Mosaddek Hossain’s stunning opening spell set up Bangladesh’s series-levelling win against Zimbabwe in Harare. The part-time offspinner completed his maiden five-wicket haul in just the seventh over of the innings, and became only the fourth Bangladesh bowler to take a five-for in T20Is, after Elias Sunny, Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al HasanWith Zimbabwe in tatters, Sikandar Raza scored a fighting half-century – his second of the series – but a total of 135 proved inadequate. Opener Litton Das spearheaded Bangladesh’s chase with a half-century and the target was achieved with seven wickets in hand and 15 balls to spare.Five wickets in seven overs Opening the bowling for the first time in T20Is, Mosaddek struck with the first ball of the match – Regis Chakabva edging the wide, innocuous delivery to the wicket-keeper. Wessly Madhevere, who had struck a fifty in the first T20I, slammed one straight to cover-point where Mahedi Hasan took an easy catch off the last ball of the over.In his second over, Mosaddek had captain Craig Ervine caught at slip while attempting a reverse sweep, reducing Zimbabwe to 6 for 3. Sean Williams was next to go, chipping one back at Mosaddek in the fifth over, with the bowler having to jump to complete the return catch.Mosaddek completed his five-for when Milton Shumba dragged one towards deep midwicket, only to see Hasan Mahmud run hard and complete a diving catch. Mosaddek became the first Bangladesh bowler to take the first five wickets to fall in an innings, and 31 was the lowest score for which Zimbabwe had lost their first five wickets in a T20I.Sikandar Raza struck 62 off 53 balls and added 80 for the sixth wicket with Ryan Burl•AFP/Getty Images
Raza leads the recovery Raza and Ryan Burl stopped the slide with an 80-run stand for the sixth wicket. Raza scored his second half-century of the series, hitting fours through cover and deep third, and also sixes over the leg-side boundary. He struck 62 off 53 balls before falling to Mustafizur in the 19th over.Burl had fallen in the 18th, when Hasan Mahmud bowled him for 32. Towards the end of the innings, Luke Jongwe struck a late six, as Zimbabwe tried to capitalise on the recovery that Raza had led.Litton starts quickly Litton got Bangladesh’s chase off to a quick start when he struck Tanaka Chivanga for two sixes and a four in the third over. But he lost his opening partner Munim Shahriar cheaply for the second game in a row when Richard Ngarava bowled him through the gate.Litton added 41 for the second wicket with Anamul Haque but got out shortly after reaching his half-century – his 56 off 33 balls included six fours and two sixes. Anamul struck two fours in his 16, but once again got out soon after getting set.The final act Afif Hossain was unbeaten on 30 off 28 balls and Najmul Hossain Shanto made 19 off 21 balls to take Bangladesh to the target. Their unbroken 55-run stand for the fourth wicket ensured there were no more hiccups for Bangladesh, who had lost their previous two wickets in the space of four balls. The seven-wicket victory brought Bangladesh level at 1-1 in the series, with the decider on Tuesday in Harare.
The January transfer window is still open for business for another couple of weeks and Leeds United are yet to make their signing of the month.
Daniel Farke’s side are top of the Championship table as it stands, after their 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road last time out, and may not be in desperate need of reinforcements.
Despite their strong position in the second tier, the Whites have been linked with an interest in Aston Villa forward Louie Barry this month, after he spent the first half of the season on loan with Stockport County in League One.
Leeds are reportedly keen on a loan deal for the English youngster, formerly of Barcelona, and it remains to be seen whether or not they will be able to get a deal over the line.
Louie Barry's current market value
Barry is currently valued at €1.8m (£1.5m) by Transfermarkt and that low valuation may be because the youngster is yet to prove himself in either of the top two tiers in England.
The 21-year-old starlet was playing on loan in League Two with Stockport in the second half of the 2023/24 campaign, scoring nine goals in 17 starts, before catching the eye in League One this term.
He racked up an eye-catching 15 goals in 23 matches in the third tier of English football in the first half of this season, before being recalled by Villa this month.
Barry has yet to prove himself at Championship level, though, and it would be a gamble for Leeds to make a move to bring him to Elland Road, as he may not be able to make the step up.
Instead, Farke and Leeds could focus on a left winger who has showcased his ability in the second tier – Largie Ramazani – and look to develop him in the coming months.
Leeds have hit gold with Largie Ramazani
The Whites signed the Belgian forward from Almeria in the summer and he was valued at €5m (£4.2m) by Transfermarkt at the time of the move.
Ramazani, who was once described as an “explosive” player by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has caught the eye in the Championship either side of an ankle injury that caused him to miss five games between October and November.
Largie Ramazani
The 23-year-old left winger racked up three goals and one assist in six league starts for Leeds before that injury absence, and has scored two goals and provided one assist in his last two games in all competitions.
This means that Ramazani has scored five goals and registered two assists in eight starts in all competitions for the Whites, which speaks to the level of quality he has the ability to provide in the final third when fit and firing.
At the time of writing (21/01/2025), Transfermarkt currently values him at €7.5m (£6.3m) and this shows that his value has soared during his time at Elland Road so far, and that he is already way more valuable than Barry.
Leeds make contact to sign "incredible" star, it's bye-bye Bamford
Leeds United have reportedly made a move to sign the centre-forward this month.
ByDan Emery Jan 18, 2025
Therefore, Leeds may be better off continuing to develop and utilise Ramazani’s skills on the left wing, rather than loaning in Barry to develop him for Villa in the future, as they have already hit gold with the Belgian marksman.

Derby County are now ready to join the race to sign a “talented” Premier League defender on loan this month, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
Rams now on a five-game losing streak
It was always going to be difficult to re-adjust to life in the Championship after dropping to League One, but Derby made a decent start to the campaign and found themselves some way clear of the relegation zone until December.
However, the Rams’ form has dropped off considerably in the last month or so, having now lost their last five games on the bounce in all competitions, including four in the league and a disappointing defeat away at Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.
As such, manager Paul Warne has made it clear that he wants to bring in some additional reinforcements during the January transfer window, recently revealing he wants at least two new players through the door before deadline day.

Warne said: “I think we need at least another couple of new faces. I want to sign another wide player, and I think I need another attacking option, be it in the middle or as a 10. I think we are two players away from where we want it to be realistically. We are a couple away from where I want to be and more players will leave the building.
Journalist Witcoop has now revealed the Rams are looking at signing a new defender, given that Curtis Nelson is out for the season and Nat Phillips is also sidelined with injury.
Witcoop states Derby are “ready to join the loan race” to sign Aston Villa defender Lamare Bogarde, but there may be significant competition for his signature.
Swansea City and unnamed clubs from overseas have also explored a move for the centre-back, so it remains to be seen whether County are able to win the race for his signature.
Bogarde featured in the Champions League this season
The 21-year-old is yet to cement his place in the Villa starting XI, given the quality of the squad, but he did get his first taste of European football earlier this season, featuring for 45 minutes against Young Boys in the Champions League.
The Dutchman has also featured sporadically in the Premier League, and was on the pitch for 53 minutes duting Villa’s most recent match, a 2-2 draw against Arsenal.
Aston Villa'sLamareBogardein action with Crystal Palace's Will Hughes
Considering the youngster is knocking on the door to start for Villa, he could be a solid signing in the Championship, and a much-needed one for Derby, with Phillips and Nelson out injured.
Reporter Sam Frost lauded the former Bristol Rovers loanee as “talented” during his time with the Gas, but consistent game time is exactly what he needs at this stage of his career, so a move to Pride Park could be a good deal for all parties, making this one to watch.

– Incomoda. Todo jogador que joga na minha posição, claro que incomoda, ainda mais sendo o segundo contratado por um clube do tamanho do São Paulo, de ter uma expectativa muito grande. A gente nunca fica satisfeito.

Now for South Africa, who have no time for England’s gap-year levels of rediscovery, writes Vithushan Ehantharajah
Vithushan Ehantharajah16-Aug-2022″It’s the last time I will ever write on a whiteboard, because I needed to ask how to spell ‘environment’.”Who’d have thought we would see the day when Ben Stokes is at the front of the class, pen in hand, not writing lines on a board. Instead, here he was on Sunday in the home dressing room at Lord’s, giving his teammates a refresher of the values outlined and abided by during the first four Tests of the summer. Values created in his own image that led to four bombastic wins against New Zealand and India and re-instigated a nation’s love for Test cricket.”I don’t think it was a necessity,” said the men’s Test captain on the meeting, almost regressing to the cool kid who didn’t want to be seen as the square. “It was a case of getting everyone back together and going over, in smaller detail what we spoke about before we played that first game against New Zealand.”When we get together as a group we have our environment, our way of playing and getting that message across to everyone that we are back in this dressing room with our way of playing and thinking about the game.”All present were aware of how important this session was. The 43 days between the last day of the India Test and the first day of the South Africa series at Lord’s on Wednesday have felt twice as long. But even packed to the brim with the demoralisation of limited overs series against India and the Proteas and the distraction of the men’s Hundred has been an anticipation of getting back to the five-day stuff. And in the 10 minutes that Stokes spent up there in front of the whiteboard, the mood in the room was of a group of players and staff glad to be back in each other’s company and well aware of how they will continue to extol the virtues established at the start of the international summer.Related

In a different era, certainly under a different captain, this might have been a long, more numbers-orientated exercise. It is wrong to assume this is a group who aren’t bothered by data, especially when coming up against a Proteas side with plenty of new faces. But this is a squad that has, ultimately, been brought out of their shell by focusing on their personalities and strengths rather than their statistics and weaknesses. Where there might have previously been a check on the robustness of the algorithms, now there is a top-up of the good vibes.Importantly, though – the best way to test the robustness of “good vibes” is by exposing it to bad ones. Finally, after a relatively docile three Tests against New Zealand, and a one-off anomaly against India comes three against a South Africa side who simply have no time for England’s gap-year levels of rediscovery of self and purpose.Ben Stokes lines up with his side for a team photo ahead of Wednesday’s first Test against South Africa•Getty Images
Despite messages from the hierarchy within the South Africa camp not to be drawn into discussing the dreaded “B-word”, players and coaches have been coerced into addressing it in their various media commitments over the last month. Captain Dean Elgar, fiery quick Anrich Nortje and grizzled coach Mark Boucher have all had their say – they’re not fans – with Boucher taking the lighthearted route, pre-empting questions in Monday’s press conference by saying anyone who mentions it needs to do a shot of tequila. And thus, he got off lightly, with only two questions relating to the buzzword. Elgar’s presser on the eve of the first Test brought a few more. By now the Proteas have sipped right down to the scorpion. There is a lot to praise of the mood around this England side, particularly how it has been maintained during this Test hiatus. A format that was once a grind now feels like a laugh, even for a 40-year-old like James Anderson who has seen it all but still feels a unique urge in his 20th home summer: “It feels like we can carry on doing special things in the future. So you want to be around that as much as possible.”Since playing his last competitive match on July 19 – his ODI swansong – Stokes has kept a few plates spinning. Beyond resting to ensure his body – specifically left knee – was primed for the rigours of three Tests in four weeks, there have been regular check-ins with those under his watch or others wanting to be. There have been encouraging messages for performances – both in private and over Twitter – as well as checking in on the likes of Zak Crawley who left the first portion of the Test season with a few more doubts than the rest. Even those currently injured who have yet to play in this revamped team, such as Mark Wood and Jofra Archer, have had a check-in from their captain.Even without the captaincy, Stokes would probably have done all those things as the senior man. But there is clearly a growing sense of acknowledgement from him that he is the key part of all this. He has quietly become one of the most powerful voices in English cricket and appreciates the clout he now wields.Zak Crawley gets another opportunity at the top of the order•Getty Images
During a County Championship match between Durham and Middlesex at Chester-le-Street at the end of July, Stokes mentioned that Mark Ramprakash, former England batting coach, now a consultant at Middlesex, picked Stokes’ brain for the benefit of those under his care. “He (Ramprakash) was asking me what he needs to tell his players about what we want to see from players to get noticed,” revealed Stokes.Head coach Brendon McCullum and managing director Rob Key did as much last week with the Lions, along with assistant coach Paul Collingwood who assumed the main coaching role. A debrief at the start of the week of their tour match with South Africa, along with conversations throughout, inspired an innings-and-56-run victory that suggests the next crop are all in.”[It’s about] not just keeping everything in our dressing-room here, because at the moment if lads want to get into this England team it’s unfair for us not to deliver the message to those guys who are representing Lions.”If you’re leaving lads unsure about what’s expected of them to get into the team, that’s unfair on players because we have a certain type of way of playing and everyone trying to push for this England team needs to know that.”A wider buy-in is essential if this mindset is to last – there’s a reason the most “successful” cults have the most followers. And from Stokes’ sermons alone, he can gauge there is “more excitement than normal” because players now won’t get a “slap on the wrist for playing a stupid shot”. It is the exact kind of rhetoric that is music to the ears of batters up and down the country. All told, it is not for South Africa to believe. But it will be wrong to totally dismiss their annoyance as refusing to address what England are doing. So much of what the hosts have concocted is built on forgetting their doubts, moving away from conservatism and ignoring risk. Ultimately, disregarding the three aspects of this format of the game that have made some legends and destroyed countless others.Over the last month, South Africa have been quietly pinpointing ways to make England acknowledge them once more. And perhaps one of the key weapons at their disposal is that, for all the love from the home fans, there remains a typical British cynicism that is never too far from the surface. They saw that first-hand during the limited-overs series. Victory in the T20s and a 1-1 stalemate in ODIs led to questions over Jos Buttler’s captaincy and a sudden apathy towards a charismatic white-ball team. A Test side that came into this summer with one win in 17 has shakier foundations and much less credit in the bank.”What I will say is they’ve had more time to prepare than New Zealand or India have, because they’ve seen what we’ve done in four games,” said Stokes, when asked if South Africa carry any fear. “They might have more ideas as to how to stop Rooty (Joe Root) or Jonny (Bairstow) when they get going.”This is a rivalry that has always had plenty of niggle to accompany the hard-fought cricket. And on the eve of what should be another cracker to add to its long history, as both Stokes and Elgar speak of only being concerned about what they themselves are doing, it is amusing to think of this as a battle to see which is the least bothered by the other. With all the talking done, we’ll finally get our answer.
Chelsea have scored 45 goals so far this season, averaging 16.1 shots per game and averaging 57.7% possession – thus ranking fourth in the division in all of those metrics. However, the Blues have only scored eight goals in their last seven Premier League games, with Nicolas Jackson not scoring a single goal in that time.
Jackson has made 23 appearances under Enzo Maresca so far this season, scoring nine goals, providing five assists and totalling 1,726 minutes played.
However, with all nine of those goals coming in the first 16 games of the Premier League, Chelsea have struggled in recent weeks to stick the ball in the back of the net, not being able to turn to a natural second striker option.
Christopher Nkunku has been used as the backup striker to Jackson this season, but this clearly isn’t his natural position, which has seen the Blues’ performance levels drop whenever the Frenchman joins the action as the centre-forward. Therefore, could Chelsea look to address these issues in the final few days of the January transfer window?
Chelsea's search for a striker
According to reports from The Guardian, Chelsea have joined the race for Brighton striker, Evan Ferguson, who could leave the club on loan or on a permanent deal this month.
Transfer Focus
The 20-year-old has also been subject to interest from West Ham, Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Bournemouth, Everton and Tottenham.
The reports state a fee of around £40m could be enough to secure the young striker, but it is unclear whether Chelsea are interested in a loan or permanent deal. Paul Winstanley, who was previously working at Brighton and is now Chelsea’s co-sporting director, could play a big part in this deal in the final days of the window.
Brighton & Hove Albion'sEvanFergusonscores their second goal
Ferguson has made 14 appearances for Brighton this season, scoring one goal and totalling 373 minutes played, struggling for consistent minutes under Fabian Hurzeler so far this season.
How Ferguson compares to Liam Delap
Another striker who has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea – and is also playing in the Premier League already – is Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. The 21-year-old has made 23 appearances so far this season, scoring eight goals, providing two assists and totalling 1,705 minutes played.

When comparing Ferguson’s break-through season metrics with those of Delap and Jackson, you can see the Republic of Ireland international has a high level of clinical finishing, scoring 0.67 goals per 90, overperforming his xG (0.50 per 90) and averaging a 0.22 goals/shot ratio per 90.
Ferguson has been compared to Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba in certain aspects of his game, with journalist Pete O’Rourke stating he has “similarities” to the Ivorian, in terms of a player who can lead the front line on his own, and be a good finisher.
With Drogba having netted 164 goals in 381 games across two spells for the club, that comparison certainly bodes well.
Whilst many links have placed Delap as Chelsea’s number one target, the fact he is likely unavailable until the summer could force their hands to make a move for Ferguson this month, in order to strengthen the squad for the second half of the upcoming campaign.
