Parte do artigo diz o seguinte:

Rauf's return can cover for Lamichhane loss, says Maxwell

Melbourne Stars captain also backs Nic Maddinson to come good in Friday’s BBL qualifier against Sydney Sixers

Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell believes the return of Pakistan quick Haris Rauf will cover the loss of Sandeep Lamichhane for Friday night’s BBL qualifier against Sydney Sixers.Lamichhane has left the Stars ahead of the finals series due to international duties with Nepal in their upcoming 50-over tri-series with Oman and USA.Rauf flew back into Melbourne on Tuesday night after missing the last four BBL matches because of international duty. He made his T20 international debut for Pakistan in the three-game series against Bangladesh. The Stars have lost their last three matches without Rauf and Maxwell said he was delighted to regain him despite losing Lamichhane.”As much as it is a shame to lose Sandeep we do get another overseas [player] back in Haris Rauf who has taken the BBL by storm,” Maxwell said. “I think he has 16 wickets in seven games.””That’s pretty incredible for your first tournament, bowling fast on wickets that haven’t really had a lot of pace and bounce in most of the places we’ve played. So for him to get something out of them, he’s aggressive, he takes the game on and suits the Stars game plan down to a tee. Hopefully, he can produce the goods for us tomorrow night as well.”The winner of the qualifier will host the BBL final next weekend while the loser gets a second chance in the challenger next Thursday. The Stars’ recent form slump, which includes a loss to the Sixers at the SCG, has not concerned Maxwell.”I’m not too fazed,” Maxwell said. “I think the way we’ve played this season has been pretty incredible and it’s pretty rare to lock away top spot with three games to go in the season and we were afforded the luxury of being able to rest a few players that had certain niggles. We were able to get guys through to make sure they were 100% for the finals. It’s worked out perfectly for us.”To be able to play fresh guys at this stage of the tournament is very valuable.”The Stars rested quick Nathan Coulter-Nile for the losses against the Sixers and Adelaide Strikers, while Daniel Worrall was rested against the Brisbane Heat last Saturday. Worrall has been included in the 13-man squad for the qualifier alongside Rauf.Maxwell was coy about who would open the batting with Marcus Stoinis in the absence of Hilton Cartwright who is out of the tournament with a broken finger.”It’s a good question, you’ll have to find out tomorrow,” Maxwell said when queried. “I’m 100% certain on what’s going to happen tomorrow but you’ll have to wait and see.”Nic Maddinson and Seb Gotch have both been tried in the last two games. Maddinson’s form has been particularly troubling for the Stars. He’s made just 116 runs for the tournament, averaging 10.54 at a strike rate of just 91.33, which includes a 40 against the Hobart Hurricanes in Moe before Christmas. But Maxwell is backing Maddinson to fire against his old side after a net session with the Stars’ list manager and batting mentor Trent Woodhill on Wednesday.”He’s good,” Maxwell said. “He had a really good hit with Trent Woodhill yesterday and sorted some things out. Even speaking to Trent before, he’s in a really good headspace, he’s really excited for a match-up against his old side and he’s as pumped as anyone. He’s looking forward to tomorrow and I’m looking forward to seeing how he goes.”

Man Utd battling rivals for signing of “insane” Premier League star

Manchester United are believed to be battling one of their biggest rivals for the signing of an “insane” Premier League star, according to a new transfer update.

Man Utd transfer news

The Red Devils have been linked with numerous potential signings in recent weeks, ahead of what promises to be an intriguing summer transfer window with Sir Jim Ratcliffe at the helm.

One such figure is Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, who has played a huge role in his side's Bundesliga title win this season, offering plenty of quality down the right flank. The 23-year-old has scored eight goals and registered seven assists in the competition in 2023/24, and could be viewed as an upgrade on the likes of Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Manchester United transfer target Jeremie Frimpong in action for Bayer Leverkusen.

Jarrad Branthwaite has also emerged as a top target for United at the end of the season, following an excellent campaign for a struggling Everton side in the Premier League, which included scoring the opening goal at home to Liverpool in the recent Merseyside derby.

Centre-back is a key position that needs to be focused on in the summer, considering there are several ageing players in that position, and highly-rated Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo has emerged as another option for Erik ten Hag.

On the flip-side, it could be that certain current players leave once the current campaign comes to an end, and Marcus Rashford is one individual the club could be willing to sell, following an underwhelming season.

Man Utd want "insane" Premier League ace

CaughtOffside recently relayed a report from Spain which claims Manchester United are keen on signing Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma this summer, with Ratcliffe seeing him as a superb option to bring in.

However, the Japanese ace is also wanted by Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, so there could be a big battle to acquire his signature ahead of next season.

Mitoma could be a fantastic signing by United this summer, having stood out as such an eye-catching player for Brighton since arriving from Kawasaki Frontale back in 2021. His pace, dribbling and unpredictability have all stood out, and Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi has heaped praise on him in the past, saying:

"I have no words left for Mitoma. He's really underrated but trust me, he's so, so underrated. The world of football hasn't understood the value of Mitoma. He can be an incredible player for any manager, not just for me. He's insane."

Mitoma could even be viewed as an upgrade on Rashford this summer, should the Englishman be moved on, scoring three goals and registering four assists in the league this season.

He has also averaged 2.1 dribbles per game, compared to 1.5 for the current United man, as well as 1.3 key passes per game (Rashford has 0.8), suggesting that he could be a more direct and creative option capable of causing defenders bigger problems, or at the very least superb competition for the England winger.

It could be argued those numbers would improve if he was surrounded by superior players, and at 26 years of age, there is still so much more to come from him.

Ten Hag must ditch Eriksen & unleash Man Utd ace who “loves a goal”

The Man United star has netted seven Premier League goals this season.

ByTom Lever Apr 27, 2024

The threat of City and Arsenal is great, considering the pair are better teams than United currently, but the hope is that Ratcliffe can persuade him to move to Old Trafford, selling his plans for the future to him.

Everest Premier League postponed due to coronavirus fears

The Everest Premier League (EPL), Nepal’s foremost franchise T20 tournament, has been postponed following a government directive to refrain from mass gatherings amid fears about the transmission of COVID-19 (coronavirus). The tournament, initially scheduled to start on March 14, was set to feature Chris Gayle, Sandeep Lamichhane and Mohammad Shahzad. The tournament’s organisers said in a statement that it would be rescheduled for “the closest possible time whenever the situation is favourable”.The has only been one confirmed case of coronavirus in Nepal to date, but given the country’s proximity to China, the health ministry requested that the public suspend all major gatherings to reduce the risk of community spread.ALSO READ: Sickness concern means no handshakes for England in Sri LankaGrowing concerns about the spread of coronavirus has forced sporting events across the globe to review their position including the Tokyo Olympics. Cricket has not been immune, too. The EPL is the second tournament to fall victim to concerns over the outbreak, following a women’s quadrangular T20I series in Thailand that was scheduled to feature Netherlands, Ireland and Zimbabwe. The EPL postponement comes even as cricket is being played in Nepal’s neighbouring countries: India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. On Wednesday, the Sindh provincial government ruled out moving PSL games away from Karachi. The BCCI, too, is yet to issue a directive on the measures it is taking even as the IPL is scheduled to start on March 29.ALSO READ: PSL games to go ahead in Karachi as scheduled amid coronavirus fearsThe EPL organisers, though, have decided it is best to be proactive as cases of people being affected by coronavirus escalates rapidly across the globe. “We are naturally all sad at today’s announcement of having to temporarily postpone the 2020 EPL, but we simply have to put the health and wellbeing of all Nepalis and our overseas players before everything else,” Aamir Akhtar, the competition’s managing director, said.”It was crucial that we announced this decision now at the earliest possible juncture to ensure the minimum possible disruption to all of our stakeholders, who are integral parts of the ongoing success and growth of the league.”We would like to thank the government of Nepal for their support and counsel through this challenging period, and we support entirely the professional advice throughout. I would like to assure that as soon as we are able to go ahead with the 2020 season, we will be working to ensure that it will be the spectacular event the likes of which Nepal has never seen before.”

Ranking the 15 best Leeds United kits of all time

Leeds have had some fabulous kits over the years, of which many have become sought-after retros among the shirt-collector community.

Football jerseys have become something of a fashion item in many wardrobes across the globe, and Leeds have certainly contributed to that trend.

Over the Whites' 105-year history, they've had several manufacturers designing their kits and some have certainly been better than others, to say the least.

Our list consists of strips from recent years and right back until the late 80s, so we've included a wide range of retro classics and modern-day crackers.

Kalvin Phillips

Fresh-faced Kalvin Phillips, pictured above, dons this beauty of a home shirt from Leeds' 2016/17 Championship campaign. Made by Kappa, the jersey sports a trendy collar which adds a unique and distinctive quirk. A clean number.

Unfortunately, the Whites' performances didn't live up to the kit that season, as they fell five points adrift of sixth-placed Fulham, who occupied the final play-off place. Garry Monk was in post as gaffer, but resigned shortly after the campaign.

14 2008/09 Home Macron

Although not sponsor-less, the faint text actually makes for a cleaner look and the blue v-neck collar is a nice touch.

The Peacocks finished fourth in League One sporting this strip, and missed out on promotion in the play-offs after Millwall claimed a 2-1 aggregate semi-final victory.

13 2007/08 Home Admiral

Fan favourite Jermaine Beckford wheels off in celebration rocking Leeds' Admiral-made home kit. The striker enjoyed a prolific campaign donning this strip, scoring 20 goals in 40 league appearances.

The sponsor isn't in your face, which is sometimes one of the biggest problems with modern-day jerseys, but it's the classy blue and yellow collar that really makes this number a beauty. The iconic Coca-Cola sleeve badge is worth noting, too.

However, despite a marvellous home strip, the season ended in heartbreak as the club suffered a 1-0 play-off final defeat at Wembley to Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers, leaving them in England's third tier for a second successive season.

12 2009/10 Away Macron

The iconic blue and yellow colours of Leeds United are paired beautifully on this number, manufactured by Macron. The collared classic was worn during the club's League One promotion-winning campaign, which saw them accumulate 85 points.

Whilst the two contrasting colours might not be to everyone's taste, it's certainly a refreshing change from the dull away strips we often see nowadays. Good job, Macron.

11 2005/06 Away Admiral

Admiral produced a lovely navy and light blue away number for the West Yorkshire club here. The racing-esque stripe down either side of the jersey adds a trendy feature, whilst the centralised badge creates a retro feel.

Unfortunately, that season saw Leeds dealt a 3-0 defeat by Watford in the Championship play-off final. Manager Kevin Blackwell was sacked later that year after a troubled start to the following campaign.

Robbie Blake, pictured above, and Rob Hulse ended the season as top scorers with 11 goals apiece.

10 2013/14 Away Macron

This shirt just screams Ross McCormack. The unusual gold jersey is probably like marmite for a lot of people, you either love it or hate it, but we love this Macron-made jersey.

Perhaps the sponsor could've been a little smaller, but notwithstanding that, it's a lovely strip that embodies everything an away kit should be – unique!

McCormack netted a whopping 28 times in the Championship that year, and unsurprisingly took home the Golden Boot. It turned out to be his final season at the West Yorkshire club as Fulham paid £11m for his services in the summer.

The EFL Championship's top goalscorers of all time

The second tier has seen plenty of great goalscorers, but who leads the charts?

ByStephan Georgiou Feb 15, 2024 9 2015/16 Away Kappa

The age-old phrase 'less is more' certainly applies here. No sponsor, just a proper football kit. The traditional Leeds colours of yellow and blue create a fabulous away strip that deserved so much more than a 13th-placed finish.

The Whites had two managers in post that season in the form of Uwe Rosler, who began the campaign before getting the boot in October, and Steve Evans, who also got the sack shortly after.

This period as a Leeds fan was certainly a dull and uninspiring time. Between 2012 and 2016, they failed to finish inside the top half of the Championship.

8 1992/93 Home Admiral

Throwing it right back to the early 90s, here.

The old badge will certainly bring a great deal of nostalgia to certain generations, and if you are a sucker for retro kits, you'll love this one. The navy collar breaks up the white beautifully and the subtle yellow detailing running across the fixture really makes this a super jersey. Of course, it wouldn't be a 90s kit if it wasn't a bit too baggy for the players! Fantastic work again, Admiral.

7 1989-91 Away Umbro

Another gorgeous yellow away strip manufactured by Umbro. The nostalgic badge, paired with the blue collar, makes for a kit desired by many football fanatics.

The strip was worn during Howard Wilkinson's reign as manager and was donned during the Whites' promotion campaign back to the top flight in 1989/90.

The jersey is listed on Classic Football Shirts for £199.99, further evidencing just how valued and sought-after it is.

6 1992-93 Away Admiral

Now, this one really is complete marmite. As aforementioned, away strips shouldn't be dull in our eyes, they should be risky colourful attempts to produce a creative masterpiece, and that's exactly what this kit is.

It was worn when Leeds were reigning top-tier champions, but they only just survived the drop, finishing in 17th place, two points above the relegation zone. Eric Cantona was pinched by rivals Manchester United midway through the season and ended with 15 goals. It's a shame that a stunning kit was marred by a littering of poor results throughout the year.

Saliva and sweat to shine the ball restricted under Australian Covid-19 guidelines

A framework has also been drawn up to manage athletes who contract Covid-19 when sport resumes

Daniel Brettig01-May-20201:42

Tait: Legalised tampering might be chance for cricket to move forward

Shining the ball with saliva or sweat will be restricted in Australia under a framework released by the federal government about the staged return of both professional and recreational sport amid the coronavirus pandemic. The guidelines, drawn up by the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in conjunction with medical experts, sporting bodies and federal and state governments, outline a staged return to play at all levels, hastened by the desires of the winter football codes in particular to return in time to salvage some of their seasons. Cricket Australia’s chief medical officer John Orchard was involved in the preparation of the framework. They will have international implications, and follow the revelation on ESPNcricinfo last week that cricket administrators were actively considering the possibility of allowing the ball to be polished with artificial substances to reduce the risks associated with using saliva on the ball and then passing it around the field of play.ALSO READ: Cricket to consider legalised ball-tampering in wake of coronavirusUnder the AIS framework, restrictions on sport are currently outlined as being at “Level A” restricting all training except that of the individual kind. But there will soon be a move to “Level B”, potentially little more than a week from now, which will allow the following: “Nets — batters facing bowlers. Limit bowlers per net. Fielding sessions — unrestricted. No warm up drills involving unnecessary person-person contact. No shining cricket ball with sweat/saliva during training.”The third and final “Level C”, to be permitted later in the year, is outlined as: “Full training and competition. No ball shining with sweat/saliva in training.”These step by step returns will run alongside government decisions about when and how. The NRL is set to be the first sport to return to action, having flagged a May 28 return date for the competition, which will be reduced to 20 rounds. The AFL is currently debating some of the logistical issues around its own return.Intriguingly, cricket as a non-contact sport may actually be permitted to return before the winter codes, leaving the northern states open to play. The Australian team’s next scheduled matches in Australia were slated to be as part of a limited-overs series against Zimbabwe in August.”Sport makes an important contribution to the physical, psychological and emotional well-being of Australians,” the framework report states. “The economic contribution of sport is equivalent to 2-3% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating effects on communities globally, leading to significant restrictions on all sectors of society, including sport. Resumption of sport can significantly contribute to the re-establishment of normality in Australian society. How would you shine the cricket ball in the time of Covid-19?•Getty Images

“The principles outlined in this document apply equally to high performance/professional level, community competitive and individual passive (non-contact) sport. The AIS Framework is a timely tool for ‘how’ reintroduction of sport activity will occur in a cautious and methodical manner, to optimise athlete and community safety. Decisions regarding the timing of resumption of sporting activity (the ‘when’) must be made in close consultation with Federal, State/Territory and Local Public Health Authorities. The priority at all times must be to preserve public health, minimising the risk of community transmission.”Standards for a return to elite sport are also a part of the report, which dictates how athletes contracting Covid-19 may be dealt with, and precautions that will continue to need to be taken even after full competitive sport is permitted to resume.”The resumption of sport and recreation activities will be a complex process. A careful stepwise process needs to be implemented to ensure the safety of athletes and other personnel and the wider community,” the report states. “Preparation for resumption includes education of the athletes and other personnel, assessment of the sport environment and agreement on training scheduling to accommodate social distancing.”The approach to training should focus on ‘get in, train, get out’, minimising unnecessary contact in change rooms, bathrooms and communal areas. Prior to resumption, sporting organisations should have agreed protocols in place for management of illness in athletes and other personnel. Special consideration should be made for para-athletes and others with medical conditions as they may be more vulnerable to COVID-19 infection. Clubs and individuals should apply a graded return to mitigate injury risk, understanding that sudden increase in training load will predispose to injury.”Individuals should not return to sport if in the last 14 days they have been unwell or had contact with a known or suspected case of COVID-19. Any individual with respiratory symptoms (even if mild) should be considered a potential case and must immediately self-isolate, have COVID-19 excluded and be medically cleared by a doctor to return to the training environment.”Athletes returning to sport after COVID-19 infection require special consideration prior to resumption of high intensity physical activity.”Australia and New Zealand have been two of the world’s least-affected countries in the coronavirus pandemic. After being one of the first nations exposed to the virus, border closures, social distancing measures and business and large scale gathering shutdowns have helped to bring the virus to a standstill relative to events in the UK, United States and India. The full report can be found here.
