Spurs fans react to transfer report on Serhou Guirassy

It feels as if Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to just about every Ligue 1 player since football was put under lockdown, and it hasn’t stopped yet as new reports have emerged over a different target. This time it is Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy who is mooted with a move to Spurs, and fans have been reacting to the fresh news on Twitter.According to Le 10 Sport, several Premier League teams are chasing the 24-year-old after a relatively goal-laden campaign with the relegated Ligue 1 outfit.Along with Spurs, London rivals Chelsea and West Ham are also said to hold interest in the centre-forward – he could cost between €15m (£13m) and €20m (£17.4m).Guirassy has found the net nine times from 24 appearances this campaign, including a brace against champions Paris Saint-Germain and further strikes versus Lille and Marseille.

Leeds fans discuss Kyle Bartley on Twitter

Leeds United fans have been embroiled in a heated discussion on Twitter this week after one account asked whether or not they would take centre-back Kyle Bartley back should he become available this summer.

The Whites are set to lose loan star Ben White and out-of-contract Gaetano Berardi in the coming months, so Marcelo Bielsa is certainly going to need a central defensive addition ahead of the new season.

But many are torn by the former Swansea City loanee with him now plying his trade at title rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The 28-year-old has been a regular feature under Slaven Bilic this campaign, starting 32 league games whilst averaging 4.7 clearances, 1.4 tackles and 50.2 passes per match, via WhoScored.

Bartley was at Elland Road for the season before Marcelo Bielsa joined the club and some fans believe he’d be a better option than skipper Liam Cooper whilst others have questioned his Premier League potential.

Arsenal: Club will listen to offers for Rob Holding, Sokratis and maybe Shkodran Mustafi says David Ornstein

Arsenal will listen to offers for Rob Holding, Sokratis and maybe Shkodran Mustafi as David Ornstein said on The Ornstein and Chapman Podcast (via LT Arsenal’s Twitter page).

Indeed, the north London club may be looking for a new central defender or two in the upcoming summer transfer window, which will also see William Saliba return from his loan spell at Saint-Etienne and Pablo Mari possibly signed on a permanent basis from Flamengo.

There have been rumours in the past that the Gunners would like to sign RB Leipzig central defender Dayot Upamecano, with German publication Bild reporting that a bid worth 60 million euros was rejected last summer.

If Mikel Arteta were to return with another offer this summer, then the Gunners may have to consider just how many centre-backs they would have on their books.

With David Luiz being the Spanish manager’s most used defender so far this season, complemented with the 18 appearances Calum Chambers made in all competitions this campaign before his rather unfortunate cruciate ligament rupture injury before the turn of the year, there only leaves a few CB’s that AFC could possibly get rid of.

In steps Holding, Sokratis and Mustafi. If Upamecano joins alongside Saliba and Mari, adding to that Luiz, Chambers and possibly Konstantinos Mavropanos, who will surely be looking to finally breakthrough into the first-team set-up on a more regular basis, the Emirates faithful will arguably be covered enough in that position on the pitch for next term.

As a consequence, this may mean that one of if not all of the three central defenders mentioned by Ornstein may have to be sacrificed by the Emirates faithful.

Celtic fans react to Jordon Ibe update

Celtic fans have been discussing a reported transfer target this week after a fresh update emerged.

It’s believed that the Scottish Premiership champions are keen on AFC Bournemouth winger Jordon Ibe this summer with the player willing to take a pay cut to make the switch north.

And this week fuel has been added to the fire after it was confirmed by manager Eddie Howe that the Cherries wouldn’t be offering the former Liverpool ace a new contract, leaving him free to depart the club.

It’s led to supporters discussing the potential of seeing Ibe at Parkhead.

Some are all for it with bold claims that he’s a better option than Jonny Hayes…

Whilst there are plenty of fans against the potential move.

The 24-year-old has really been an anonymous figure under Howe this campaign, playing just 227 minutes in all competitions, via Transfermarkt.

Only real Celtic fans will get 100% on the Ultimate Hoops quiz. Test your knowledge below…

In fact, he’s hardly set the ground alight ever since a club-record £15m move from Anfield in 2016 – he’s managed to provide only five goals and nine assists from 92 appearances.

So no wonder that some are advising the club to steer well clear of the wide man.

There were even a few members of the Hoops faithful comparing him to Scott Sinclair, who joined Celtic in similar circumstances before going on to prove himself at Parkhead.

It remains to be seen if Neil Lennon holds any genuine interest in the young attacker, but evidently, his arrival would divide opinion in Glasgow.

Player Zone: Javier Manquillo will be vital for Newcastle against Aston Villa

Newcastle United could effectively confirm their safety in the Premier League for another season if they can manage to collect all three points versus Aston Villa tomorrow.

A convincing 3-0 win against Chris Wilder’s European-chasing Sheffield United on Sunday has put the Tyneside club on 38 points in the league table with eight games still to play, and another win against lowly Villa would put them on 41 and all but guarantee their safety.

On the other hand, Dean Smith’s team lay in 19th place in the league on 26 points and arguably need the win more, but that should not distract Steve Bruce’s side from going in for the kill.

One player who could be vital if they are to win at St James’ Park is Javier Manquillo. The right-back is likely to be responsible for making sure that Jack Grealish does not influence the game, as Villa’s captain has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 28 matches in the top flight, with 18 of those coming from the left-wing, according to Transfermarkt.

Having played on the left against Chelsea as well, it is likely that Manquillo will be up against the 24-year old, and this could be a key battle in the match at St James’ Park.

There is no doubt that Manquillo will have to be on the top of his game, but the Spaniard has won 3.9 duels per Premier League match so far in the 2019/20 season, whilst also averaging two tackles and clearances, as per Sofascore. Therefore, he could be the right man to halt Grealish in his tracks.

The 26-year old will surely be vital for the Magpies if he can stop Grealish and thus help the Toon claim another three points.

Geordies, will Manquillo be vital for a Newcastle win tomorrow? Comment below with your views!

Jonny-Rocks Stadium

Key information about Jonny-Rocks Stadium

Jonny-Rocks Stadium was built in 1927 and now houses the League Two side Cheltenham Town. The ground is located on Whaddon Road in Cheltenham and has had numerous names over the years.

Its current capacity stands at 7,066 but with 5,054 of those places being in the standing area. It has a natural grass pitch that measures 101m by 65m, with no undersoil heating installed nor a running track surrounding it.

The record attendance at Jonny-Rocks Stadium is 8,326 and it was set during a match against Reading in the FA Cup 1st Round on 17 November 1956.

A history of Jonny-Rocks Stadium

Jonny-Rocks Stadium was built in 1927 but it wouldn’t be until 1932 that its current hosts would finally settle there. Still, it is quite interesting to note that many years would still pass before the ground would host senior football. The stadium was built by Cheltenham Original Brewery on the site of the former Berkeley Hunt kennels and it had been officially named Victory Sports Ground.

However, due to its address on Whaddon Road, it would often be referred to as exactly that by the fans and the media alike, following the tradition of stadiums being called after their location. But just as was the case back then in the 1900s, the now Jonny-Rocks Stadium is a modest ground and was consistently one of the smallest in the leagues they were playing in over the years.

Not much has changed ever since and back when they were in League One, it was actually the smallest stadium to be used in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 campaigns with a total capacity of just 7,066, 5,054 of which are still in the standing areas. They did, however, go over that limit in 1956 when 8,326 watched Cheltenham Town’s clash against Reading in the FA Cup 1st Round on 17 November.

The newest stand to be opened at the ground is the Hazlewoods Stand, which was erected in December 2005, has a capacity of 1,100 places and is mostly reserved for the away fans. Before that, they also constructed the Colin Farmer Stand in 2001 with 2,034 supporters fitting in an all-seated area of the stadium.

Probably the most interesting thing about the Jonny-Rocks Stadium is its name. As previously mentioned, the ground’s official name was the Victory Sports Ground but that changed in April 2009 when it was renamed the Abbey Business Stadium due to the first sponsorship deal. However, on 13 July 2015, the club announced a new three-year deal to rename the stadium The World of Smile Stadium but that would end a year later and the stadium was renamed LCI Rail Stadium for the 2016/17 campaign. It took its current name in 2018/19 following the latest sponsorship deal.

Gloucester City also called it home from 2010 until 2017.

Tickets to watch Cheltenham Town at Jonny-Rocks Stadium

All tickets to watch Cheltenham Town play at Jonny-Rocks Stadium can be found on the club’s official website. The price for an adult ticket ranges from £17 to £22 depending on the stand chosen.

The club also offers season tickets that you can get from £315 to £414 for adults.

Spurs can land their own Paul Pogba with Boubakary Soumare

After the doom and gloom of a drab 0-0 draw away at Bournemouth a few weeks ago, Tottenham raced through the gears and clinched Europa League football on the final day of the Premier League season.

By finishing in sixth, Jose Mourinho’s side rather crucially know that even a win for arch-rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup final against Chelsea will not deny them a place in European competition next season.

And with that all confirmed, Mourinho and the recruitment staff at Spurs will surely be on the look-out for new signings. One man who has been heavily linked with a switch to north London is Southampton midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Is it Mido or Pedro Mendes? This Spurs quiz will separate the loyal from the fake…

But according to ESPN, if the Lilywhites don’t manage to get him, then they could go for Lille starlet Boubakary Soumare – it’s claimed that the Frenchman has been on the club’s radar for a long while, although his £50m price tag may be a bit too high.

Whilst splashing out £50m on a 21-year-old seems like a major gamble, particularly with the financial issues facing most clubs across Europe, it may be the kind of business that Spurs look back on a few years as one smart investment.

The 6 foot 2 prodigy has earned widespread praise for his performances in Ligue 1, with Lille president Gerard Lopez exclaiming: “He’s one of the very best at his job. He’s technical, with incredible physical power and wins a great deal of possession. He’s a modern No.6 or 8. We’ll see him in the France team very soon.”

Unsurprisingly for someone as tall and technically gifted as he is, there have been comparisons to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, with Sky Sports journalist Gary Cotterill claiming that a source had told him that he is like the Red Devils star, but “without the baggage”.

Spurs of course have already signed one talented French midfielder from Ligue 1 in Tanguy Ndombele last season, and that hasn’t panned out so well so far. But if fans have any reservations about Soumare, then look at what Lopez added: “He dominated Ndombele last season. And Ndombele is not just anyone, since he signed for Spurs. Bouba will also go to a big club.”

It was a game that finished 2-2 between Lille and Lyon, with Soumare finding the back of the net. If Spurs want to sign their own version of a superstar like Pogba, then the 21-year-old could very well be that man.

Coventry: Jordan Shipley says Gustavo Hamer could be key to success in the Championship

Coventry City midfielder Jordan Shipley has handed Mark Robins a key to success in the Championship next season, saying the squad should play to the strengths of new signing Gustavo Hamer.

The 23-year-old became the Sky Blues’ first signing this summer, moving from Dutch side PEC Zwolle, and he has since been enjoying pre-season with his new club.

The Netherlands youth international’s transfer fee was just over £1m and he arrives with a wealth of experience in Dutch football, having made his professional first team debut for Feyenoord against Ajax back in 2017.

Following a short loan spell with Dordrecht in the Eerste Divisie, Hamer joined Zwolle and it was his performances there which gained him a move to Coventry.

Discussing Hamer’s impressions in pre-season training, Shipley revealed his thoughts on how the squad should set out and play next term.

“They (Coventry’s new signings) all have different strengths and different traits and we will be looking to play off that next season,” Shipley told CWR as quoted by Coventry Live.

“The three weeks that we have been in, the new signings have all stood out.

“Gustavo, he works hard, you could see how hard he works in the Rangers game. He’s good on the ball and if you give him the ball things are going to happen.

“We have to play to those strengths and work on our weaknesses in training and then we’ll see what happens.”

Aside from Hamer’s arrival at Coventry, Robins has also signed Julien Dacosta from Chamois Niortais on a free transfer, Callum O’Hare from Aston Villa, Marcel Hilssner and Ryan Giles.

Hamer seems to have made a significant early impression with the Sky Blues and to have such a comment made by a teammate should further enhance his reputation.

Robins has been busy thus far in the transfer window and next season already looks an exciting one for Coventry. If Hamer can deliver on the promise that has been hinted by Shipley, the Sky Blues boss will have pulled off a transfer masterstroke.

Leeds must snap up £5m bargain in Fulham’s Joe Bryan

Despite having won the Championship, Leeds United may well have been keeping a close eye on the play-off final this month between Fulham and Brentford. Both sides featured potential transfer targets for the Whites, including the likes of Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins. But it was the Cottagers who came out on top, and there was one man who was arguably solely responsible for Scott Parker’s side clinching their own return to the Premier League: Joe Bryan.Reports in recent days have suggested that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have joined the race to sign Bryan this summer, and if they were to judge him based off his last performance in a Fulham shirt, then a move should be a no-brainer for Victor Orta and co.

Is it Haaland Snr or David Hopkins? Your Leeds knowledge will be put to the test with this quiz…

Despite playing at left-back, he struck both goals and proved to be the match-winner for Parker’s side as they beat Brentford 2-1 at Wembley. His opening strike was a brilliantly taken free-kick, catching out David Raya at his near post. It prompted former England boss Glenn Hoddle to rave about it on Twitter, even likening him to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

And then, what eventually proved to be the decisive goal, Bryan linked up superbly with Aleksandar Mitrovic before firing past Raya inside the penalty box. It was a performance that was brimming with attacking intent, and showed just exactly what he can bring to the table – particularly going forward. His play-off final display was just the culmination of an impressive 2019/2020 campaign, in which he scored three times and racked up eight assists across all competitions.

With reports claiming that Fulham have set a valuation of around £5m, it would be an absolute bargain for Leeds to snap him up and add him to their ranks before the start of the new Premier League campaign. If Bielsa is keen on playing attacking football in the top-flight too, then having a goal-scoring full-back in his team sounds like a perfect match.

Celtic fans drool over Jeremie Frimpong’s Motherwell performance

He may just be 19, but Celtic rising star Jeremie Frimpong is already developing a burgeoning reputation in the game.

The Dutchman played 19 times for the senior side last season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in the Scottish Premiership alone.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

This campaign has seen Neil Lennon trust him even more, starting him in Celtic’s opening three league games. But after coming off the bench mid-way through the second-half against Motherwell on Sunday afternoon, Frimpong showed exactly why he is such a promising talent.

Aside from being involved in Christopher Jullien’s injury-time strike in his side’s 3-0 win, he completed two dribbles, provided two key passes and created one official big chance too – pretty impressive for a 28-minute cameo.

And after seeing his performance, Celtic fans took to Twitter to share his reactions.

A couple of fans talked up how Frimpong is a “game-changer”, and that his ability to take players on and be direct with the ball is something that gives Celtic an extra edge to their attack.

It’s no surprise that Celtic fans are in love with Frimpong at the moment.

The youngster is bringing energy and drive to this team as they chase for a historic tenth league title in a row, and if his early performances this season are anything to go by, then he could be a major reason why they go on to do it.

Frimpong is both for the future and for the now.
