Arsenal are reportedly interested in Fenerbahce ace Arda Guler, as Mikel Arteta bids to bolster his squad this summer following a title-challenging season.
The talk of the Gunners’ transfer window so far has focused on the future of Declan Rice, however, Edu could be eyeing more than just one midfield upgrade ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
With Champions League football confirmed for next term, it’s integral that the north Londoners introduced reinforcements to remain on Manchester City’s tails and produce a fight among Europe’s greatest.
Hailed as the ‘Turkish Messi’ by local media in Turkey, relayed by talkSPORT, Arsenal could land a generational talent in Guler, with the Gunners leading the race according to Football Insider.
Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke claimed via the site that Arsenal had leapfrogged fellow Premier League side Newcastle United in the bid to secure the teenager's signature, adding that Arteta’s side are ‘seriously exploring’ a deal.
The 18-year-old penned a new deal with the Turkish giants last year, with a release clause of just €17.5m (£15m) included.
What could Arda Guler offer to Arsenal?
In 20 total appearances in the Super Lig this season, Guler has shone playing among seasoned professionals in Turkey at just 18 years of age.
In his breakthrough campaign, the Ankara-born gem contributed to seven goals, scoring four and assisting three in playing an average of 46 minutes per game, as per Sofascore.
Hailed as “magical” by members of the media, the teenager could blossom under the guidance of Arteta, who has thrived in nurturing his young side that went toe-to-toe with treble winners Manchester City last season.
While Guler was the standout performer for his side last term, as per Sofascore, Arsenal’s skipper Martin Odegaard was a dominant influence on the Gunners, as highlighted by being named the club’s player of the season.
Playing in the same role as the Norwegian, Arteta could teach the Turkish superstar a valuable lesson in the art of playing in the Premier League, potentially even unearthing his next version of Odegaard in the process.

There is evidence to suggest that the duo could form a formidable force in midfield, attributable to their creative exploits in their respective campaigns, with the 24-year-old skipper averaging 2.1 key passes per game, a rate almost identical to the Fenerbahce ace’s two.
Learning the ropes at Real Madrid at the tender age of 16, Arsenal’s captain could be the perfect mentor for the teenager with his fellow left-fotter in Guler breaking through at a similar age. However, the youngster could also return the favour by aiding the £120k-per-week wizard's game.
Lauded a “sensation” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, the teenager could give Odegaard added creative freedom as conveyed through his assured presence on the ball.
As per Sofascore, Guler maintained a stellar pass completion rate of 85%, while creating seven big chances in his debut season in the Super Lig.
The two talents could fuse to bolster each other's game, for the greater good of the Gunners who could see their attacking midfield set for years to come.

India began the Super Sixes stage of the Women’s World Cup Qualifier with a comfortable 49-run win against South Africa in Colombo. Mithali Raj and Mona Meshram struck fifties to propel India’s score to 205. In reply, South Africa were bowled out for 156 as fast bowler Shikha Pandey and left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht combined for seven wickets. After India were inserted, opener Deepti Sharma was dismissed in the 12th over for 9 off 38 balls. Meshram and Raj then shared a 96-run stand to set a platform for the end overs. South Africa ensured they kept India in control by picking up regular wickets. India managed to score just 93 runs in the final 20 overs. South Africa were quickly reduced to 8 for 2 in the fifth over, and were always behind the asking rate thereon. Trisha Chetty top-scored with an 81-ball 52. Pandey returned figures of 4 for 34.Eshani Lokusuriyage’s 65 and contributions from the top order ensured Sri Lanka cruised past the target of 213 against Pakistan with five wickets in hand and 14 balls to spare. Nipuni Hansika (37) and Chamari Atapattu (35) set the tone with a 75-run opening stand, before Pakistan hit back with three wickets in the space of eight overs. Prasadani Weerakkody struck 45 off 71 balls and shared an 88-run partnership with Lokusuriyage.Pakistan were helped along to 212 with fifties from Nahida Khan (64) and Javeria Khan (63). The pair shared a 119-run stand off 171 balls. Pakistan, too, lost a cluster of wickets in the end overs, stalling the momentum from the innings. Bangladesh Women skittled Ireland Women for 144 and cruised to a seven-wicket win in their first Super Six match at the Colombo Cricket Ground.Jahanara Alam led the way with figures of 3 for 21 after Bangladesh inserted Ireland. She removed Cecelia Joyce and Kim Garth in successive overs to reduce Ireland to 15 for 2 inside nine overs. Panna Ghosh, Rumana Ahmed, Khadija Tul Kubra proceeded to make further inroads into the Ireland line-up. Salma Khatun was also among the wickets as Ireland were bowled out in 47.1 overs. Their major source of resistance came from Clare Shillington and captain Laura Delany, who struck 37 each. Apart from them, only Isobel Joyce passed 20.The Sharmins – Sultana and Akhter – gave Bangladesh a solid start in their chase with a 40-run partnership. The stand ended when Gaby Lewis got rid of Sultana for 22 at the end of the 15th over. Sanjida Islam then fell cheaply, but Akhter ate into target with a half-century before exiting in the 30th over. Fargana Hoque and Rumana eventually sealed the win in the 40th over with an unbroken 39-run stand.
Celtic reportedly have an interest in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
What’s the latest Celtic transfer news?
The Hoops look set to back Brendan Rodgers in the transfer market following his return as manager, with up to £30m available to the Northern Irishman over the coming months ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Celtic’s finances were handed a boost after Jota completed a move to Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad in a deal worth £25m.
There have been incomings, though, with two players already through the door in Glasgow. Odin Thiago Holm has arrived from Eliteserien club Valerenga on a five-year contract, and Australian winger Marco Tilio has also penned a five-year deal, signing from Melbourne City.
There could be more to come, though, with Gangwon FC for forward Yang Hyun-jun a firm target and a £2.1m offer seemingly accepted. Former defender Kieran Tierney has been linked with a sensational return to Glasgow, and another Scot in McTominay has also been linked.
Football Scotland have claimed that with McTominay potentially up for sale this summer, Celtic and Rodgers have been listed as an interested party. Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson labelled the player as a “star” for Scotland but admitted that finances over a fee and wages could be an issue over any possible Parkhead move.
“When was the last player you heard who took a wage cut to move? There is very few of them.
"If you are tempting a player away from a club like Manchester United it is probably the opposite and you are giving them a few extra quid, and maybe the opportunity to play at the same level and with Champions League football. McTominay is a difficult one.
"I really like him and for Scotland he has been a star. He has that composure and he has played at a certain level where I think he would fit into the side. It's one, transfer fee and two, the wage – that is what it all comes down to."
Man United's Scott McTominay
Is Scott McTominay leaving Man United?
There could well be a clear-out at Old Trafford this summer, with up to 13 players reportedly up for sale, including McTominay. The central midfielder has progressed through United’s academy and has made 209 senior appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.
However, he started just 10 Premier League games under Erik ten Hag last season and is out of contract in 2025, so could well be on the move over the coming months.
A move to Celtic has been mooted, although United’s reported £40m asking price could price the Hoops out of a move, especially when you consider their record arrival is Odsonne Edouard at €11.5m.
McTominay could be a shrewd signing for Rodgers and Celtic due to his experience at the highest level alongside his versatility of being able to turn out as a holding or central midfielder and even as a centre-back. But his price tag and £60,000-a-week wage could be a problem, as Wilson mentions, so a transfer could be unlikely.

Warriors thumped Dolphins by 130 runs in Port Elizabeth, stopping them from building a lead at the top of the table. No. 3 Warriors now have the chance to go top, if they beat No. 2 Titans in their next match on Sunday.Warriors chose to bat and put up 274 for 5 on the back of a century from Colin Ingram. Batting at three, Ingram’s 105 came off 112 balls, and included seven fours and two sixes. Lesiba Ngoepe provided the final surge, pushing the team over 250 with an unbeaten 43 off 26. In their reply, four of Dolphins’ top six got into double digits, but none could get past the 30s. Warriors’ bowlers mostly kept a tight rein on them – five of the seven who bowled went at less than five an over, and four of those were below three to the over – but medium pacer Ayabulela Gqamane was the pick of the lot. He took two top-order wickets and went at 2.57 in his seven overs as Dolphins imploded for 144 in 35.1 overs.Fast bowlers Shadley van Schalkwyk and Mbulelo Budaza set up a 22-run win for Knights against Titans in Benoni. Van Schalkwyk claimed Titans’ top three in their chase of 250, while Budaza took 4 for 43 to polish off the tail. The top scores for Titans came from Nos. 6 and 7 Albie Morkel and David Wiese, who scored 42 and 46 respectively, but that was not enough to take the team home.Knights’ 249 was was built around a 75 from wicketkeeper Rudi Second and a 72 from Leus du Plooy. They did not manage to bat out their 50 overs – they were bowled out in 47.1 – but in the end, that did not cost them.Lions came out top in a closely-fought game with Cape Cobras in a battle of the bottom two teams. They won by three wickets with one ball remaining chasing 245 in Paarl.Cobras were off to a horror start after choosing to bat, falling to 8 for 3 in the fourth over. But four solid middle-order contributions steadied them. Justin Ontong was the was the biggest contributor with 80, while Aviwe Mgijima scored 58 and the two Danes – Vilas and Piedt – scored 42 apiece. Rassie van der Dussen laid the platform for the chase with a dogged 66, and after he got out captain Dominic Hendricks kept the chase going for Lions. Cobras managed to keep breaking through at the other end – especially pacer Lizaad Williams, who took 3 for 31 – but Hendricks did the job. He finished on 91 not out as Lions edged home.
Mohammad Nawaz was oozing confidence after defending six runs in the final over against Peshawar
Osman Samiuddin in Sharjah01-Mar-20170:50
WATCH – Mohammad Nawaz concedes no runs off the last three balls to take Quetta Gladiators to the final
Mohammad Nawaz was having a rough night with the ball in Sharjah. The three overs he had bowled until the 20th had already gone for 46. Excessive dew meant he could barely grip the ball and it hadn’t helped that he was bowling one-over spells. There had been moments of smartness – the key dismissal of Mohammad Hafeez was one, and without the ball the catch to dismiss Shahid Afridi was, in hindsight, the moment the game turned. But he had already conceded four sixes and three fours, thus defending six off this final over, with a two-time World T20I winner on strike, could only produce an unhappy ending.Leaving him, or the rookie left-arm spinner Hasan Khan (3-0-36-0) with the last over, in fact, had seemed like a mistake. And when Tymal Mills’ valiant but unsuccessful effort at short third man off the second ball actually helped the ball along to the boundary, the game was done. Except it wasn’t.Nawaz conceded a single off the next four balls. He dismissed Chris Jordan first, a flatter, quicker delivery that found the edge and which Sarfraz Ahmed did well to hold on to. And then two inch-perfect yorkers in succession forced two run-outs, allowing Quetta to pull off a sensational one-run win – a margin replicating last year’s playoff win over the same opponents.”There was a lot of pressure, the way the ball had been coming on to the bat and how wet it was,” Nawaz told Geo TV. “But our plan was to bowl the first three balls outside off and break it away.”Once the equation came down to two off three, the plan changed. Among others, Kevin Pietersen, playing his last game of the tournament, suggested going for yorkers.”KP said on the fifth ball ‘just bowl a yorker’. It came out perfect. On the last ball a few said bowl length, some said go for the yorker. But we agreed to bowl a yorker and they just came out perfect.”I had a lot going through my mind at the time. But I was also calm, thinking I could do this.”Nawaz was one of the poster boys of the PSL’s first season, the very reason such a league was created in the first place – to bring to the fore young players like him and turn them into big-game players. He was the third-highest wicket-taker last year and his 13 wickets included arguably the ball of the tournament: a delicious, orthodox spinner that undid Brad Hodge, incidentally also in the playoff win over Peshawar.Finding his feet with Pakistan has not been as simple, in any of the formats, even with their desperate search for any kind of allrounder. But bowling an over like this – all of it to international cricketers – can be an important developmental landmark.”Absolutely, this is one of the best overs I have bowled. In such a big match, on this pitch, with so much dew. Especially after that kind of over I can’t help but feel pretty confident.”This is how big players are made, when they perform in big matches like this. This is only the start of my career, but in future I hope to learn more from it and keep performing.”

Arsenal want to "start their efforts" over signing Man City defender Joao Cancelo "shortly", according to reports out of Germany in the last 48 hours.
Who are Arsenal signing?
After officially competing a deal to sign forward Kai Havertz from Chelsea, in a deal worth around £65 million, the Gunners are certainly not resting on their laurels.
It's widely reported that Arsenal are closing in on a deal for West Ham United star Declan Rice, after agreeing to pay a total £105 million fee (£100m + £5m in add-ons) for the England international.
Talks are apparently ongoing over payment structure, but it would appear he is edging closer and closer to north London, while Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is also expected to make the move.
Arsenal are reportedly nearing the capture of both men, with reports suggesting both deals could take their spending over £200 million for this summer transfer window.
The Gunners are tipped to sign a new full-back before the start of 2022/2023 as well, as Galatasary defender Sacha Boey and Cancelo have been repeatedly linked.
The latter player, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich, is reportedly surplus-to-requirement at Man City despite once being a key member of Pep Guardiola's starting eleven.
A report out of Germany has shared the latest on Arsenal's pursuit of Cancelo, with magazine Kicker claiming he is right at the top of Mikel Arteta's wish list.
They apparently see the Portugal international as an "ideal" solution to Arsenal's full-back problems, and wish to commence efforts over his signing "shortly".
Kicker wrote:
"The Londoners, who had good experiences with former Man City pros in the form of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus last season, see him [Cancelo] as the ideal solution on the defensive flank and want to start their efforts for the technically fine footballer shortly."
However, they also add that he may cost a marquee price, with City set to demand a "high" transfer fee given Cancelo's contract length.
What's been said about Joao Cancelo?
The £250,000-per-week defender was indispensable to Guardiola until the last 12 months, as former Blues striker Paul Dickov explained in 2021.
“He’s been outstanding. He’s assisting and scoring goals himself and for me he’s the best full-back, in terms of creating stuff, and how important he is to the team,” Dickov said.
“We’ve got some of the best players in the world in their positions and to not be relying on one player is remarkable. With the ability to finish too, that's unique."
The summer transfer window officially opened for business last month and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been able to make two additions to his squad so far.
Marco Tilio and Odin Thiago Holm have arrived, from Melbourne City and Valerenga respectively, to bolster the head coach's options in midfield.
The Hoops still have until the 1st of September to make further signings ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and strengthening the wide department appears to be on their agenda.
It was reported by the Daily Record last month that the club have been scouting Gwangju winger Ji-sung Eom.
Although, it remains to be seen if they will act upon their interest over the coming weeks.
How good is Ji-sung Eom?
The versatile attacker, who is capable of being deployed on either flank, has been in impressive form over the last 18 months and his performances suggest that the potential is there for him to be an exciting player for Celtic.
At the age of 21, Eom could come in as a long-term prospect for Rodgers rather than someone who would be required to make an immediate impact on the pitch, which could make him the dream heir to James Forrest's position within the squad.
The current Hoops winger turned 32 earlier this month and is now in the final two years of his contract at Parkhead, which could leave the manager to think about what life will look like after the Scotland international moves on.
Signing an heir, in the form of Eom, prior to Forrest's actual departure could be a shrewd move as it would allow the promising South Korean talent to soak up all of the veteran ace's experience to aid his transition to football in Scotland.
The long-serving maestro has racked up 467 first-team appearances during his time in Glasgow to date and, therefore, knows what it takes to consistently perform at the club.
Celtic winger James Forrest.
Forrest averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.94 across 16 Scottish Premiership matches last term – the 18th-highest score within the team. He contributed with four goals and 0.9 key passes per match, with the latter statistic being the 13th-best record among the squad.
Eom, with an average Sofascore rating of 7.01, has scored two goals to go along with two assists in eight K League 1 starts this year, whilst the talented gem has also created 0.9 chances per game – drawing a parallel with the Celtic gem.
However, his form throughout the 2022 K League 2 campaign is what suggests that there is an exciting prospect for Rodgers to unearth.
The 5 foot 10 whiz averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.13 across 29 outings, which is a score only seven Hoops players bettered during the 2022/23 campaign, as he plundered nine goals from out wide.
Meanwhile, only three Celtic stars hit double figures for Premiership goals last season, and one of them – Jota – has since departed to join Al Ittihad.
Eom, who has been described as "underrated" by scout Ali Can Kutlu, has the potential to provide an excellent goal threat from a wide position, whilst also being able to offer a similar level of creativity to Forrest, which is why he could be the dream heir to the Scottish forward under Rodgers.
There is an 11-year gap between the two players and this means that Celtic could invest in the South Korea U22 international to be a part of their long-term plans, with the 21-year-old gem able to be an understudy to the veteran over the next few seasons.
