Ipswich Town now in advanced talks to sign "strong" £10m star after Kipre

Having already agreed a loan deal to sign Cedric Kipre from Stade de Reims, Ipswich Town are now reportedly closing in on their second signing of the summer in the form of another Ligue 1 star.

Ipswich set to sign Cedric Kipre

It’s been a slow summer transfer window at Portman Road so far as Kieran McKenna looks to build a side capable of earning an instant return to the Premier League without Liam Delap. The talented forward was always destined to depart once relegation was confirmed and he did just that when Chelsea came calling to win a frantic race for his signature.

Replacing the forward remains the toughest task for Ipswich this summer, but not one that sits top of their list of priorities. Instead, according to recent reports, The Tractor Boys are set to commence their summer business by signing Kipre on loan from Reims to hand the central defender his first move back to English football since leaving West Bromwich Albion last year.

Kipre will need little introduction to Championship fans given his extensive experience in England’s second tier, and that experience should prove to be key for McKenna’s side next season.

The Tractor Boys could add some attacking flair this summer…

BySean Markus Clifford Jun 16, 2025

Whether signing Championship experience is part of the overall plan for Ipswich this summer remains to be seen. Recent links have emerged with the likes of Kwame Poku have been mentioned in recent weeks before his move to QPR, but those at Portman Road could first welcome a midfield reinforcement to match the potential arrival of Kipre this summer.

Ipswich in advanced talks to signing Matusiwa

As reported by Le Parisien, Ipswich are now closing in on a deal and are in advanced talks to sign Azor Matusiwa from Stade Rennais this summer. The defensive midfielder initially cost the French side around €16m (£14m) back in January 2024, but is seemingly set to move on just 18 months later in favour of McKenna’s side.

As far as replacements for Jens Cajuste go, it’s fair to say that Matusiwa is an impressive option. The midfielder outperformed the former Ipswich loanee and Napoli midfielder in several key departments last season and will thrive in the Championship if he completes a summer switch.

In a deal worth £10m, Matusiwa could even turn into an excellent bargain at Portman Road. During his time at Reims, the midfielder found himself at the centre of praise more than once, including from Ben Mattinson in 2023. The analyst described the Dutchman’s anticipation as “great” and went on to praise him as “strong” as well as “agile”.

Azor Matusiwa celebrates for Reims.

So, although Ipswich have taken time to get going, both Kipre and Matusiwa would represent solid signings to kickstart their transfer window at long last.

Deandra Dottin back in West Indies squad for T20 World Cup

Two years after announcing her retirement, Dottin is back in the West Indies fold

Dottin: Young, determined WI players are improving through WCPL

Two years after unexpectedly announcing her retirement, Deandra Dottin is back in West Indies’ squad for the upcoming women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. Dottin, the scorer of the fastest century in women’s T20Is, made a sudden decision to quit in 2022, citing a “non-conducive” environment within the West Indies set-up. She reversed that decision last month, with one eye on the upcoming World Cup.She was named in the 15-member squad announced by Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Thursday, which also features an uncapped player in Nerissa Crafton.”We have a nice mix of experience and youth,” Kishore Shallow, the CWI president, said after the announcement. “We have some players bordering [on] 19; I think Zaida [James] is still probably a teenager and one or two of the young players there. So, really happy with the mix.Related

Aug 2022: Deandra Dottin announces West Indies retirement

“Also, I think, we all as West Indians are excited to see Deandra Dottin back. It has been a year of communication – back and forth – with Deandra, and I particularly want to recognise the involvement of Ann Browne-John who has led those conversations over the last year, even when she wasn’t officially the selector. She was integral in Deandra coming out of retirement.”Dottin’s recent form is particularly encouraging: she was the third-highest run-getter in WCPL 2024 league phase, with 113 runs in four innings at an average of 28.25 and strike rate of 111.88. She was also the only batter to have hit more than two sixes this WCPL season, leading into the final. Her 53 off 38 balls against Guyana Amazon Warriors set up a Super-Over finish at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Dottin returned to bat in the Super Over, her unbeaten 13 off four balls paving the way for Trinbago Knight Riders’ win.ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Head coach Shane Deitz welcomed Dottin back into the West Indies set-up. “Her record is phenomenal and she is doing it again at the WCPL as we speak,” Deitz said of Dottin. “We’ve been really working hard off the field with our team culture, and the leadership group within the team. Denadra and the other players who are coming into the side – they are all going to be welcomed in the same manner.”On the field, as I said, her record is unbelievable and gives us flexibility with power-hitting and smart batting as well. [She is] an unbelievable fielder, does death bowling and some other bowling in between and she really steps up to bowl the big overs and she is an absolute winner. She has been here at the camp past week and really fit in well. Great to get her back in the squad and we’re looking forward to her contributions in the World Cup.”When Dottin had announced her retirement in August 2022 at age 31, she had played 127 T20Is (alongside 143 ODIs) for 2697 runs and 62 wickets. That record fastest hundred of hers came at a T20 World Cup, back in 2010; she got to the landmark off 38 balls – at the time a record across both men’s and women’s cricket – and went on to smash 112 off 45 balls against South Africa in St Kitts. She took to the T20 circuit after her retirement, but had not played competitive cricket since September 2023 before taking charge of TKR at the ongoing WCPL.West Indies’ leadership team at the World Cup will remain the same, with Hayley Matthews to lead and Shemaine Campbelle her deputy. The team has been impressive in T20I cricket leading into this World Cup; they travelled to Pakistan in April-May and won 4-1, before going to Sri Lanka and taking the series 2-1.That was their previous assignment, and the World Cup XV included four changes from that squad. There was no room for Cherry-Ann Fraser, Shabika Gajnabi, Rashada Williams and Late Wilmott. They made way for Ashmini Munisar, Dottin, Mandy Mangru and Crafton. Mangru is uncapped in T20I cricket and has played just the one ODI.West Indies begin their World Cup campaign on October 4 in Dubai against South Africa, and then have the rest of their Group B games lined up against Scotland, Bangladesh and England. Emery clear he'd sign £100m player for Aston Villa after contact by agents

Aston Villa are just one month away from their opening Premier League game of the season against Newcastle United, and things have been far too quiet on the transfer front.

NSWE now prepared for bidding war to sign "underrated" star for Aston Villa

The Villans could light a fire in the transfer market.

BySean Markus Clifford Jul 18, 2025

Today, Unai Emery’s side confirmed the signing of young defender Modou Kéba Cissé from LASK on a pre-contract agreement, and he’ll link up with the club next year after spending 2025/2026 on loan at the Austrian outfit.

Cisse follows teenage duo Yasin Ozcan and Zepiqueno Redmond to the Midlands, as well as goalkeeper Marco Bizot, with Villa spending an estimated total of just £6 million so far this window.

Unfortunately for Emery, this window has been dominated by Villa’s battle against both PSR and UEFA’s FFP rules, which have undoubtedly played a role in their lack of activity.

Villa ‘resolved’ their PSR issues by selling their women’s team to V Sports prior to the June 30 footballing financial deadline (The Athletic), negating the need to sell star players, but were fined around £10 million by UEFA recently for FFP breaches, and that could rise to £23 million if they fail to comply again within the next three years (BBC).

The sale of their women’s team, according to UEFA’s club financial control body (CFCB), won’t be counted as profit in the eyes of FFP.

Villa Park before the match

“The sale of tangible or intangible assets, the exchange of players (so-called ‘swaps’) and the transfers of players between related parties” all cannot be included in submitted accounts, read a statement by the CFCB.

Taking this into account, Villa may still be forced to sell a high-profile player or two before deadline day. It is the almighty task of Monchi and NSWE to also ensure that they back Emery ahead of another campaign in Europe.

Their failure to qualify for the Champions League next season already appears to be having grave consequences, but that isn’t to say Villa cannot spend a penny.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is a target for the club, and media sources suggest they’ve made an approach for the Senegalese in a bid to strengthen their squad.

Unai Emery clear he's interested in signing Nicolas Jackson for Aston Villa

TBR Football and journalist Graeme Bailey have an update on their links to the Blues forward, who could now leave Stamford Bridge after Chelsea completed the signings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap for a combined £90 million.

Bailey reports that Emery has made it “known” he’s keen on reuniting with Jackson at Villa, after the pair previously worked together at Villarreal, so the Spaniard has a personal interest in signing the centre-forward.

Agents have reached out to the Villans to express Jackson’s availability, too, alongside Man United.

He was actually described as one of Chelsea’s “most important” players last season by Joe Cole, but he’s no longer considered ‘untouchable’ by Maresca’s side.

That being said, they’re also apparently in no desperate rush to sell, with The Mail and journalist Matt Barlow surprisingly reporting that Chelsea value Jackson at around £100 million.

Of course, Villa won’t be willing to pay nine figures, but if they can obtain a realistic price tag, there is reason to believe he’d be an excellent addition.

Their new Gordon: Everton set to hold talks over signing big-money PL star

Everton are entering a critical summer window, one that could define their ambitions under David Moyes and the Friedkin Group.

With creativity in short supply, the Merseyside club are looking for value in unexpected places.

Everton manager DavidMoyesreacts

Despite finishing the season with some of the league’s most resolute defending, their blunt edge going forward left much to be desired.

That’s why they’re targeting a player of rare pedigree, someone who can unlock defences, drag teams up the pitch single-handedly, and take the burden off the rest of the team.

It’s the same logic that saw them put their faith in a young Anthony Gordon, before his big-money and somewhat acrimonious departure to Newcastle.

Anthony Gordon

Now, they could be about to bring in someone Gordon himself has long looked up to.

Everton in talks to sign big-money player

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Everton are set to hold further talks with Manchester City over a sensational loan deal for Jack Grealish.

Manchester City's Jack Grealish

With the England international struggling for game time under Pep Guardiola last season, the Toffees see an opportunity to revitalise both their squad and the player.

Discussions have already begun over a potential temporary switch, with Everton making it clear they cannot accommodate Grealish’s current wages unless City cover a significant portion.

A permanent move has not been ruled out, but it would depend on the player agreeing to a steep salary reduction.

England manager, Thomas Tuchel, has already made it clear to Grealish that regular minutes will be essential if he wants to make England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Left out of City’s Club World Cup squad and featuring in just 20 Premier League matches last season, the message is clear: find football or fall further from contention.

For Everton, it would be a high-profile coup. Ashley Cole once described Grealish as having “that Eden Hazard quality. When you talk about little magicians who can win you games, he’s one of them.”

While Jamie Redknapp claimed he was “the real deal. He’s got everything if we play him in the right positions.”

Why Grealish could be Everton's next Gordon

While Grealish may be approaching 30 and Gordon only just 24, the stylistic parallels between the two are striking, particularly when comparing their best seasons.

Goal Involvements

Jack Grealish (2022/23)

21 (11 goals, 10 assists)

Anthony Gordon (2023/24)

12 (5 goals, 7 assists)

Source: FBref

According to data from FBref, the City outcast averaged 6.27 progressive carries per 90 minutes, compared to Gordon’s 4.30 in 2023/24.

Both players thrived as ball-carriers, routinely dragging their team forward. However, in terms of creative output, the margins are tighter than expected. Grealish posted 4.55 shot-creating actions per 90, with Gordon just behind on 4.45.

The former Villa man had the superior pass completion rate (84.1% vs Gordon’s 76.1%) and slightly more progressive passes (4.39 to 3.15 per 90), but Gordon’s energy without the ball stands out.

The Newcastle winger completed more tackles (1.71 vs 1.10) and blocks (0.84 vs 0.75) per 90, showcasing his suitability for Eddie Howe’s intense defensive structure.

One clear gap lies in the volume of involvement. Grealish averaged 42 carries and 33.9 touches in the attacking third per 90 minutes, both significantly higher than Gordon’s 29.8 carries and 22.8 touches.

But, context matters: Grealish’s City role demanded high possession involvement, whereas Gordon often thrived in a transitional system at Newcastle.

The most important takeaway is their shared strength as vertical threats. Both players can resist pressure, draw fouls, and win territory with the ball at their feet.

In Grealish, Everton would be gaining a player who can link play in tight areas, relieve pressure under a high press, and hold onto the ball in the final third.

Crucially, they’d also be securing a player with something to prove.

A steep drop in market value, from £86m in October 2021 to £24m today as per Transfermarkt, reflects both his limited minutes and age.

For Everton, this may be an opportunity to borrow a £100m-calibre player at a fraction of the price.

He could be the ideal short-term antidote to their creative drought and a mentor for the club’s emerging wide options.

With Gordon now thriving at Newcastle, this would be a compelling full-circle moment. Grealish, too, once broke through as the crown jewel of a relegation-threatened club.

A loan to Everton could see him return to those roots: carrying a team on his shoulders, delighting fans with flair, and reigniting his England ambitions.

For Everton, it’s a gamble – but one worth taking.

SEGUNDO TEMPO POUCO INSPIRADO

PBKS retentions: Will Arshdeep stay? Which uncapped players to retain?

Punjab Kings are likely to retain only two uncapped players – batters Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh – from their IPL 2024 squad. They will go into the upcoming mega auction with the largest purse, likely in excess of INR 100 crore, and also have four right-to-match options which can be used to buy back their players.ESPNcricinfo has learned PBKS were also keen to retain India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, who was their second-highest wicket-taker last season with 19 wickets. Some of the high profile players not retained by PBKS ahead of the auction include Harshal Patel, Sam Curran, Jitesh Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone.Related

IPL retention: How many players can a team keep? And at what cost?

PBKS will lose at least INR 8 crore from their purse of INR 120 crore for retaining two uncapped players. Shashank and Prabhsimran were their two top-scorers (354 and 334 runs respectively) in IPL 2024, where they finished ninth out of ten. Both batters played starring roles in their high-point of the season though, pulling off a record chase of 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.PBKS have not qualified for the IPL playoffs since 2014 and have made changes to their coaching set-up as well in an attempt to turn their performances around in 2025, bringing in Ricky Ponting as head coach.October 31 is the deadline by which the ten franchises have to submit their lists of retained players to the IPL. The teams have been allowed to retain up to six players ahead of the mega auction before the 2025 season, of which a maximum of five can be capped internationals and two can be uncapped players. While the IPL has set minimum deductions from the auction purse for each player retained – INR 18 crore for the first player, INR 14 crore for the second, INR 11 crore for the third, INR 18 crore for the fourth, INR 14 crore for the fifth, and INR 4 crore for an uncapped player – the franchises are free to pay more or less than those amounts to their retained players.
