Liverpool: Reds "monster" has seen his value soar 135% in 3 years

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has enjoyed a phenomenal spell on Merseyside as he has won multiple major trophies and instilled an attractive style of football.

Who has played the most games for Klopp at Liverpool?

The German tactician has had a strong core of stars for the majority of his most successful period with the Reds over the last seven or eight seasons.

There are also six players below those five who have played over 200 games for the former Borussia Dortmund manager and one of them is Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, who the boss has played a blinder with since his move to the club in 2018.

How much was Alisson worth at Roma?

At the end of his spell with Italian giants Roma, FootballTransfers placed his Expected Transfer Value (xTV) at €27.5m (£23.5m) after his impressive performances in the Serie A.

The towering titan only spent one season in Italy but made the most of his time there with a string of exceptional displays between the sticks. He averaged an excellent Sofascore rating of 7.13 across 37 league starts as the impressive gem only missed one match all term.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

Alisson saved 80% of the shots on his goal and ended the campaign with 17 clean sheets to his name, whilst the Brazil international's underlying numbers also caught the eye.

Based on the post-shot xG value of the shots against him, the 6 foot 3 giant was expected to concede 35.4 goals. However, he only allowed 28 strikes to fly into his net, and this means that he prevented 7.4 xG more than the average goalkeeper would have been expected to over the course of the season.

How has Alisson performed for Liverpool?

His debut campaign with the Reds was a mixed bag after his move from Roma in the summer of 2018 as the shot-stopper made a number of errors.

The former Internacional star made three distribution mistakes directly leading to a shot for the opposition and three blunders that directly led to a goal for the other team over 38 Premier League matches during the 2018/19 campaign, as per Sofascore.

He did, however, prevent 5.2 more xG than expected based on the post-shot xG of the strikes on his goal, which suggests that the talented ace struggled with the ball at his feet but excelled at stopping shots.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

His shot-stopping regressed during the following campaign, though, as Alisson conceded 2.3 more goals than expected across 29 top-flight appearances as he also made three errors that led to a shot or goal for the opposition.

This led to FootballTransfers dropping his xTV down to €26.9m (£23m) by January of 2020 and some may not have blamed Klopp if he had decided to look for either strong competition for the Brazilian gem or a possible replacement due to this regression.

Instead, the German head coach backed him to continue as his number one and this turned out to be a blinder from him as Alisson turned his form around to become a consistently reliable performer for the Reds.

The former Roma colossus, who journalist Matt Kim once hailed as a "monster", prevented three xG more than expected throughout the 2020/21 campaign and kept ten clean sheets in 33 Premier League matches.

He also immortalised himself in Liverpool folklore as the impressive titan became the first goalkeeper in the club's history to score a goal as he found the back of the net with a stunning header against West Bromwich Albion in the 95th minute of a clash at the end of that term.

Alisson's has maintained a strong level of form since the start of the 2020/21 season as he has prevented 15.7 xG over the last three-and-a-bit Premier League campaigns.

In fact, the £150k-per-week ace has been one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe in recent times. Over the last 365 days, the Reds brute ranks within the top 3% of his positional peers among the Men's Big Five Leagues and European competitions for post-shot xG prevented per 90 (0.20).

He also ranks within the top 6% for defensive actions outside of his penalty area per 90 (two) and this shows that the Brazilian-born talent excels at coming off his line to sweep up the danger in behind his defence. This allows Liverpool to play a high line as they know that they have a goalkeeper who can come out to clear balls that are played into the space between him and the back four.

The experienced ace has also been a consistent performer in the Champions League over the years. He has stopped 11.2 more goals than the average goalkeeper would have been expected to over five European campaigns and 47 outings with the club.

How much is Alisson worth now?

The 30-year-old phenom's superb form over the last few years for the Reds has been taken into account by FootballTransfers as they have placed his current xTV at €63.1m (£54.1m).

This means that his value has soared by roughly 135% since it dropped to €26.9m at the start of 2020, which is a reward for his exceptional displays between the sticks in the Premier League.

Alisson, who has won the top-flight, the Champions League, the League Cup, and the FA Cup with the club, was able to bounce back from his early struggles to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and England.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

The aforementioned statistics prove that he is among the top performers in his position when it comes to sweeping and stopping shots that he is not expected to, which is why the £54.1m-rated giant is so important for Liverpool as he can be a match-winner with his ability to make huge saves.

Therefore, Klopp played a blinder in terms of both his decision to sign Alisson from Roma in 2018 and then by having the confidence to back him during the difficult times at the start of his career at Anfield.

Liverpool have benefitted greatly from the German tactician's faith in the Brazilian star and, hopefully, the club will continue to enjoy his performances on the pitch for many more years to come as he should still have plenty of football left in him at the age of 30.

Southampton: Kyle Walker-Peters drops news on his future amid exit rumours

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters has delivered a definitive update on his future at the club during a new interview following a summer of uncertainty in the Championship.

How old is Kyle Walker-Peters?

The St. Mary’s right-back is 26 years of age and has plied his trade on the south coast for the past three years having permanently joined in 2020 following a successful loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur, via Transfermarkt. To date, he’s made a total of 126 appearances.

England’s former international still has another two years remaining on his contract with Russell Martin’s side, but over the summer, his future was looking extremely uncertain having attracted attention from several high-profile clubs in the Premier League.

Arsenal, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Fulham have all been credited with an interest in the defender over the past couple of months, but with a deal having failed to come to fruition before the deadline on September 1st, he remained in the second tier.

Is Kyle Walker-Peters leaving Southampton?

Speaking to The Daily Echo, Walker-Peters opened up on his future at Southampton amid the interest he received over the summer and shared his stance on a potential exit, whilst commenting on life under Martin. He said:

"Of course, I was aware that there was a lot of interest. I'm not someone who was going to try and force my way out or have things put in the media. That’s not my style.

"I came in and spoke to the manager on day one and I got to work. I worked as hard as I could to learn the gaffer’s new style. I’m really enjoying working with him. My main focus is on Southampton and getting the club back into the Premier League. Hopefully we can do that.

“First and foremost, I love Southampton. With the new gaffer coming in, he was excellent with me. He was excellent with everyone actually. He has implemented his style really well. I’m enjoying it. The focus for myself and everyone in the dressing room is to try and get back into the Premier League."

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters.

How good is Kyle Walker-Peters?

Members of the media have called Walker-Peters a “top-class” full-back, and whilst he’s naturally a defender, he is much extremely good in the attacking aspect of his game having racked up ten goal contributions (seven assists and three goals) since putting pen to paper.

The Edmonton-born talent, who pockets £20k-per-week, also ranks in the 99th percentile for successful take-ons and pass completion, highlighting his desire to dribble past his marker, burst down the flank and link up the play with his teammates in the final third.

Furthermore, Walker-Peters has the ability to operate in four different positions over the pitch, so his versatility is another attribute that makes him a great option for the boss to have at his disposal, and Martin will be hoping to fend off any further interest in January.

Root seeks new ideas to address England's Test stagnation

Shake-up of new-ball options may help end cycle of overseas failure, but England captain realistic about challenge

Andrew McGlashan in Auckland20-Mar-2018The England captain Joe Root hopes his team can “turn a corner” overseas after a dreadful run in Test cricket away from home, when they take on New Zealand over two Tests, starting in Auckland on Thursday.England have lost nine of their last 12 Tests overseas with 4-0 defeats in both India and Australia. When they last toured New Zealand in 2012-13 it came on the back of one of their greatest victories on opposition soil after they overturned India, but since then there has been just one series win in eight on their travels – when they beat South Africa in 2015-16.”It is one of the biggest challenges within that format to try to make sure you can go overseas and adapt well to the conditions and make sure you can get something from the series,” Root said. “I suppose there will be a lot of similarities in terms of the conditions and certain aspects of the cricket here in New Zealand to home. So I think it is a good opportunity for us to try to turn the corner in that respect and make sure we change our recent history outside England.”Root still roots for No.4 role

Joe Root still believes No. 4 is the best position for him in the England Test team. However, James Vince, who struggled in the Ashes, will still be the man to make way at No.3 if the doubts over Ben Stokes’ bowling fitness require England to pick an extra seamer.
Coach Trevor Bayliss has previously said he would like Root at first drop but the captain insisted he has the support of Bayliss in his preference, which could mean Dawid Malan moving up should a new No. 3 be needed.
“He’s been very supportive of me and he wants me to be comfortable as captain and for me to bat where I think I’m going to get the best out of myself, scoring consistently as many runs as possible,” Root said. “Throughout this period I definitely feel that has been at four and I still think that is probably the best place for me to bat within this team.”
While Root’s opposite number in this series, Kane Williamson, will at No. 3, Root can point to the fact that Steven Smith and Virat Kohli are No. 4s.

England are not alone in their travails when they travel, a point Root himself made, but believes that a few new ideas are needed to buck the trend. The first sign of that could come with a change in new-ball partnership with all the indications being that Stuart Broad will move, at least on some occasions, to be first-change having dominated the new-ball role with James Anderson since 2010.”Over the last couple of years our form outside the UK has been quite disappointing so we need to make sure we are doing everything we can to put that right and change things slightly to give us a better chance of being more consistent on different surfaces,” Root said.”You don’t want to detract from your strengths as a team but if we keep doing things as we have done, we’re not necessarily going to get different results. I think it’s just making sure that there’s nothing too radical and so extreme that no-one understands it or gets it within the group, but trying to maximise everyone’s skills in the conditions.”While Root did not completely nail his colours to the mast over Broad’s role – as with the bowler himself, the word ‘flexible’ was used often – it is clearly at the forefront of his mind as he looks to solutions to England’s slipping Test fortunes on the road.”I think this is where we’re looking at doing things slightly differently away from home, and if it is going to swing then we need to maximise that. Having continued pressure from both ends for a longer period of time is something which will definitely be brought to the table if Stuart is first change.”If we keep doing things exactly the same way then we might get exactly the same results. This is one small thing that might make a difference, it might not.”Another difference for Root compared to the Ashes will be the availability of Ben Stokes. Quite how much bowling he will be able to do remains uncertain, but he came through a five-over spell outdoors at Eden Park on Tuesday to follow his indoor stint the day before as he builds up his workload. He is due another five overs on Wednesday.Regardless, he will be back in some capacity and his batting and fielding alone will lift England. “You get three players with Ben and certainly on his day probably the best three players within the side all in one. It is a huge boost to have him coming back into the team,” Root said. “He is such a good character around the dressing-room. When he speaks about the game, he gets everyone’s attention and people listen.”Stokes has been around the team for the best part of a month now and seemed at ease during the one-day series. That was under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy, so this Test series is the first time Root has had him under his charge since the West Indies home series, which was also Stokes’ last first-class cricket at the start of September. Part of Root’s challenge could be knowing how far to stretch Stokes’ workload with the ball.”There’s only so much you can stop him doing. He’s just desperate to play. It’s been a while since he’s had the chance to play red-ball cricket, he’s just so excited and you don’t want to take that out of him. Also, it is really good to see players with that attitude and so desperate to come back in and prove a point and do well.”For Root this is his third series as captain. With Stokes back and the discussions over Broad’s role, there is a sense of him edging the team in a new direction although he was reluctant to paint it as a personal mission.”With the amount of injuries and Ben in the Ashes it has restricted a little bit how I wanted to do things,” he said. “This is the first opportunity I’ve had to do that away from home.”I wouldn’t say I’m using Stuart as an example, I’m just trying to find the best way of making us successful here and maximising our chance of winning. I would hate to go into any series and say this is about me putting my stamp on things. This is about us winning and if we can find a way of doing that then I will have put my stamp on things.”

Injured Kamlesh Nagarkoti ruled out of IPL season

Prasidh Krishna, the Karnataka fast bowler, has replaced him in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad

Prasidh Krishna, the Karnataka seamer, has been called up to the Kolkata Knight Riders squad as a replacement for the injured Kamlesh Nagarkoti. The IPL release confirming the news did not specify the nature of Nagarkoti’s injury, but other media reports have suggested he has injured his foot. The 22-year-old Krishna has played 23 matches for Karnataka, only three of which have been in the T20 format. He has been impressive in 50-overs cricket, with 33 wickets in 19 matches at an average of 21.27 and an economy rate of 4.74, his best performances including a match-winning 3 for 37 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final against Saurashtra in February.Nagarkoti was one of India’s brightest sparks through their victorious Under-19 World Cup campaign earlier this year, picking up nine wickets at 16.33 and clocking speeds in excess of 140kph. His performances enthused Knight Riders enough to spend INR 3.2 crore on him during the IPL player auction.Knight Riders have also brought in Abhishek Nayar as part of their support staff. Franchise CEO Venky Mysore tweeted the news, but did not specify what Nayar’s role would be.Mumbai allrounder Nayar has mentored Dinesh Karthik, Knight Riders’ captain, in the past.

Everton make breakthrough for off-pitch personnel addition

To say that Everton's recruitment in recent years has been poor would be an understatement, having welcomed the likes of Cenk Tosun and Moise Kean, who both failed to add any attacking spark at Goodison Park. It remains to be seen whether their additions in the summer transfer window avoid flop status, too, with Beto, Jack Harrison, and Arnaut Danjuma particularly under pressure but looking positive so far.

Sean Dyche's side have turned a corner recently, putting an end to a winless run of five games in the Premier League by defeating Brentford before knocking Aston Villa out of the Carabao Cup. With a crucial relegation six-pointer against Luton Town up next, too, Everton will hope to make it three consecutive wins, and two in a row in the Premier League.

As they improve on the pitch, those in charge at Goodison Park are also set for improvements off the pitch after reportedly agreeing a deal which should only help them when the January transfer window opens.

What's the latest Everton news?

The investment of 777 Partners should at least ease Everton's financial worries if all goes well, hopefully ensuring funding for their new stadium, and now their attention could turn towards January reinforcements, which could make or break their season.

Getting recruitment right is important for any side, but if a side battling relegation gets things wrong in January, then it is likely to end in at least one season in the Championship. And that's where the addition of Phil Boardman could boost Everton's survival chances.

According to Football Insider, the Toffees have reached an agreement with Portsmouth to sign their recruitment chief, with an eye on avoiding any further transfer flops when it comes to January reinforcements. Boardman will be boosted by the fact that he previously worked with Everton's director of football, Kevin Thelwell at Wolverhampton Wanderers, which should make the transition fairly seamless.

Who is Phil Boardman?

Arriving at Portsmouth in 2017, Boardman has helped the League One club welcome a number of signings, including in the summer just gone, which saw them welcome several players on free deals, avoiding a single transfer fee to highlight how smart Boardman can be. And, so far, those signings have worked out, with his club sitting top of the league.

Everton will hope that the chief of recruitment can bring his quality in abundance to Goodison Park, where he will be tasked with putting an end to what has been an endless stream of transfers to forget. If he does ensure that Everton's January recruitment turns their fortunes around, then Boardman may well go down as their smartest addition of the season.

He will have some task on his hands, that's for sure, but Dyche could certainly do with the reinforcements when the winter transfer window opens. Backed by the investment of 777 Partners, too, those at Goodison Park may have an adequate transfer budget to play with.

For now, whilst improvements are made off the pitch, Dyche's focus will be on mounting a consistent run of form at Everton, and guiding them further and further away from relegation trouble.

Assim, o zagueiro e o meia serão desfalques do Rubro-Negro no jogo diante do Atlético-GO, pela 21ª rodada do Brasileiro.

OUTRA DUPLA DO FLA É CITADA
