It took India 17 balls on the final morning to take the last wicket and wrap up their seventh Test win in England
Sidharth Monga22-Aug-2018It took India 17 balls on the final morning to take the last wicket and wrap up their seventh Test win in England, an utter domination of the hosts from the moment India were inserted on day one. The win also made Virat Kohli India’s second-most successful captain in Tests, behind only MS Dhoni now.It ended with a carrom ball that bounced unexpectedly and took the top edge from James Anderson’s bat. India got the other 19 wickets through pace. This would have been only the second time India would have taken all 20 through pace, following closely on the feat they first achieved in Johannesburg earlier this year. The win came in similar circumstances: India two down in the series, their batting under the scanner, and on both occasions the batsmen stepped up to give their bowlers something to bowl at. And how the bowlers responded. Hardik Pandya took a five-for in the space of 29 balls in the first innings, and then Jasprit Bumrah laid to waste the hard work done by Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes in the second with a spell of high pace and control.
There have been question marks over the future of "outrageous" Celtic hero Reo Hatate in recent times, but now a key update has emerged, providing more clarity over the situation.
Hatate's Celtic future
The 25-year-old has proven to be an excellent signing by the Hoops since arriving at the club last year, completing a move from Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale.
Hatate's statistics highlight the impact that he has made in a Celtic shirt in his relatively short time at the club, with 15 goals and 16 assists coming his way in a total of 76 appearances to date. This season, he has two apiece in the Scottish Premiership, helping Brendan Rodgers' side top the table.
That being said, there have been some doubts over the Japanese's future at Parkhead, even though Hatate signed a new deal with Celtic in September, with a move away during the January transfer window not out of the question. The Hoops ace has been linked with a move to Tottenham, which would see him link up with former manager Ange Postecoglou in the process.
He has, however, picked up a serious hamstring problem that will keep him sidelined for around two months, having suffered the issue in the Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid in October, when Rodgers' men drew 2-2 at home to the La Liga giants.
Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi.
Fresh Hatate update
According to a new update from Football Insider, Hatate looks set to stay at Celtic beyond the January transfer window due to the hamstring injury he is suffering from:
"Reo Hatate’s hamstring injury has ended any possibility of a January move away from Celtic. Premier League clubs have sent their scouts north of the border on several occasions to assess the 25-year-old central midfielder – who has been linked with Tottenham."
While Hatate's injury is clearly a big blow for Celtic, it could potentially end up being a blessing in disguise if it means he stays put at Parkhead for the remainder of the season and beyond.
The central midfielder has been such an important part of the Hoops' success since arriving at the club, so to lose him midway through the season, especially after only just extending his stay at Parkhead, would represent a major setback.
Hatate's quality is highlighted by the fact that Scotland and Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has described him as "outrageous" in the past, while Liverpool star Andy Robertson has called him a "serious player".

It could be that the midfielder decides to look for a new challenge at the end of the season should interest in his signature emerge, but on the plus side, Celtic do at least find themselves in a strong bargaining position given that he has only recently signed a new deal.
For now, Rodgers will just hope to get Hatate back in the fold as soon as possible and allow him to play a key role in what is hopefully yet another Scottish Premiership title win this season.
The complimentary-tickets issue remains a worry for the BCCI, however, with Sourav Ganguly, the CAB president, saying he would not compromise even if the first T20I were to be shifted away from Eden Gardens

A dispute over the allocation of complimentary tickets has resulted in Indore losing out on hosting the the second ODI between India and West Indies. Visakhapatnam will now host the match, which is scheduled for October 24.The matter came to a boil after the simmering dispute over complimentary tickets, between the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) and the BCCI, came to light last week. Under the new constitution of the BCCI, which has been approved by the Supreme Court, only 10% of tickets for each category can be distributed as complimentary. The MPCA argued that the BCCI’s request for complimentary seats in the pavilion block for sponsors and official partners exceeding the 10% entitlement.Unable to get a convincing response in time from the BCCI, whose “decision making” it called “unilateral, arbitrary, mysterious and leisurely”, the MPCA refused to signed the mandatory venue agreement and also told the board it was in no position to host the match.ESPNcricinfo understands former BCCI and MPCA secretary Sanjay Jagdale attempted to play the mediator’s role this week, asking Milind Kanmadikar, the MPCA secretary, to meet BCCI CEO Rahul Johri to sort out the issue. But Kanmadikar remained unconvinced and opted to wait for the BCCI’s final decision.According to an MPCA official, the BCCI, in its last communication to the state association on September 29, stated that the venue needed to adhere to the 10% entitlement for each category while making the remaining 90% of the tickets available for the public. While the MPCA has blamed the BCCI for asking for more tickets than the 10% limit, the state body does not want any cap on the distribution of complimentary tickets, because it needs to cater to the demands of its own patrons, members and government officials.Although shifting the match out of Indore may have temporarily resolved the dispute, the BCCI’s troubles are far from over. The MPCA is not the only association to cry foul over the allocation of complimentary tickets. Even the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which is headed by former India captain Sourav Ganguly, has stated that the 10% limit on complimentary tickets is arbitrary. The CAB owns Eden Gardens, which is scheduled to host the first T20I of the West Indies series on November 4.Ganguly warned that the CAB would not “compromise” on the distribution of the complimentary tickets, even if the BCCI wanted to shift the match away from Eden Gardens. “We will have to give the complimentary tickets which we have been giving. We cannot compromise on that,” Ganguly told the .Ganguly said that the MPCA grouse was “legitimate” and pointed out that the CAB distributes almost 30,000 tickets, which is nearly half the capacity of Eden Gardens, as complimentary tickets to various government agencies that play a part in organising an international match. “I cannot go and ask the government agencies, bureaucrats – people who make the match happen – to collect tickets and pay,” he said.Asked if the CAB would be willing to forsake the game if a solution could not be found, Ganguly said he was keeping an open mind. “I don’t know what they (the BCCI) will do. If they want [to take the game away], they can. But we are not going to compromise.”It is understood that the CAB has not sent any communication to the BCCI, but one board official pointed out that state associations ought to understand it is not the board but the staging units that earn the gate receipts. The BCCI is not surprised by Ganguly’s comments, but has said the state associations should have raised the issue of complimentary-ticket allocation in front of the court, when the matter was being heard, if they were so concerned by it. The BCCI, which is currently being overseen by the two-member Committee of Administrators (CoA), has sent a communication to all the state associations recently, pointing out that staging venues would need to make public the distribution of tickets, including the complimentary quota, on their websites.
Manchester United suffered yet another defeat on Wednesday evening against FC Copenhagen, however, the Red Devils may have been hard done by with one of the goals they conceded.
FC Copenhagen 4-3 Man Utd
Erik ten Hag’s side travelled to Denmark in a crucial Champions League group game and things looked to be going to plan after Rasmus Hojlund struck twice early on in his native country.
However, Marcus Rashford was shown a straight red card in the first half, with Copenhagen managing to draw level before the interval. Despite the man advantage, Copenhagen didn’t go ahead and Bruno Fernandes put the Red Devils in front from the penalty spot.
It appeared as if United were on course to record a much-needed victory, however, Copenhagen netted twice late on to secure a dramatic win and leave Ten Hag’s side bottom of Group A. United now have two games left to turn their European fortunes around, with a trip to Galatasaray and a home clash against Bayern Munich remaining.
Possible VAR error in FC Copenhagen vs Man Utd
VAR was needed for a number of decisions throughout the game, however, one goal that wasn’t checked thoroughly was Copenhagen’s first scored by Mohamed Elyounoussi.
As reporter Alex Turk relayed on X, there appeared to be a Copenhagen attacker in front of Andre Onana when Elyounoussi took his shot that ended up in the back of the net to get the hosts back in the game.
“Difference in standards when decisions are for/against United – particularly among these UEFA referees – is borderline sickening. I don't know what the rules are anymore.”
Ten Hag also voiced his frustration at the decision to award the first goal, with Fabrizio Romano sharing the manager’s post-match comments.
“You can see that there’s a player in front of Onana in an offside position on Copenhagen first goal. Not only tonight. We have to deal with many decisions against us in other games.”
The Red Devils are arguably right to feel hard done by when it comes to this goal being allowed to stand, as we have seen earlier this week goals being disallowed for players allegedly obstructing the goalkeeper’s view.
In the Premier League on Monday evening for Tottenham’s match against Chelsea, Moises Caicedo scored from outside the box, only for the flag to go up and a VAR check confirming Nicolas Jackson was obstructing Guglielmo Vicario. That was from distance, so you could say that Vicario still had a good view and time to react, whereas Onana didn’t have much chance with Elyounoussi’s effort from close range.
Things didn’t go in United’s favour with a red card and a penalty being conceded alongside this controversial goal being awarded, but Ten Hag won’t be happy with his side conceding twice late on when they were minutes away from victory.
England fast bowler Mark Wood has dismissed accusations of corruption made in an Al Jazeera investigation as “like the boy who cried wolf”
George Dobell in Colombo22-Oct-2018England fast bowler Mark Wood has dismissed accusations of corruption made in an Al Jazeera investigation as “like the boy who cried wolf”. In a documentary broadcast on Sunday, the channel claimed it had evidence of spot-fixing in 15 international matches between 2011-12, seven involving EnglandWood, who will return to the England side for the final ODI of the series against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday, insisted he did not believe suggestions that England players had been involved and suggested that Al Jazeera had, to date, been rather stronger on sensationalism than substance.”Until Al Jazeera bring out anything concrete, where they name someone or show a piece of evidence, I’m not going to believe what they say,” Wood told Talksport.”They keep saying there’s this and that, but never producing anyone or saying there’s any evidence behind it. It’s a bit like the boy who cried wolf. Until they can produce something that I’m worried about then I don’t take any notice of it.”While Wood’s dismissal of the story is no surprise – he was not involved in the England set-up at the time the alleged incidents occurred and you would hardly expect him to cast doubts over his colleagues – it may be more relevant that he believes it has done nothing to disturb the equilibrium in the squad. Indeed, he said it had not even generated a conversation.”I haven’t spoken to any of the other players about it,” he continued in an interview with the BBC. “It’s not news to me. It had no sort of ‘hit’ to it.”If they came up with concrete evidence or they said a name and they could prove something then I would be a bit more worried. But at the moment they keep making accusations and there’s nothing behind it so I’m not too fussed.”Responding to the claims made by Al Jazeera, the ECB said on Sunday that its own investigations had “cast no doubt on the integrity of any England player, current or former”. The documentary marked the second time in recent months that the channel had broadcast allegations about England players’ involvement in fixing. The ICC has called for Al Jazeera to share evidence that may aid further enquiries.

Leeds United are in a good place in the Championship to put themselves well on course for an immediate return to the top flight. With plenty more football still to come, they could even sneak into the automatic promotion spots ahead of either Leicester City or Ipswich Town in what would be a big success for Daniel Farke.
It's not all good news, however, with the Whites set to suffer yet another departure after bidding farewell to a number of stars during the transfer window. When next summer comes around, reports suggest that they'll be waving goodbye to one particular player, who remains on course to leave.
Leeds United transfer news
Leeds deserve credit for the way that they've managed to transition from the Premier League back in the Championship, having lost the likes of Rodrigo and Tyler Adams. It would have been easy to fall apart before Farke even had the chance to rebuild, but instead, Leeds, under new owners the 49ers Enterprises, welcomed fitting replacements in the form of players such as Joel Piroe, Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon.
It looks as though they'll have to repeat that transfer trick to replace Cody Drameh long-term next summer, with the full-back's contract coming to an end. According to Phil Hay, the defender, currently out on loan with Birmingham City, has no intention to sign a new deal at Elland Road, with the Blues having the option to make a move permanent.
Former Luton loanee Cody Drameh.
Reacting to the news, pundit Carlton Palmer described it to Football League World as a "huge blow" for the Whites.
"Cody Drameh, Leeds United's talented right-back who is currently on loan to Birmingham City, has said he will not sign a new contract.
"The 21-year-old is having a fine season with Birmingham, but he will walk away from Leeds in the summer with the club only receiving compensation and not a fee. This in my opinion will be a huge blow for the club.
"Cody played an integral part in Luton getting promoted to the Premier League last season and has showed great promise – he's still only 21 and seemingly with a bright future ahead of him.
"Leeds could be missing out on a player with the potential to be a considerable asset over the years to come as he continues his development."
"Talented" Drameh set for Leeds United exit
It's a shame for Drameh who has never really shone at Elland Road. The right-back is on course to leave the club on a permanent basis in the summer after making just 10 senior appearances for Leeds, despite impressing whilst on loan at promoted Luton Town last season. Currently on loan at Birmingham City, the 21-year-old has made 12 appearances and even picked up two assists, as he continues to prove those in Yorkshire wrong.

Sending Drameh out on loan once again, Leeds have opted for teenager Archie Gray at right-back this season, with the midfielder turned full-back enjoying a breakthrough campaign. That doesn't mean that his on-loan teammate hasn't been impressing elsewhere, however, as Drameh's stats prove.
