Australia and Bangladesh are at odds over the timing and format of the tour tentatively scheduled for later this year after the previously planned visit by Steven Smiths’ team was scuppered due to security concerns. While the Future Tours Programme has Australia visiting Bangladesh in July for two Test matches as per the original 2015 plan, it has been reported that Cricket Australia (CA) suggested changing the tour to an ODI-based visit ahead of the limited-overs tour of India scheduled for October before the home Ashes summer. However the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is believed to have relayed to CA its preference for the tour to remain as originally mapped out, partly because the national team is presently in arguably the richest vein of Test-match form in its history, having registered wins over England and Sri Lanka in recent months.Among Bangladesh’s other reasons for maintaining the tour’s current place is that they have other proposed tours that clash with CA’s plan. Bangladesh are set to play Pakistan in July and August, before touring South Africa from mid-September to late October. The Australian proposal would by contrast maintain consistency for Smith’s team in the wake of the Champions Trophy in England. It would also allow for the selection of a limited overs-specific squad that would in turn offer the opportunity for numerous Test players to play a full Sheffield Shield schedule at home leading into the Ashes.CA and the players also need to consider rolling security assessments for Australian nationals in Bangladesh; previously, the Australian government’s travel-advice website had warned that Australians were subject to a specific threat in Bangladesh, leading to the cancellation of the 2015 tour. The current travel advice for Australians visiting the region is to “reconsider your need to travel” in light of “reliable information to suggest that militants may be planning to target Western interests in Bangladesh”. A CA spokesperson said security remained a primary concern.”We are still hopeful of touring Bangladesh in the near future but the safety of players and officials will always come first,” he said. “We will continue to monitor advice from the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and our own security advisors about the security risk for any future tours of the Australian team in Bangladesh and make a decision based on this advice closer to any potential tour.”Discussions between CA and the BCB are ongoing.

Expectation and trepidation as Ireland head to Lord's

Ireland head to Lord’s looking to atone for a heavy beating in their first ODI on English soil

‘We can’t play like that at this level’ – Porterfield

Big pictureWith apologies to the County Ground at Bristol, enthusiastic hosts of Ireland’s (somewhat underwhelming) first ODI on English soil, this is the big one. A maiden international fixture against England at Lord’s – with its Long Room, honours boards, and anticipated 22,000 crowd – is the occasion that Ireland’s cricketers have been dreaming about for a decade. It’s a staging post like few others in a team’s journey up the pecking order (notwithstanding that Ireland played there against Sri Lanka during the 2009 World T20), replete with the sort of memories that cannot help but inspire any visiting side – Ireland might, for instance, take inspiration from Sri Lanka’s maiden Test appearance on the venerable old ground in 1984, when Sidath Wettimuny and Duleep Mendis ignited their country’s imagination with a brace of glowing hundreds.Or, in a nod to their shared ancestry, Ireland’s players might take a look up at the ranks of Australian names etched on the dressing-room walls, and remind themselves of how England failed to beat their oldest enemy in a Test match on this ground for a full 75 years between 1934 and 2009.However, for many of the players in Ireland’s ranks, the allure of playing at Lord’s stems from the familiarity that it offers, as much as the mystique. Tim Murtagh, their senior seamer, was a mainstay of Middlesex’s Championship-winning side, while Paul Stirling is another to ply his more regular trade at Lord’s. Andy Balbirnie was on their books for a while, while Ed Joyce was another central figure until his migration down to Hove.Having fluffed their lines rather chronically in Bristol, Lord’s offers home comforts for half the team, bucket-list allure for the remainder, and a chance to relaunch their England expedition for the whole. As William Porterfield, their captain, said in the aftermath of defeat: “You have to be able to get fired up for a game at the Home of Cricket.”None of the above, however, makes their challenge any less forbidding. As their senior players had been gently telegraphing in the lead-up to the tour, this is not a comfortable time for Ireland’s creaking squad, and the crushing manner in which England put them in their place on Friday was every bit as emphatic as the doom-mongers had been anticipating. From an England perspective, the only real disappointment about their seven-wicket win was the lack of game-time that it afforded to their hungry squad. Their bowlers enjoyed a decent run-out, not least the impressive Mark Wood and destructive Adil Rashid, but the batting was a cakewalk, albeit that Jason Roy failed to atone for his fallow workload at the IPL with a first-over duck.Joe Root and Alex Hales made such light work of a nominal target of 127 that, for all Eoin Morgan claimed he would have bowled first given the choice, you wonder if he’d rather take first use on Sunday, just to ensure the match has to go a longer distance. These are, however, Good Problems To Have™. Ireland, on the other hand, are the ones with the challenge of rustling up a response. There’s no better venue to find one than Lord’s.Defeat in Bristol provided a chastening experience for Ireland’s players•Getty Images

Form guideEngland WWWWW (last five completed matches, most recent first)
Ireland LLWWLIn the spotlightWith his reinforced bowling boot, and burgeoning confidence following a successful reintroduction to the England team on Friday, all eyes will be on Mark Wood as he attempts to back up his exertions with another telling performance. Although he was required to bowl just six overs at Bristol, it was notable how Wood grew into his spell, as he cranked up his speed and hostility with every new delivery. No one doubts Wood’s ability, or his importance to England both in this summer’s hunt for trophies and in the winter’s bid to retain the Ashes. Unfortunately, his susceptibility to injury is very much part of the package he offers. The challenge of coming through two internationals in the space of three days will be a vital indication of his readiness to lead the line at the Champions Trophy. For a fleeting five-and-a-half overs of the opening ODI, Ireland seemed to have settled into a very promising rhythm. They were 40 without loss and looking set for many more, when Paul Stirling gave himself too much room and was bowled by Wood to open the Irish floodgates. His 20 from 18 balls was a typically frustrating return from a player with talent to burn, but whose shot selection isn’t always as adept as his eye. Nevertheless, he is one of several Ireland players with intimate knowledge of the next venue – in fact, only last week, he clattered 71 from 60 balls as Middlesex racked up 341 for 5 against Sussex. What is more, he is the holder of the highest ODI score by a European batsman – his 177 against Canada in 2010. When he gets in, he has the ability to stay in.Team newsIf Rashid was a slight surprise as England’s solitary spinner in Bristol, he more than justified his selection with five skilfully worked wickets, as Ireland’s blind spot for legspin was ruthlessly exploited once again. Morgan had justified Rashid’s selection ahead of Moeen Ali by pointing out his ability to turn the ball both ways, which made him a more versatile weapon for the short boundaries in the first ODI. That aspect is less applicable at Lord’s, but he surely won’t be left out now.England: (probable) 1 Jason Roy, 2 Alex Hales, 3 Joe Root, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Jonny Bairstow, 6 Sam Billings, 7 Adil Rashid, 8 David Willey, 9 Liam Plunkett, 10 Jake Ball, 11 Mark WoodIreland played the extra batsman at Bristol, but that didn’t exactly pay dividends, as they crumbled to 126 all out in 33 overs. The question is whether to stick or twist – keep the same balance in the hope that they’ll come up with the goods now that they’ve got their stage fright out of the way, or reinforce their bowling in a bid to rein in England’s ambitions. They may be forced into a change, with John Anderson added to the squad as cover for Niall O’Brien, who has a finger injury. Though Peter Chase provided a crumb of comfort with all three wickets at Bristol, it’s hard to see England’s batting line-up easing off the accelerator as they head for their most familiar venue. Ireland will simply have to keep up.Ireland: (probable) 1 William Porterfield (capt), 2 Paul Stirling, 3 Ed Joyce, 4 Andy Balbirnie, 5 Niall O’Brien (wk), 6 Gary Wilson, 7 Kevin O’Brien, 8 Stuart Thompson, 9 George Dockrell, 10 Tim Murtagh, 11 Peter ChasePitch and conditionsA brighter day is in prospect but cloud cover is still anticipated and that tends to be a more significant factor at Lord’s than the pitch, which is invariably flat and run-laden.Stats and trivia England have had a mixed record in their recent ODIs at Lord’s. In their last 12 matches dating back to 2009, they have won just three, although that does include their most recent, a four-wicket win against Pakistan last August. Kevin O’Brien, who did not bowl in Bristol, but claimed seven wickets in his previous two ODIs against Afghanistan, needs three more to reach 100 ODI wickets. Joe Root, who finished unbeaten on 49 at Bristol, has scored 240 runs for once out in his last three ODIs, following scores of 90* and 101 against West Indies in Antigua in March.Quotes”You don’t become bad players overnight. It was one bad game, one bad day at the office.”
“It was probably up there – I’ve had a couple of other performances as well. I hope I can now carry it on into the summer.”

Man Utd: Ten Hag Could Forget About Henderson With £15k-p/w Titan

Manchester United look set to overhaul their goalkeeping department this summer. David de Gea has departed the Old Trafford side following 12 years at the club, while Inter Milan sensation Andre Onana has now arrived.

The future of Dean Henderson appears to be away from United, with Nottingham Forest keen on signing him permanently and this could happen once Onana arrives. Erik ten Hag could therefore be lacking in options between the posts next season, and he could alleviate this problem by signing Yassine Bounou.

Will Manchester United sign Yassine Bounou?

According to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Ten Hag is keen on luring Bounou, more commonly known as Bono, to the Red Devils ahead of next season.

The report claims that a move would be ‘difficult, but not impossible’ and if United were to lose Henderson to Forest, the Dutchman would have to double his efforts to bring another ‘keeper into the squad.

The £15k-per-week titan has two years left on his current deal and Sevilla won't want to lose him cheaply, indicating that United would have to stump up a decent fee in order to sign him during the transfer window.

How good is Yassine Bounou?

Since emerging through the academy, Henderson has made a grand total of 29 senior appearances for United, with the majority of them coming during the 2020/21 season, where he played 25 times.

Talented as he is, given the fact he has already earned a cap for England, making his debut against Ireland three years ago, Ten Hag could soon forget about him with a move for Bono in the coming weeks.

The Canadian-born Moroccan international has enjoyed his greatest success at Sevilla, winning two Europa League titles during his four seasons in Spain. He has also kept 58 clean sheets in 140 matches.

Although not among the very elite across the continent, Bounou could certainly fit Ten Hag’s tactical philosophy of playing out effectively from the back as he ranks in the top 17% across Europe’s big five leagues for touches per 90 (41.8), suggesting that he is comfortable on the ball and is trusted during games to begin attacks from the back.

The 32-year-old became a household name during the 2022 World Cup as Morocco became the first African team to reach the semifinals of the competition.

Across seven matches at the tournament, he kept three clean sheets and succeeded with 100% of his run-outs, keeping his best performance for the last 16 tie against Spain.

The 6 foot 2 colossus made two saves in the penalty shootout after the game finished 0-0 and became an instant hero, with compatriot Romain Saiss praising him following the match, saying:

"It is amazing for him. He had a heroic game today, not only during the penalties. He just wanted to show why he was named the best La Liga goalkeeper last season. He is a great keeper, he proved it against Spain. We owe him a lot today."

Shining on the world stage should allow him to settle in well at United, and given his impressive performances for both club and country, he could certainly allow Ten Hag to forget all about Henderson.

Malan debut onslaught sets up England series win

An impressive debut from Dawid Malan helped England seal the T20 series over South Africa with a 19-run victory at Cardiff

The Report by George Dobell in Cardiff25-Jun-2017
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsMason Crane was overjoyed at claiming AB de Villiers as a maiden international wicket•Getty Images

An impressive debut from Dawid Malan helped England seal the T20 series over South Africa with a 19-run victory at Cardiff.Malan, the fourth England debutant in the series, contributed a classy 78 to help his new team cope with the absence of their captain, Eoin Morgan, and take the three-match series 2-1.Morgan had decided to leave himself out in order to provide another opportunity for England to take a look at some of their fringe players. Specifically, he said they were keen to provide another game for Liam Livingstone, who endured a nervous debut at Taunton. And while some ticket-holders were upset at the lack of star players in the England side – Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali were among those to be rested for this series, while Jonny Bairstow had returned to Yorkshire to prepare for the day-night Championship fixtures starting on Monday – Morgan’s decision might have helped England build some depth ahead of a typically relentless winter schedule during which resources will be stretched.Malan, in particular, took advantage in a strikingly assured performance. Having left his first ball outside off stump, he pulled his second – from the distinctly sharp Morne Morkel – for six to kick-start an innings that displayed timing, power and an ability to improvise. It was, by some distance, the highest score by an England player on T20I debut. He was not the only new-ish player to impress. Mason Crane, back in the side after making his debut in Southampton, survived an early assault at the hands of AB de Villiers in a display that hinted at a wonderfully calm temperament. At one stage, de Villiers, who was playing his final match of the tour, swept Crane for 16 in three balls – two sixes and a four – but the young legspinner retained his nerve and his flight and, by the end of the over, had de Villiers well held by Alex Hales on the square-leg fence as he attempted a repeat. Crane, whose celebrations of his maiden international wicket were something to behold, finished his spell by conceding just two from his final over.”He handled it really well,” de Villiers said of Crane afterwards. “He was always the one to get after, but he stuck to his guns. Well played to him.”Livingstone, however, was unable to take advantage of his second outing. He would have been the man to miss out had Morgan played, and might have wished he had after falling first ball as he went across his stumps and attempted to scoop over the leg side. There was also no debut for Craig Overton. Despite England having intimated that all their new faces would win an opportunity at some point during the series, Overton – who was declared fully sit – was not utilised. It left Somerset’s director of cricket, Matt Maynard, unimpressed. He tweeted that he was “gutted” for Overton and then added “#brokenword”.”We couldn’t get him in today,” Morgan said. “We wanted to retain our seamers from the second game who bowled well. Craig is aware and all is fine.”Perhaps, had England failed to win, they would have been criticised for their decision to rotate to the extent they did. But with impressive performances over the series from the likes of Malan, Crane, Bairstow and Tom Curran, who again looked to have the skills and temperament to thrive at this level, England will feel it was a worthwhile experiment. It is probably also fair to suggest that, while both sides would have wanted to win this game, it was hardly the most meaningful confrontation either has played even this month. The calls for greater context for such matches are certain to increase.”We recognise the series as a big opportunity to have a look at a younger group of players,” Eoin Morgan told Sky Sports. “It’s an important part of our development and our success in 50-over cricket and T20 has been down to the strength in depth we’ve had in the side. We’ve always had a lot of competition in the playing XI.”Ideally, I would play, yes. Given the rotation system that we have had in the past, it’s unfortunate. If it was a case where I could go on and captain, I would. But this is an important part of our development for this series. You have to look to the long-term.”Besides, Malan looked every inch an international-quality player. British-born but raised in South Africa, his debut has come relatively late – he is aged 29 – but he has put himself at the head of the queue of those pressing for places. Here he added 105 in 63 balls with Hales, who survived a simple chance to Andile Phehlukwayo on 10, bringing up his fifty with a beautifully-played scoop to the boundary off Imran Tahir, while a driven straight six off Morkel also caught the eye.South Africa’s fielding was oddly fallible, though. De Villiers reckoned they “gave away around 20 runs” which, considering the margin of defeat, was crucial. “We let ourselves down in the field,” he said.Once the pair were parted, England fell away against some excellent death bowling from South Africa. England managed only 54 from the final 39 balls of their innings, culminating in a spell where they lost five wickets for 14 runs from 13 balls against Dane Paterson, who was twice on a hat-trick, and Phehlukwayo. But only for a moment, when de Villiers was partnered by JJ Smuts, did it appear South Africa might get close. With Liam Plunkett again bowling at sharp pace and gaining some assistance for his back-of-a-length bowling from the River Taff End, South Africa subsided to 91 for 6 in the 14th over.Phehlukwayo and Mangaliso Mosehle narrowed the margin with some impressive strokeplay – Willey was plundered for 34 from his final couple of overs – but once de Villiers had gone, there was only ever likely to be one result.

Romano Gives Henderson Update

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has agreed to a "three-year contract" with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq that will see the Reds earn £12m.

However, no announcement has been made because the clubs are "still checking all the documents", per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

Is Jordan Henderson leaving Liverpool this summer?

After enduring a disappointing season by their own high standards last year and missing out on Champions League football, Liverpool have been undergoing something of a squad overhaul so far this summer.

The midfield has already seen the introduction of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister and Hungary international Dominik Szoboszlai, while the likes of Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all left.

Moreover, those are just the confirmed departures. Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has been heavily touted for a move to Saudi Arabia this summer as Al-Ittihad are said to have had a £40m bid accepted by the Reds, per Sky Sports.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson.

Then there's the club captain, Henderson, who, just like his Brazilian counterpart, looks to be on his way to the Middle East this summer, as according to transfers expert Romano, the deal between the clubs and player is agreed and it is just a matter of paperwork before it is announced to the world.

He explained the situation on his YouTube channel, saying:

"The feeling is that the deal is almost done. We said, 'here we go,' and we can confirm the agreement between Jordan Henderson and Al-Ettifaq, the team trained by Steven Gerrard. [It is a] three-year contract.

"So Henderson said yes, but now also the clubs have an agreement – we said that 24 hours ago – it's for £12m fee plus add-ons. These are the terms of the agreement for Jordan Henderson to join Al-Ettifaq.

"I'm told that they are still checking all the documents, so it could take some days to sign the deal and see Henderson in an Al-Ettifaq shirt, but the deal is done."

Who else are Liverpool linked with this summer?

With so many midfielders either out the door already or on the way out, it's hardly surprising to see the club linked to so many midfielders as potential replacements, with one of the strongest links this summer being to 19-year-old Southampton wonderkid Romeo Lavia.

The Belgium international has been courting the interest of several top Premier League sides this summer such as Arsenal and Chelsea, but according to Football Insider, it's Liverpool that are closing in on a deal for the youngster.

The publication states that the Merseysiders have remained in contact with the south coast club and are hopeful they can agree on a deal to see him join Jurgen Klopp's rebuild 'by the end of the month'.

romeo-lavia-transfer-gossip-arsenal-southampton-edu-arteta-jurrien-timber

Interestingly, another star name that has been attached to Liverpool following the outflow of midfield talent over the last couple of weeks is Brighton & Hove Albion star and Chelsea target Moises Caicedo.

According to TalkSport, the six-time European champions 'will consider' joining the race for the Ecuadorian star should they lose both Henderson and Fabinho, and considering the developments with those two players, this is a move that could conceivably happen.

The Seagulls star has been the subject of two failed bids from the Blues already this summer – the second being worth £70m – so it would likely require a record transfer fee to bring the 21-year-old to the north-west, but stranger things have happened.

Whoever Liverpool end up selling and signing this summer, the team fans go to watch on 13th August is likely to be very different to the one they saw on the final day of the season.

Liverpool Eyeing £34m "Mountain" Alongside Lavia

Liverpool are still interested in signing Torino defender Perr Schuurs and appear to have held talks over a potential move.

What’s the latest Liverpool transfer news?

Preparations are being made at Anfield ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, with two new midfielders already brought in for Jurgen Klopp.

Deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been completed, with the pair signing from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively at a combined cost of €112m (£96m).

However, there have been more midfielders leave Merseyside than arrive. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita all left on free transfers when their contracts expired and Jordan Henderson has now departed to join Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia.

Fabinho could be the next to move on, which has led to Liverpool looking at a move for another midfielder in Southampton’s Romeo Lavia. An opening £40m offer has been turned down by the Saints, however, it is “increasingly likely that a compromise will be reached”, according to James Pearce, with anew bidbeing prepared.

Alongside Lavia, it appears as if the Reds, and by extension owners FSG and sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, also have their eyes on signing a new defender before the September 1 deadline.

Schuurs has been linked with a move to Merseyside, with speculation first emerging back in 2020, and the player is reportedly happy to join the Reds, with more news emerging in the last 48 hours.

Sport Witness relayed an update from Toro.it regarding Schuurs. Liverpool and Crystal Palace were named with an interest in the defender, however, negotiations have frozen due to Torino’s €40m (£34m) asking price, implying that talks have been held between the Italian side and those at Anfield.

The two Premier League sides don’t plan to give up on a potential deal, though, with Klopp identifying Schuurs to possibly play alongside fellow countryman Virgil van Dijk going forward.

perr-schuurs-ajax-premier-league-liverpool-transfers

Who is Perr Schuurs?

Schuurs is 23 years of age and is an out-and-out centre-back who is sponsored by Nike. He began his career in Fortuna Sittard’s academy before moving to Ajax in 2018. Schuurs made 95 senior appearances for the Eredivisie giants before going on to sign for Torino last summer.

Since then, the defender has been a regular in Italy, turning out on 33 occasions during the previous campaign, averaging more tackles and clearance per 90 than any of his teammates, as per WhoScored.

Journalist Josh Bunting described Schuurs as a “mountain" last year, and it looks as if he is at the peak of his powers with a career-high €25m Transfermarkt valuation.

Klopp currently has five senior centre-back options to choose from in Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Nathaniel Phillips, although the latter of the five has been linked with an exit.

Therefore, should one or two centre-backs leave Merseyside over the coming weeks, Schuurs could be viewed as a solid replacement, and it appears as if a deal could be one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.
