Palmeiras define novo presidente do Conselho Deliberativo nesta segunda-feira

Liberato Cacace reveals how Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney convinced him to join Wrexham

Liberato Cacace has revealed he snubbed interest from other clubs in Italy in order to move to Wrexham after being impressed by the club's documentary.

Cacace swapped Serie A side Empoli for Wrexham this summer after arriving on a three-year deal. The transfer has been seen as something of a coup by the Welsh side and is part of a big-spending summer following promotion to the Championship for the 2025-26 season.

The left-back has penned a three-year deal with Wrexham despite having offers from elsewhere. Cacace has spoken about his move, revealing how much he loved the club's 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary and how that played a big role in his decision to head to the side co-owned by Hollywood superstars Reynolds and McElhenney.

WHAT CACECE SAID

He told BBC Sport Wales: "It's a great doco, and I've watched all the seasons. There was interest in Italy, but for me, I'm a big football fan as well. I watch a lot of football and I've always watched English football, from the Premier League to the Championship as well so I know the level I'm heading into. It was always a big dream of mine to play in the UK. Obviously Wrexham having so much publicity in the media as well you could see what the club was like. It's a very exciting project and I'm also very excited to start the season as well."

Cacere also revealed how Wrexham staff visited his father's restaurant during their pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia while he was in Wales tying up his transfer.

He added: "Yeah, it was a crazy circumstance, a weird coincidence that they were over in my home country and I was here in Wrexham for the first few days. But it was a great touch from the staff and from the manager, to go over and say hello to Mum and Dad. I think it was a really good touch from them."

Man Utd dealt huge blow in bid to sell Jadon Sancho as Juventus advance on deal to sign winger Francisco Conceicao

Juventus are reportedly on the verge of reaching an agreement with FC Porto to sign Francisco Conceicao on a permanent basis, which has cast doubt over Manchester United star Jadon Sancho's switch to the Allianz Stadium. The 21-year-old impressed Juventus’ hierarchy during his loan spell and his familiarity with the squad have prompted the Serie A giants to prioritise his acquisition instead of Sancho's.

According to the Italians are in advanced talks with Porto to sign Conceicao, and all parties are moving positively towards finalising the deal. Moreover, claimed that although Everton are ready to activate Conceicao's €30 million (£26m/$35m) the player is not keen on a move to Merseyside and "only wants Juventus."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

However, conflicting reports have emerged from Italy suggesting that Juventus may not be forced to choose between the two. According to while Conceicao is closer to a deal, the club is still monitoring Sancho’s situation at United and could move for both players, depending on outgoing transfers and financial flexibility. Nico Gonzalez is expected to receive a substantial offer from the Saudi Pro League, which would free up both space in the squad and funds on the wage bill. And with his departure on the cards, Juventus would have more flexibility to accommodate another high-profile arrival, with Sancho fitting the bill. To further bolster their spending power, Juventus are also engaged in discussions with Sporting CP over the possible sale of midfielder Alberto Costa. The transfer could bring in additional funds to fuel Juventus’ recruitment drive, particularly in their pursuit of Sancho.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Sancho’s situation at Old Trafford has reached a tense standstill. The winger, who joined Manchester United in 2021 for £74m ($99m) from Borussia Dortmund, has one year left on his contract. He is reportedly demanding a severance package worth at least €5m (£4m/$6m) to terminate the deal early and enable a move elsewhere. However, Sancho is said to be open to a significant salary reduction in order to facilitate the transfer. Reports suggest he is ready to lower his annual income to around £7m ($9m), approximately £180,000-per-week, a drop of over £120,0000-per-week. Juventus, for their part, have tabled an offer of £5m plus performance-based bonuses, totalling just over £130,000 per week. While the gap is closing, it remains to be seen whether both parties can reach an agreement that satisfies all financial considerations.

    WHAT NEXT?

In terms of transfer fee, Juventus have reportedly proposed an initial payment of €25m (£21m/$29m) with further bonuses, which falls short of United’s valuation. The Premier League side is nearing the financial ceiling of their summer transfer budget, having spent heavily on the acquisition of Matheus Cunha and with Bryan Mbeumo expected to follow. Offloading Sancho could provide much-needed relief to pursue further additions.

Arsenal reach final agreement over transfer for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres as clubs settle on fee worth a potential €73.5m

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP. The news comes just days after the Swede refused to report for pre-season with the Portuguese side. Mikel Arteta has prioritised the 27-year-old as his new No. 9 and a five-year contract is ready, with The Athletic suggesting the deal is worth €73.5 million (£63.4m/$86m).

Arsenal’s offer is said to be worth €63.5 million (£54.8m/$74.2m) in fixed fees plus €10 million (£8.6m/$11.7m) in add-ons, which is just over the €70m release arrangement that Gyokeres believed he had in place with Sporting before they reportedly went back on their gentleman's agreement. The striker has skipped the start of pre-season training in Portugal amid frustration over stalled talks.

Gyokeres emerged as Arsenal’s top target to lead the line this season after a lack of consistency in the centre-forward role at the Emirates. Despite interest from other clubs, he has made it clear he only wants to join Arsenal. Arteta views him as the final piece in an already impressive summer rebuild for the Gunners.

DID YOU KNOW?

Arsenal have already signed Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with Noni Madueke also set to arrive soon. Gyokeres is expected to sign a five-year deal for a reported fee of €73.5m, making him the club’s most expensive signing of the window.

Arsenal aim to finalise the transfer within the week to allow Gyokeres to link up with the squad before the start of their United States pre-season tour. WHAT NEXT FOR PSG?

While PSG will hope to have their stadium situation resolved quickly, their first team will be in action at the Club World Cup this month. The treble winners face Atletico Madrid, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders in Group B.

Newcastle star has just made himself as undroppable as Bruno for Wembley

Newcastle United rounded off their up-and-down March in the Premier League with a slim 1-0 away win at West Ham United, with the month properly finished off now with an EFL Cup final at Wembley versus Liverpool.

The Magpies could well have downed their tools to focus solely on that shot at silverware, but Eddie Howe’s Toon were professional when coming up against Graham Potter’s hosts, with this narrow victory on their travels leaving them just two points shy of the top four in the division.

Bruno Guimaraes was the difference-maker between the two sides at the London Stadium, as the Brazilian’s strike early into the second half clinched all three points, continuing his fine season in the middle of the park.

Bruno Guimaraes' performance in numbers

The Newcastle captain will hope he can have a similar starring role against Arne Slot’s Reds, with the standout Toon number 39 putting in a sterling overall performance against the Hammers.

Not only did Guimaraes score the winner but he ended up winning four duels as a tough battler, on top of tallying up one key pass.

His main moment in the spotlight came about when he connected with a fine Harvey Barnes delivery to hand his side a slender win.

Barnes’ cross – which was hailed as “top quality” by Howe post-match – was just waiting to be put away, with the Brazilian now up to 11 goal contributions this season in all competitions off the back of this winning effort.

He could well have another memorable moment to come at Wembley, but whilst the 27-year-old did put in another stellar effort in the heart of midfield, one of his teammates arguably put in an even better individual display to ensure he remains in Howe’s XI this coming Sunday.

The 8/10 Newcastle star who is now undroppable

Whilst Anthony Gordon will miss the showdown with Liverpool owing to a suspension, it is very unlikely that Sandro Tonali will be sitting out this chance at silverware based on his showing against West Ham.

The Italian actually bettered Guimaraes when it comes to the number of duels won over the course of the 90 minutes.

The ex-AC Milan man finishing the clash having won a hefty nine duels, with journalist Josh Bunting noting how the 24-year-old was “dominating” the middle areas.

Tonali also tallied up four tackles as a combative presence alongside Guimaraes, all whilst also showing off his ability to burst forward confidently with 100% of his dribbles on the night completed.

Chronicle Live journalist Lee Ryder would, therefore, hand out a high 8/10 rating to the Magpies number eight after the game, highlighting all of the “crunch” tackles he put in to ensure his team were victorious on the road.

Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota against Sandro Tonali

Howe will hope Tonali can be this dogged and brave on the big stage at Wembley, with Liverpool stunted somewhat if their central midfielders aren’t allowed to work their full magic.

Guimaraes stated after the determined Premier League win that his team can beat anyone when they’re at their best, with that mentality very much put to the test in the one-off EFL Cup final to come.

If Tonali and his Brazilian counterpart can perform to the levels they managed on Monday night, a rare trophy might be heading to Tyneside, as the Toon faithful descending on Wembley pray for another top day out in the capital.

Forget Tuanzebe: McKenna can axe Godfrey by unleashing Ipswich "warrior"

Ipswich Town’s sole focus going forward rests on Premier League survival, having now exited the FA Cup at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

The FA Cup was never a top priority anyway, but there will still be some comfort taken from the fact Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest could only knock out the Tractor Boys via a penalty shoot-out, instead of the hosts dishing out a thumping.

Whilst there are some positives to hang onto from the dramatic defeat, the ever-growing injury list at Ipswich has only increased after Monday night’s loss, with Axel Tuanzebe now annoyingly sidelined.

The latest on Ipswich's injury issues

Indeed, off the back of the Cup defeat, Ipswich now have four injury concerns heading back into the bread and butter of the Premier League, with Sammie Szmodics and Conor Chaplin both not fit enough to feature against Forest, whilst Tuanzebe and Cameron Burgess had to come off at half-time with concerns of their own.

The ex-Manchester United man now has a hamstring issue that leaves Ipswich a little light in the right-back spot moving forward, considering Championship regular defender Harry Clarke is now out on loan with Sheffield United as an alternative face in this troubled position.

McKenna won’t exactly be enthused to throw Ben Godfrey into this area of the pitch either, considering both of Godfrey’s league run-outs since joining has seen his loan side lose 6-0 and 4-1, with the attackers facing off against the ex-Everton man loving life subsequently.

Ben Johnson is another figure that could come in as a utility option, but the former West Ham United face won himself an assist in the Forest clash playing down the right wing, meaning McKenna might well fancy him more as a presence joining in with attacks over strictly defending.

Therefore, to find a fresh option in the right-back area, the Ipswich boss could be prepared to start this dependable face here, knowing he will put in determined performances.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

The Ipswich "warrior" who can solve Tuanzebe blow

Ipswich’s strengths this season haven’t always centred on defensively resilient displays, considering the Suffolk underdogs have leaked a high 57 strikes in the league.

But, regardless of this growing amount of goals, Dara O’Shea has looked composed and competent for the most part at the back, especially when the usual centre-back body was chucked into the team away at Forest down the right.

Looking at the table above, O’Shea ensured Ipswich remained strong at the back to take Espirito Santo’s hosts the distance with five duels won in total, alongside six clearances being registered.

But, his composure on the ball – away from his “warrior”-like presence at the back – as he’s been praised for in the past by Valerien Ismael – lends itself well to this position on the right flank, with one successful dribble even amassed on top of his 20 accurate passes.

Yet, if the Irishman was to come in and just be a staunch option alongside his fellow defenders, keeping Johnson on the right wing would still be able to gift Ipswich an expansive presence here, with an equally daring Jaden Philogene-Bidace also at McKenna’s disposal for their next league test versus Crystal Palace after being cup-tied.

Whatever personnel he does select for this tough away trip to the Eagles, McKenna will hope a lot of fight and grit is on display, as time starts to gradually slip away from the Tractor Boys in their bid to stay up.

Aston Villa hold concrete interest in "world-class" £50m Duran replacement

Aston Villa now hold concrete interest in signing a “world-class” striker to replace Jhon Duran this summer, with a deal possible for a fee of around £50m, but there could be competition from Arsenal, according to a report.

Aston Villa pursuing striker to replace Duran

Duran moved to Al-Nassr for £65m in the latter stages of the January transfer window, and the 21-year-old has made a solid start to life in Saudi Arabia, scoring four goals in as many league games.

While the big-money move will ease some of Villa’s PSR concerns, the striker’s departure leaves Unai Emery a little light on options in attack, and potential replacements are now being assessed ahead of the summer transfer window.

Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui is one of the options, with the Italian in prolific form in the Serie A this season, while the Villans are also believed to be stepping up their pursuit of FC Porto’s Samu Omorodion Aghehowa, who is outscoring Ollie Watkins.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Aston Villa also hold concrete interest in signing Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is now looking increasingly likely to leave the Italian club at the end of the season.

Talks over a new deal are not progressing, which means Vlahovic could seek a move elsewhere, and there is unlikely to be a lack of suitors, with Arsenal also keen, given that manager Mikel Arteta holds him in particularly high regard.

Juventus' DusanVlahovicshoots

The Villans are also seriously considering an approach for the striker, who would be brought in as a replacement for Duran, although they are yet to lodge any formal enquiries.

Should the Premier League side ultimately decide to make a bid for the Juventus man, there is a feeling £50m would be enough to get a deal done.

"World-class" Vlahovic could be ideal Duran replacement

Although Watkins always remained the first-choice option, the departure of Duran was a big loss, given the impact the Colombian made from the bench, but there are plenty of signs Vlahovic could be a suitable replacement.

Given his age, the 25-year-old has more experience at the top level than Duran, scoring six goals in 16 Champions League appearances, while he also has a very respectable record of 86 goals and 14 assists in 193 Serie A outings, including nine this term.

Serie A journalist Siavoush Fallahi has lauded the former Fiorentina man as “world-class” in the past, and his goal record indicates he could be more than capable of pushing for Watkins’ starting spot.

That said, there are signs the aforementioned Retegui could be an even better signing, given that the two strikers are the same age, and the Atalanta marksman has outscored Vlahovic considerably this season, bagging 21 Serie A goals.

Mount struck twice as United beat Athletic Club Stunning strike from near halfway rounded off victoryAmorim praised Mount's hard workFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Mount struck twice to secure a resounding 4-1 victory on the night against Bilbao, after a 3-0 first leg win, with his manager crediting all the hard work the 26-year-old has put in this season, including numerous ice baths and a focus on his diet. Both goals showed class but his second was something special, with shades of David Beckham as Mount struck from almost the half-way line.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Mount has struggled massively with injury at Old Trafford since joining from Chelsea in 2023, making just 42 appearances in almost two seasons. Last night's brace saw the midfielder double his goal tally for the Red Devils, which Amorim will hope is a sign of things to come.

WHAT AMORIM SAID

Amorim said: "I'm so happy for him. He is such a player. He works really hard, he has quality.

"When you see that kind of guy like Mason working hard every day, eating well, having ice baths, when you have this kind of player you just want to help him. He is perfect for this position as he can be a midfielder, but also runs like a winger so I'm really happy for him.

"When you have a full squad you can think about the game. Sometimes we're surviving with people in different positions, but with more options you can change the game and push forwards and these things can help you win games."
