Let it be true: Wednesday fans want Nuhiu gone

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield Wednesday fans on Twitter are desperate for the transfer report linking Atdhe Nuhiu with a move to Macedonian champions KF Shkendija to be true.

The striker hasn’t impressed during his stint playing for the Steel City club, and many supporters want to see the back of him after a poor season for the Owls.

The Kosovan appeared in 34 games for Steve Bruce’s side last campaign, but he scored just four goals and set up a further two.

Returns like that have seen Wednesdayites turn on him, and on social media they have been showing their excitement about his potential departure.

Bruce got the Owls playing some great football after his appointment in February and they will certainly be targeting a top-six finish next term. However, Nuhiu’s recent form has shown that he isn’t good enough to lead the line for a playoff contending side.

West Ham line up ideal Isaac Hayden bid after Andre Gomes setback

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United have turned their attention to Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden after missing out on Barcelona’s Andre Gomes, per ClaretandHugh.

What’s the word?

The Hammers have seemingly missed out on the signing of the Portugal international, who spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Everton.

He prefers the possibility of a permanent move to Merseyside, per The Guardian, and the Irons appear to be making contingency plans in case they do miss out.

And Hayden has emerged as a target; the Newcastle midfielder has expressed his desire to leave St James’ Park for personal reasons, per the Daily Telegraph, with a move south a priority.

The 24-year-old, ClaretandHugh claim, would cost around £15m should the Magpies cash in.

Director of Football Mario Husillos is now set to negotiate the deal as manager Manuel Pellegrini bids to secure midfield reinforcements this summer.

Stumbled into a better deal

Hayden is a better option than Gomes.

The Magpies star, per WhoScored, averages 2.9 tackles per game in the Premier League, along with 1.6 interceptions and 1.1 clearances. He also has 0.9 key passes per game and is dribbled past just 0.7 times per game.

Gomes, by comparison, averages 1.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 0.7 clearances. He boasts a mere 0.2 key passes and is dribbled past 1.7 times per game.

In every single area, Hayden is a better option, despite the pedigree offered by a Barcelona player.

It remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed but the 24-year-old is the best signing the Hammers could make; they may well have stumbled onto the best deal possible this summer.

Southampton fans of Twitter on nearly 20,000 Season Ticket sales

[ad_pod ]

Southampton fans of Twitter have been excitedly commenting after it was revealed that the club have already sold more season tickets for 2019/20 than the whole of the last campaign.

The Saints have flogged nearly 20,000 despite the tickets only being on general sale for a couple of days under a new pricing structure that was introduced this summer.

Two-thirds of season-ticket holders have seen their cost reduce, whilst the other third have had theirs frozen and under-11s will be able to visit every league game at St Mary’s in 2019/2020 for a mere £19.

There is a renewed sense of optimism on the south coast in spite of two consecutive terms battling relegation in the Premier League with lofty ambitions under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Southampton fans may love Ralph Hasenhuttl but do the owners? Check out the video below…

And members of the Saints army, as well as being delighted about the positivity of the news and the prices involved, have put the sharp increase in sales down to the modern Austrian gaffer.

Newcastle: Landing desired Rondon deal should be enough to secure Ayoze Perez

How good has Salomon Rondon been this season? Without the big Venezuelan there are arguments to suggest that the Geordies wouldn’t be in the Premier League for next season and Ayoze Perez certainly wouldn’t have hit the form he has.

The issue with Rondon is that the big West Brom man is only on-loan at Newcastle, and Rafa Benitez hasn’t been given the news he wants that the 29-year-old striker will be signed permanently. However, Benitez is desperate (as per the Daily Star) for Rondon to be signed and claims that signing the target-man is vital for the Magpies to progress.

Should West Bromwich Albion not come up from the Championship via the play-offs then they’ll find it even harder to hold onto Rondon, and the striker, who they signed for £15.3 million, fee via Transfermarkt, would surely be off. The other issue here is the future of another Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez, and should Rondon stay put Rafa Benitez could kill two birds with one stone.

Ayoze Perez’s 12-goal haul this season in the Premier League has seen the 25-year-old’s stock rise to levels that it’s never been at before. The Spaniard has claimed recently that he could be set to look for a new challenge soon, and The Northern Echo is talking of interest from Napoli. If the Spaniard could see some ambition at St. James’ Park then he may be tempted to stay.

Indeed, the man Alan Pardew signed from Tenerife back in 2014 claimed towards the back end of April (quotes sourced by the Chronicle) that now may be the time to leave and the same outlet have recently reported that the club could face a battle to keep him.

Still, should Rafa Benitez get a new contract, Salomon Rondon be signed permanently and cash get spent then Ayoze Perez would be an idiot to leave the club. His future is something the Magpies are worried about considering how incredible the ex-Tenerife man has been whilst partnering up with Rondon and Miguel Almiron, and should that trio be kept together then the club could well be set to battle for 7th next season.

Georginio Wijnaldum takes to Instagram to thank Anfield for its incredible support

Liverpool finished with 97 points and only lost one game all season but they just could not quite do enough to prevent Manchester City from collecting their fourth title in seven years.

The midfielder has had a brilliant season but his peak moment arrived when he came off the bench to score two vital goals in the second-leg of the Champions League semi-final victory over Barcelona at Anfield.

This season Wijnaldum has scored five times and assisted once.

Signed from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016 for £25m, the 28-year-old was playing as an attacking midfielder but Jurgen Klopp moved him back into central midfield to play more of a box-to-box role and the change has transformed Wijnaldum into the player we see today.

He does not start every game but is considered a massively important part of the team and usually plays in the big games for Liverpool.

Not only will the Netherlands international want to see the Reds faithful bring their energy to Madrid, the supporters will want to see their midfield general in full flow.

With more than two weeks to go until the final Wijnaldum is already making an effort to galvanise the supporters through social media, and he will be hoping his post pays off in Spain.

Newcastle fans react to Rafa Benitez news

[ad_pod ]

Rafa Benitez’s long drawn out contract negotiations with Newcastle United’s board seem like they are finally about to reach a positive conclusion.

In the Spaniard’s latest press-conference, he confirmed that talks were progressing positively and that a statement would be made when there is more information available.

This suggests Mike Ashley has finally realised the importance of keeping Benitez and could well be giving him the tools to make Newcastle competitive rather than merely aiming to survive every season.

The 59-year-old has previously hinted that he wants a sizeable budget to work with after years of scraping the barrel with loan signings and low-cost deals.

Benitez’s comments would suggest he has at least been given assurances that he will be given greater license to spend in the transfer market this summer.

If the ex-Real Madrid manager were to sign a contract, the Newcastle fan base and squad would undoubtedly be overjoyed.

One Newcastle fan said “Brilliant news” while another added “Please let this be true.”

However, not every single fan is convinced by the latest reports…

Middlesbrough: Angry fans blame Pulis and players, but all united in demand for changes

Middlesbrough flopped in their must-win game against Bristol City at the Riverside last night, going down 1-0 to extend their losing run to five games, and fans were not happy.

While many vented their anger on social media towards manager Tony Pulis, others were pointing the finger at their goal-shy players.

Sky Sports reporter, Keith Downie, posted a tweet having asked Pulis about his future, to which the manager was non-commital, claiming the club will make that decision.

Pulis will never be a tactician that pleases all football fans, his direct approach is not pretty, but can be effective, but when it is neither, fans will demand a change.

That said, the players need to take a large portion of the blame.

Boro’ had 23 attempts at goal last night, seven of which were on target. A failure to score from that amount of chances is not the fault of the manager.

Of course, it is the manager that picks the team and effects change during a game, so in that respect, it is fair that the blame is shared between them.

Here are some of the reactions from fans:

So as you can see, blame is mixed, but they are all united in their frustration and anger at the current run, and who can blame them?

What do you think if Boro’s season imploding? Who is to blame, the manager, or the players? You tell us and join the conversation…

Leeds fans are mixed when it comes to Adam Forshaw

[ad_pod ]

Adam Forshaw has missed Leeds United’s last five Championship matches.

Indeed, the midfielder has been on the sidelines since picking up a knee problem during the 3-1 defeat to Norwich City at the start of last month.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa admitted during his press conference on Thursday afternoon that Forshaw’s recovery was going slower than expected.

However, the head coach expects to have the 27-year-old available soon.

The Leeds fans have been on social media reacting to the injury update and it would be fair to say that the majority are split when it comes to Forshaw.

Indeed, whilst a number cannot wait to have the 5ft 7in ace available once again, others are not too bothered that he is currently on the sidelines.

Forshaw has made 23 Championship appearances for the Whites this season. A selection of the Twitter reaction from Leeds fans regarding Forshaw’s latest injury blow can be seen below:

Opinion: BATE defeat shows Emery is playing a dangerous game with his Arsenal selection

Arsenal fell to a first-leg defeat in their round of 32 Europa League tie with BATE Borisov after they lost 1-0 at the Borisov Arena last Thursday.

Unai Emery will be confident his side can get the job done in the return leg — and has said as much (via Football.London) — but the recent humiliation that took place in Belarus remains something that could have so easily been avoidable had Mesut Ozil played.

Is this Arsenal team good enough to beat an outfit such as BATE without a player of Ozil’s ability on the pitch? Of course, even if Thursday’s showing suggests otherwise. It was just a bad day in the office which can happen to any team and at any point in a season.

However, having barely used Ozil of late, Emery had no valid reason to not give the German some minutes in that defeat with it having been the perfect opportunity for him to get time on the pitch and build a bit of momentum. Doing so could have completely changed the outcome.

It is hard to imagine Ozil with his astute playmaking skills not being able to carve open that BATE backline. It probably would have been enough for Arsenal to walk away with something be it the win or an away goal.

What is done is done but, going forward, Emery would be wise not to dismiss Ozil so easily. He is too much of a good player to be discarded like the way he has been with no suitable alternative anywhere in sight.
