Swansea City are interested in a summer move for Carlos Mendes Gomes this summer, according to reports…

What’s the word?

That’s the word according to Football League World, who claim that Steve Cooper’s side have joined the likes of Hull City, Peterborough United, Sunderland, Barnsley, Cardiff City, Luton Town and Huddersfield Town in the race for the Morecambe forward.

Andre Ayew replacement

With Swansea star Andre Ayew – who has scored 16 goals and registered four assists over his 42 Championship appearances so far this season –  potentially on his way out of the Liberty Stadium at the end of his contract this summer if the club do not achieve promotion to the Premier League – the Swans could be in need of finding a suitable replacement for the 31-year-old in the summer market.

However, even if Swansea do manage to keep hold of Ayew this summer, it could easily be argued that Cooper is in need of greater depth in his attacking arsenal, as, at present, aside from the Ghana international, the 41-year-old only has the option of Liam Cullen as an out and out centre-forward.

This is where Mendes Gomes comes in, with the former Atletico Madrid youth player having highly impressed over his 42 League Two appearances for Morecambe this season, bagging 15 goals and providing two assists for Derek Adams’ side – with the manager dubbing the starlet as a “fantastic” talent.

And, while the forward may not be enough alone to provide Cooper with sufficient attacking depth should the Welsh side indeed go on to achieve promotion via the Championship play-offs, he would certainly be a fine additional option for the Swans.

Furthermore, while the Spaniard is still just 22-years-old, he has plenty of time left to develop as a footballer, and, with the amount of potential his returns for Morecambe this season are evidence of, he could well go on to prove Ayew’s eventual successor as Swansea’s main attacking threat.

قد يكون محمد صلاح لاعبًا عالميًا على أرض الملعب، وفقًا لما قاله مساعد مدرب منتخب مصر ضياء السيد، لكنه واجه الخسارة في نهائي كأس الأمم الأفريقية يوم الأحد أمام السنغال تمامًا مثل “الشخص العادي”.

هُزم الفراعنة بنتيجة 4-2 بركلات الترجيح بعد التعادل 0-0 في استاد أولمبي ياوندي أمس، وكان صلاح يشاهد زميله في ليفربول ساديو ماني وهو يسجل ركلة الترجيح الفائزة لمنتخب بلاده.

وبدا محمد صلاح في حالة حزن شديد بعد مباراة الأمس، خاصة إنه النهائي الإفريقي الثاني الذي يخسره رفقة الفراعنة بعد نسخة الجابون 2017.

وقال ضياء السيد لشبكة “جول” العالمية: “محمد صلاح لاعب رائع من الطراز العالمي، ولكن موقفه هو موقف شخص عادي (بعد الهزيمة)، عندما تخسر تشعر بالهزيمة، وهذا ما شعرنا به يوم الأحد”.

Southampton take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in the FA Cup on Saturday and Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl should consider axing Ryan Bertrand for the game.

The 31-year-old has disappointed with his performances this season, averaging a poor 6.42 WhoScored average match rating for his performances in the Premier League.

Other than in the 2-0 win against Sheffield United, his recent performances have been nothing short of terrible, with the former Chelsea man failing to earn a rating of over 6.6/10 in eight of his last nine Premier League appearances.

The experienced defender is yet to sign a new deal with the club amid reported interest from Arsenal, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, which makes you question his commitment to Hasenhuttl’s side at the moment.

Bertrand has appeared in 27 of Southampton’s 29 top-flight fixtures so far this season, so he is firmly first choice left-back under Hasenhuttl despite his less than impressive form.

This is arguably due to a lack of natural back-up options to the Englishman, with Sam McQueen still sidelined through injury, whilst Jake Vokins was inexplicably sent on loan to Sunderland in the winter transfer window without a back-up being brought in.

However, Mohammed Salisu featured at left-back for Southampton’s 5-2 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month and, whilst he was run ragged by Riyad Mahrez, he can be a solid option in that position should Hasenhuttl decide to finally drop Bertrand against Bournemouth at the weekend.

Bertrand reportedly earns £70,000 per week at Southampton which seemed excessive for someone who has been one of Hasenhuttl’s poorest performers this season so far, which may make things difficult for both parties when it comes to negotiating a renewal.

Therefore, considering the 31-year-old might not even be with Southampton next season, Hasenhuttl should start preparing for life without him in his team, which means that Salisu or another Saints youngster should start at left-back for the game on Saturday.

Steve Madeley has revealed that questions have been raised at West Bromwich Albion over Sam Allardyce’s suitability to lead the team in the Championship.

As it stands, the Baggies look as though they will playing in the second tier next term. With just 10 games left to play, they are eight points adrift from safety (Sky Sports).

Writing for The Athletic, Madeley has revealed there have been “privately raised questions” at The Hawthorns as some people are not sure whether Allardyce can do the job required in the Championship.

Allardyce does have a track record of getting promoted to the top tier – he achieved the feat with both Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United. However, both of those successes came a considerable while ago – they now seem to be nothing but a distant memory.

The Championship has changed in recent times. Leeds United have played fantastic football this term after earning promotion last year, while Scott Parker’s Fulham have given themselves a shot at survival thanks to an attractive style. With all due respect to Allardyce, his pragmatic philosophy is somewhat outdated, and at 66 he is unlikely to change now. There are likely better options for the Baggies to pursue if they want to return to the elite as quickly as possible.

Glasgow Rangers may have just received a huge transfer boost in their pursuit of Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph if recent reports are to be believed.

According to Football Insider, Wigan have rejected a bid from Barnsley for the 19-year-old, who has caught the eye of Rangers, as Steven Gerrard seeks to bolster his firepower in front of goal.

Alfredo Morelos has been doing a decent job as Gerrard’s first choice but faces stiff competition from Jermain Defoe, Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe, and bringing in the youngster could push Greg Stewart out the Ibrox door.

With Joseph’s contract set to expire this summer, Rangers are hopeful they can take advantage of the situation by lining up a Bosman move for the Latics striker, who has been one of the few bright sparks in what has been a rather difficult campaign for the club.

The highly-rated teenager has made 14 appearances across all competitions this season and has five goals to show for his 11 starts, with the League One strugglers currently lying second from bottom of the table.

Joseph has become a regular starter in the EFL and it’s no surprise his form has caught the attention of a number of clubs. The Mirror revealed Rangers face a fierce battle to sign the Wigan teenage starlet amid interest from Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Morelos’ importance to Gerrard’s side is unquestionable, but Stewart has served his purpose, and Ross Wilson needs to find a talented young and hungry player to help to rejuvenate an ageing squad. It’s worth pointing out Rangers have one of the oldest squads in the Scottish Premiership. And Joseph is exactly that.

After it was revealed that Wigan’s financial struggles could see him leave on the cheap, Joseph – who has been heavily linked to north London – could be the man to complete a dream attack for Gerrard with an eye on the future.

Whilst Ianis Hagi is similarly right-footed and plays on the wings, the Scotland U19 front man is far more of a potent threat in front of goal. Per WhoScored, the Wigan forward currently averages 2.2 shots per match which is more than Hagi himself (1.7), and he also boasts an impressive 1.3 successful dribbles per game as well.

Wigan manager Leam Richardson heaped praise on his young charge, insisting: “Kyle is on top of the world at the moment. The only disappointment for him and for us is that it wasn’t in front of 30,000 people here.

“He’ll remember that moment for the rest of his life. He’s been getting plaudits for a while now and as long as he keeps grounded and keeps working hard through the week like he does, he’ll have a very good career.”

Hagi on the other hand has managed 1.7 key passes per game, picking up more assists than Joseph (10). Having them both in the same side and playing off Ryan Kent on the left-hand side of the pitch could give Gerrard even more firepower to feed off, and add to their excellent goal record in the future.
