bangladesh routed Afghanistan by nine wickets. Afghanistan are currently ranked eighth on the ICC T20I team rankings, and Bangladesh are tenth. The Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Shafiq Stanikzai said: “The ongoing training camp in India in which players from the national and U-19 teams as well as top performers from domestic cricket will help the selection committee to select a strong side for the T20I series against Bangladesh. These matches will be important for both sides to gain valuable points in the ICC rankings and the lead up to the 2020 ICC World Twenty20″.”This promises to be a very competitive series,” BCB chief executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said. “Afghanistan have some fine players for this format and they will have the advantage of familiarity with the conditions in Dehradun. However, the Bangladesh team is a confident and experienced unit and we are really looking forward to the matches.”Afghanistan’s one-off Test against India begins in Bengaluru on June 14.

Everton Could Sign Their Own Gakpo In "Electric" £26m Ace

Everton have endured a torrid start to the Premier League season, and manager Sean Dyche is now hoping to kickstart his side's campaign with a promising end to the transfer window.

The Merseyside outfit only just avoided relegation last term, winning against Bournemouth on the final day, and have been busy this summer in beefing up the ranks, with four new faces arriving and centre-forward Beto expected to complete a £30m move.

The club must not rest on their laurels if they are to cast aside the dreadful start to the year that has yielded no points or goals from the opening three matches, and might've now identified a talent to spark life back into the attack.

Will Everton sign another attacker?

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Toffees are firmly in contention to sign PSV Eindhoven winger this week, though will have to bypass Paris Saint-Germain, who have already lodged a €25m (£21m) offer.

The Eredivisie outfit are reluctant to grant the departure of their rising star, however, and have set a valuation in excess of €30m (£26m) for the Belgian, who is also on Brentford and Burnley's radar.

How good is Johan Bakayoko?

Having been described as a "wonderful talent" with a "fantastic left foot" by scout Jacek Kulig, the rising talent has earned four assists from his first six matches this year, including a brace against Rangers in the Champions League qualifying round first-leg.

PSV Eindhoven'sJohanBakayokoin action with FC Zurich's Karol Mets

In fact, during that display Bakayoko chalked up a match-best Sofascore rating of 8.6, taking four shots, succeeding with 80% (4/5) of his dribbles, making five key passes, winning seven of his 11 duels and taking 65 touches, in the thick of the action with an all-encompassing display.

Praised as one of his club's "heroes" by Kulig for that momentous performance, it's clear that Everton would secure a bona fide coup by sealing Bakayoko's signature, and it could prove to be a move to emulate city rivals Liverpool's recent foray into the Eindhoven transfer pool, having signed Cody Gakpo for £35m in January.

The Dutchman joined the Anfield side at last year's midpoint after starring at the 2022 World Cup, scoring three goals, and thriving in the Eredivisie, posting 13 goals and 17 assists from 24 outings across all competitions.

The 24-year-old is not stylistically comparable to Bakayoko, playing in a similar false-nine role to Roberto Firmino for Liverpool, whereas the PSV starlet utilises his "electric" pace – as said by Kulig – to drive through the enemy lines and wreak havoc at will.

But despite this, the 20-year-old brings a similar level of flair and ingenuity to his craft, and it could prove to be a masterful signing to revitalise the Toffees attack.

The "talented winger", as has been noted by Fabrizio Romano, ranks among the top 7% of attacking midfielders and wingers across the eight leagues most comparable to the Eredivisie for assists, the top 11% for shot-creating actions, the top 1% for progressive carries and the top 5% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.

It's clear that he could spark life into an Everton team bereft of inspiration right now, and if Dyche can convince the four-cap international to catalyse the Goodison Park side's season, he could rival Gakpo as PSV's brightest talent to have made the move to English shores of late.

Liverpool Eyeing Move For "Elite" £51m Star

Liverpool are now eyeing a move for OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram, but they may have to do battle for his signature with a top European club, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

What's the latest Liverpool transfer news?

With a new central midfielder clearly one of Jurgen Klopp's main priorities, the manager will be pleased that progress is being made towards signing Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch, with productive talks being held with the German club in recent days.

Talks have also been held over a move for Crystal Palace's Cheick Doucoure, with Klopp keen on adding more midfielders to his ranks, despite the recent addition of Wataru Endo, who Galetti believes will prove to be a shrewd addition to the squad, saying:

"When you look at the qualities that he has, it's pretty obvious what he'll bring to Liverpool. Stamina, tenacity, excellent coverage of the field.

"I think, therefore, Endo will take very well and quickly to the pace of the Premier League. In the same way, for example, that James Milner was a fantastic servant for the football club, despite the fact that he was getting on in age."

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Galetti also detailed that Thuram is still being targeted by Liverpool, but there may be some competition for the OGC Nice midfielder's signature.

The journalist said: "Khephren Thuram is another name on the list. For the French midfielder there is also interest from Juventus. Manu Kone, who is also followed by Borussia Dortmund, represents another profile and is always appreciated by Klopp."

At the moment, Liverpool's interest appears to be tentative, with no recent contact or formal bid being made, but earlier in the window it was suggested that Nice are looking for a fee of €60m (£51m) if they are to part ways with their star midfielder.

Is Khephren Thuram a defensive midfielder?

The France U21 international is a fairly well-rounded player, given that he is capable of pitching in defensively, ranking in the 78th percentile for interceptions per 90 over the past year, and he also poses a threat on the front foot, placing in the 92th percentile for successful take-ons.

However, the 22-year-old has predominantly featured in a defensive midfield role throughout his career so far, having established himself as a key player for Nice over the course of the past two seasons, making a combined 71 appearances in Ligue 1.

khephren-thuram-liverpool-transfer-news-premier-league

There is evidence the maestro would be capable of slotting right into the first team at Liverpool, given that he has been lauded as an "elite ball carrier" by journalist Zach Lowy, who also praises him for his ability to win the ball high up the pitch, making him perfect for Klopp.

That said, it does not seem like he is a priority for Klopp at present, considering the move for Gravenberch is now progressing, so it would be a surprise if Thuram moves to Anfield before the transfer deadline, even though he could be an excellent addition.

From Bruce Reid to Mitchell Johnson: Five memorable Ashes collapses

ESPNcricinfo recalls five occasions in which England’s batting malfunctioned after a seemingly serene start to an Ashes innings.

Andrew Miller15-Dec-2017England let slip a golden opportunity on the second day at the WACA, as they lost their last six wickets for 35 runs to squander the gains made in a 237-run stand between Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow. It was not, however, an unheard-of turn of events. ESPNcricinfo recalls five other memorable Ashes collapsesBruce Reid appeals for an lbw against Alec Stewart•Getty Images

8 for 47 – Melbourne 1990-91: 103 for 2 to 150 all out In the early days of England’s 1990s ignominy, it was possible still to dream – even after a rancid defeat in the first Test at Brisbane had left Graham Gooch’s men playing catch-up as the focus shifted to the MCG. And for three-and-a-half days they brawled above expectations. A David Gower century and six wickets for Angus Fraser secured a precious lead of 46, which Gooch and Wayne Larkins then extended to 149 with nine second-innings wickets intact – the perfect platform for an epoch-altering win. Enter Bruce Reid, Australia’s Metal Mickey left-arm seamer, who dropped it on a length from the full extension of his 6’8″ frame to claim innings-wrecking figures of 7 for 51. Give or take a couple of ducks, England’s final scorecard bore an uncanny resemblance to a toll-free helpline – 0800 810010 – as that winter’s Ashes campaign was declared a national emergency.Australia celebrate the wicket of Mark Ramprakash which began England’s collapse•Getty Images

7 for 40 – Adelaide 1998-99: 187 for 3 to 227 all out Another series in the balance, another innings of flickering hope. England had been baked alive on the opening day at Adelaide – put out to field in 40-degree heat and made to suffer by a Justin Langer epic. But Darren Gough and Dean Headley performed heroics to keep Australia below 400, and while Nasser Hussain and Mark Ramprakash were adding 103 for England’s fourth wicket, Australia were just beginning to rue the absence of the injured Shane Warne. But the meltdown was only ever a matter of time. It came soon after the resumption on the third morning when Ramprakash edged to second slip. The rest “strode on and off again as fast as models on a catwalk,” wrote Wisden, as Hussain was left high and dry on 89 not out.Michael Vaughan pulls during his 177•PA Photos

7 for 47 – Adelaide 2002-03: 295 for 3 to 342 all outIf careers could be judged by their zeniths alone, then the Michael Vaughan who tore into Sri Lanka, India and Australia in 2002-03 would have a serious case to be considered the greatest England batsman of all time. He attained a fever pitch of elegance, aggression and durability to rack up seven mighty hundreds in the space of as many months, including arguably the finest of the lot – 177 on the first day of Adelaide. His onslaught, in the shadow of a bruising Brisbane defeat, featured drives, pulls and a tint of controversy after a disputed catch on 19. But most of all, it featured head-scratching impotence from one of the finest Test attacks ever assembled, and as he carried England to 295 for 3 in the final over of the day, England had a toe-hold in the campaign. But then, in tore Andy Bichel for one last tilt. Vaughan nibbled fatally to slip, and England knew there and then that they were toast.Ian Bell avoids a short ball by Mitchell Johnson•Getty Images

9 for 81 – Brisbane 2013-14: 55 for 1 to 136 all outIt’s hard to recall now quite how optimistic England had been at the end of the first innings of the 2013-14 Ashes. Stuart Broad had risen above the bear-baiting from the Aussie crowds and media to claim 6 for 81, and though a certain Mitchell Johnson claimed, prettily brazenly, that Australia’s 295 would prove to be more than enough, England quietly scoffed at his assertion – this was the same Johnson, after all, who had been ridiculed in his previous two Ashes campaigns, and had played no part at all in the 3-0 defeat in England earlier that year. Whoops. Even during a disarmingly erratic start, it was clear that Johnson’s pace was of a register few have ever matched. Sure enough, he returned before lunch to brand England’s batting with some of the most searing heat imaginable.A collapse that didn’t matter: David Gower acknowledges his century•Getty Images

9 for 93 – The Oval 1985: 371 for 1 to 464 all out But, it’s not always doom and gloom when England’s batting goes haywire – as was amply proven in a run-laden sixth Test at The Oval in 1985. Needing only a draw to reclaim the Ashes, after an innings win at Edgbaston, David Gower and Graham Gooch ground Australia’s resistance to dust with a mighty stand of 351. Gower’s 157 capped the most glorious year of his career – victory as captain in India, and now 732 runs in a triumphant home summer – while Gooch’s career-best 196 confirmed his second coming after a three-year ban for touring South Africa. But thereafter the innings turned a little odd. Geoff Lawson and Craig McDermott tore through a middle order in which England’s next-highest score was 16. But it mattered not. Australia folded twice in the space of a day and a half to wrap up a 3-1 series win.

Leeds: Farke Plots Move For "Incredible" £15m Talent To Replace Wober

Leeds United will kick off their Championship campaign this weekend at Elland Road, and now a fresh update has emerged on the club's pursuit of a potential transfer target.

What's the latest on Leeds' interest in Taylor Harwood-Bellis?

According to Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross, the Whites' interim football advisor Nick Hammond has lodged enquiries with representatives of Manchester City youngster Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

As per the report, Cross claims that it remains to be seen how interested Leeds are in making a concrete move for the defender, but would likely be the most attractive prospect for the player in the Championship if Premier League interest does not amount to anything.

How good is Taylor Harwood-Bellis?

Daniel Farke will be hoping to make a good first impression when he leads his new squad out for the very first time against Cardiff City in west Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon, with nothing short of a victory necessary to get the supporters onside after a difficult 12 months for the club.

Whilst the former Norwich boss will be fully focused on matters on the pitch, there is still a lot of work to be done to make sure the squad is capable of competing over the 46-game campaign ahead.

In terms of defensive departures, Leeds have lost several first-team players over the course of the transfer window with Robin Koch, Rasmus Kristensen and this week, Maximilian Wober made a loan switch to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

As a result, the signing of Harwood-Bellis would be a great piece of business for the Whites and would present a huge opportunity to sign an exciting youth prospect that not only has a wealth of Championship experience, but a worthy Wober successor too.

The England U21 titan spent last season on loan with Burnley, reuniting with Citizens legend Vincent Kompany who also acquired the services of Hardwood-Bellis during his time at Anderlecht too.

taylor-harwood-bellis-championship-leeds-transfers

Over 32 Championship appearances, the 21-year-old scored one goal, delivered two assists, tallied up an 85% pass completion rate and successfully completed 57% of his dribbles, as well as averaging a whopping 91 touches, 69.1 accurate passes, 3.1 clearances and 4.3 duels won per game, playing a massive part in the Clarets promotion to the Premier League.

Not only that, Harwood-Bellis – who has a £15m price tag according to journalist Alan Nixon – ranks in the top 20% of defenders in the Men's 'Next Eight Competitions' for assists, shot-creating actions, progressive passes and interceptions per 90, as per FBref, demonstrating his strong ball-playing and offensive qualities.

The Man City youth academy graduate has unsurprisingly been the recipient of high praise for his development and progression so far, with Kompany waxing lyrical about the talented defender:

"I've known Taylor [Harwood-Bellis] for a long time so what everyone can see on the ball or what everyone can see when he goes into his challenges, I think his biggest quality, that is perhaps more difficult to see on the eye, is his leadership and his incredible drive and high standards."

With that being said, if Leeds could secure the services of Harwood-Bellis this summer it would be a major coup and would undoubtedly help Farke acheive his goal of following in Burnley's footsteps by achieving an instant bounce back to the Premier League.

Nightwatchman Kerrigan hits new heights

Lancashire loanee Simon Kerrigan struck a career-best 62 and Rob Newton pronounced himself king of the half-centuries as Northants achieved a hard-won victory in Cardiff

ECB Reporters Network15-Sep-2017Northants remain in contention for promotion to Division One after defeating Glamorgan in Cardiff. With a game in hand over leaders Worcestershire, next week’s important game against Nottinghamshire, now second, could determine who goes up next season. Northants play bottom club Leicestershire in the final game, and if they replicate this fine all-round performance in their last two games, they have a chance of promotion. They also defeated the weather, after heavy rain stopped play with only nine runs needed for victory. There was delay of 82 minutes, before the rain relented and victory was achieved with 34.4 overs to spare.Simon Kerrigan, who is on loan from Lancashire, ostensibly for his left arm spin, shone as a batsman as Northants reached their target with seven wickets in hand. After coming in as nightwatchman after Ben Duckett was dismissed the previous evening, Kerrigan never looked in any trouble against a Glamorgan attack, who were guilty of bowling too many poor deliveries in the morning session, giving the batsmen opportunities to score freely and set up the run chase.Resuming on 42 for 1, the second wicket pair were soon scoring at four runs an over, and apart from against Michael Hogan, they scored freely and quickly shared a 50-run partnership. Newton reached fifty from 99 balls with nine fours – his second half century of the game- but was out shortly afterwards when he was bowled by Craig Meschede. This was Newton’s tenth score over fifty in the championship this season, the most by any player in the two divisions.Kerrigan’s commendable contribution ended when he was bowled, shouldering arms against Hogan, for 62, equalling his previous career-best score made for Lancashire against Hampshire at Southport in 2013.Following Kerrigan’s dismissal, Richard Levi joined Alex Wakeley, the captain having recovered from his injured finger, and the first-innings centurion made his intentions clear by hitting two sixes as Northants accelerated towards their target. The rain then descended and it was a frustrating wait for the visitors, but when play restarted they needed only a further nine balls to reach their target, and take a welcome 22 points.

Brathwaite, Hasan help Patriots prevail in low-scorer

St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots restricted the Guyana Amazon Warriors to 123 for 7, but needed a cameo from Carlos Brathwaite to scrape past the target

The Report by Peter Della Penna in Lauderhill05-Aug-2017
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details1:13

‘Could have gone either way for Patriots’ – Gayle

Carlos Brathwaite channeled his World T20 heroics from Kolkata, producing a superb late cameo to lift St Kitts and Nevis Patriots past Guyana Amazon Warriors by four wickets in a low-scoring affair in Lauderhill. A sluggish pitch in the opening American affair of CPL 2017 produced an attritional contest that saw Patriots chase a target of 124 with an over to spare.Chadwick Walton accounted for nearly half the runs in the Amazon Warriors’ total of 123 for 7, but a decisive double-wicket maiden by Sheldon Cottrell in the final over of Guyana’s innings denied the Warriors momentum. Rayad Emrit took 2 for 3, including a wicket-maiden in his first two overs, to helped keep Patriots in check early in the chase but Brathwaite took control with a top-score of 31 off 19 balls before Jonathan Carter’s unbeaten 29 secured victory.Unpatriotic fieldingPatriots bowlers were framed with hands on heads early and often in the first innings as three catches were shelled, nearly all of them straightforward with Brathwaite central to the plot. In the second over, Walton was on 1 when Samuel Badree induced an aerial drive to Brathwaite on the circle at mid-off but the knee-high chance clanged off the heel of his hands. Brathwaite also had Babar Azam dropped twice off his bowling in the 11th and 13th overs.Wily WaltonCaptain Martin Guptill said on the eve of the tournament that Walton’s sharp cricket brain impressed him. Walton sized up the pitch quickly, recognizing that batting was a grind. After his early life, he set a base with singles before launching in the final few overs. He was on 44 when he drove Badree for a straight six to bring up his 50 off 44 balls and then connected with another terrific inside-out lofted cover drive for six later in the over. His knock at least gave his bowlers something to aim at.Cottrell’s military maidenThe Amazon Warriors entered the final over on 122 for 4 and were eyeing a strong finish after Walton set a strong platform. But Sheldon Cottrell produced a magnificent six deliveries which resulted in three wickets and a stolen bye off the final ball as the only run.The over started with Walton slashing to third man to end his innings. Two balls later, Carter produced a spectacular diving catch on the run to remove Keemo Paul.Remember … me? Brathwaite has struggled at times to fulfill the expectations placed on him in the 18 months since his seminal world-title winning cameo for West Indies. In that chase against England, he thrived towards the final few overs of the innings. Though the task wasn’t as daunting as the 49 off 27 balls against England that day, things were looking shaky for Patriots when he entered at 57 for 5 in the 11th over with 67 needed to win.Brathwaite revived the Patriots with a crucial 31 off 19, getting off the mark with a six off Veerasammy Permaul in the 12th over. He targeted the left-arm spinner twice more in the 14th, clearing midwicket first before going straight for his third six in the space of nine balls to bring the equation down to a run-a-ball before Carter and Mohammad Nabi took over to clinch victory.

West Ham Enquire About "World-Class" £10m Sensation

In a recent episode of ‘The Beautiful Game Podcast’, Nigel James, the father of Reece James, was speaking about the Chelsea Academy. When quizzed on the biggest talent to emerge from the Cobham production line, he emphatically replied that it was “100%” Callum Hudson-Odoi.

This is glimmering praise, especially when considering the extraordinary quality of his son and the pool of players who began their careers as a Stamford Bridge youth.

However, Hudson-Odoi’s Chelsea career has drifted into irrelevancy and stands at a dangerous standstill. As a result, it has been confirmed by The Athletic that the 22-year-old wants to leave his boyhood club this summer and the Blues are prepared to listen to offers.

The winger feels the time has arrived for the next chapter in his career to find a better chance at regular first-team football. One of the clubs interested in this mercurial prodigy is West Ham, which can provide Hudson-Odoi with a massive opportunity to reinvent his stuttering career.

What’s the latest on Hudson-Odoi to West Ham?

According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, the Hammers are part of a Premier League cohort including Fulham, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, and Crystal Palace, that are interested in the Englishman and have made enquiries over what it may take to sign him.

Hudson Odoi only has one year left on his deal at Chelsea, and it's expected that an offer of around £10m would be enough to tempt the West London hierarchy into the sale.

Would Hudson-Odoi be a good signing for West Ham?

Hudson-Odoi has been at Chelsea since U8s level and has made 126 appearances for the senior team in all competitions.

The 2000-born forward was catapulted into the spotlight in the 2018/19 season by former manager Maurizio Sarri, who placed a huge amount of faith in the star. That year, he made his first start for the club in the Community Shield against Manchester City, then three months later he netted his first goal for the club against PAOK in the Europa League.

In April 2019, Hudson-Odoi made history when he assisted Olivier Giroud in the opening goal in a Premier League victory over Brighton to become the youngest player to assist a goal on his first domestic start, aged just 18 years and 146 days.

Bayer Leverkusen forward Callum Hudson-Odoi.

When Frank Lampard replaced Sarri, he described the attacker as “world-class”, and when he signed a new five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, he was projected to become Chelsea’s prize asset.

Since this, Hudson-Odoi has failed to find consistency or be regularly relied upon by either Lampard or Thomas Tuchel, though there is still a feeling that he holds that 'world-class' potential within him.

During his last two seasons in the capital, he only started 21 of 76 Premier League games. The German even resorted to starting the player at right-wing back as he continuously slipped down the pecking order.

The technician also had an underwhelming loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen last year, which has left Mauricio Pochettino uninspired and open to his exit.

Nevertheless, there is a spark within Hudson-Odoi. To appear in the Chelsea team at such a young age is an indication of his potential and the array of applause he has amassed from various greats within the game show he could flourish in a different environment.

He ranks within the best 16% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for progressive passes and carries, and could provide pivotal competition for Said Benrahma next term.

Said Benrahma

The Algerian was the Irons’ top Premier League scorer last season with six goals, but four of them came from the penalty spot, and although he is a wondrously skilful asset, he can be annoyingly anonymous at times.

Indeed, the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg has described the £55k-per-week man as “underwhelming” and “not worthy of the hype.” Considering he once scored 17 times in one season for Brentford, there is an argument to suggest he's fallen short of the mark.

As such, with David Moyes’ men lined up to compete in Europe again in the upcoming campaign, Hudson-Odoi could be set for far more minutes and has the capability to displace Benrahma.

"Important Player" Might Leave Manchester United

Manchester United are willing to listen to offers for midfielder Fred this summer despite the player still being considered as "important" at Old Trafford, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Is Fred leaving Manchester United?

Fred has never quite managed to completely win over Man United supporters since his arrival from Shakthar Donetsk in 2018. Despite his best efforts, the midfielder has struggled to show the consistency and quality that many expected of him following his approximately £52m transfer.

Despite having made 213 appearances for the Red Devils and earning 32 caps for the Brazil national team, Fred has often flattered to deceive.

It is therefore unsurprising that the 30-year-old may be moved on this summer as Erik ten Hag aims to mould this United team in his image off the back of a successful debut season at Old Trafford.

According to transfer expert Romano, Fred could well be on his way out of Man United this summer, despite still being held in high regard at the club.

Romano said: "Fred is still considered as an important player by Man United but the reality is that they are open to listening to proposals and negotiating for Fred. So, Fred could be on the move this summer. This is a concrete possibility."

The Italian also lists fellow midfielder Donny van de Beek as a potential summer outgoing, with the Dutchman desperate for more regular minutes, meaning that United may have to reinforce the centre of the pitch this summer.

Mason Mount is on his way to Old Trafford and will be seen as a good upgrade on some of the current midfield options, but more numbers may be required ahead of a season which includes Champions League football.

Fred has been linked with a potential move to Fulham, but also reportedly has other offers on the table. Having spent so highly on the expected arrival of Mount, this could be an opportunity for United to reclaim some of their expenses.

Which midfielders could replace Fred?

One man that Ten Hag and his squad already know intimately is Marcel Sabitzer, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Old Trafford from Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old featured 18 times for United last term, netting on three occasions, and the Red Devils are reportedly keeping their options open despite Bayern's willingness to sell the Austrian this summer.

There have been some links to Brighton's Moises Caicedo and Southampton's Romeo Lavia too, although respective moves to Chelsea and Liverpool look more likely at this stage.

United's takeover uncertainty means that Ten Hag may be limited in what he can spend, certainly in the opening part of the window, and with a new goalkeeper and centre-forward potentially taking priority, the Red Devils may want to keep Fred around after all.
