Everton fans hate links to Smalling and want Maguire instead

Everton fans are fed up with the links to Manchester United “rejects” after Chris Smalling became the latest centre back linked to the Toffees.

If every transfer rumour came true, Everton would be able to field a team of centre backs next season, as just about every central defender in England has been named as a target for the Toffees in the last few weeks.

There’s no smoke without fire though, and Sam Allardyce is certainly on the lookout for reinforcements in the heart of defence.

Michael Keane has shown promise at times but has been largely underwhelming, Ashley Williams has completely lost the fans, and Phil Jagielka will be 36 by the start of next season.

Fans have been discussing the links to several players this morning, after the Mirror claimed both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are targets for Everton.

Jones has once again had an injury hit season, and Smalling hasn’t exactly impressed at Old Trafford either. Reports suggest Jose Mourinho will look to move both players on this summer, but Everton fans are having none of it.

Plenty of fans have suggested Leicester’s Harry Maguire, while many others are just praying it’s not another United reject. Some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…

Everton fans blast Mirallas’ loan spell after strange news

Kevin Mirallas’ loan spell with Olympiakos has gone from bad to worse, and it doesn’t seem like Everton fans are going to welcome the Belgian back with open arms.

Olympiakos president Evangelos Marinakis has fined his side €400,000 and ordered them to go on holiday, after they drew 1-1 with Levandiakos.

Mirallas played 86 minutes in the draw, and the 30 year-old has not exactly found his best form since the loan move to Greece.

The Belgian winger has yet to find the net since his return to the club Everton signed him from back in 2012, and the Greek champions are reportedly not interested in taking him on a permanent deal this summer.

There hasn’t been much to cheer about at Goodison Park this season, as many of last summer’s big money signings have had troubles with form, fitness and injuries. Still, we don’t think there will be too many fans queuing up to bring Mirallas back.

The 30 year-old scored 29 league goals in 151 appearances for Everton, but fans grew tired of his inconsistency.

Liverpool to offer Karius new deal, but will he go back to second choice?

Liverpool are planning to offer Loris Karius a new contract, according to The Sun.

What’s the word?

It was not that long ago when the 24-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements as he struggled for game time.

However, since the turn of the year, Karius has been Jurgen Klopp’s number one and Simon Mignolet has dropped down the pecking order.

As a reward for his performances in between the sticks, Liverpool intend to offer him fresh terms and a pay rise on his £50,000-a-week contract, according to The Sun.

Since becoming first choice, Karius, whose current deal expires in 2021, has kept nine clean sheets in 17 matches in all competitions, and he has been in between the sticks for every Champions League game en route to the semi-finals.

The Sun reports that the manager is still keeping an eye out for a new goalkeeper this summer and is interested in Stoke City’s Jack Butland and Roma stopper Alisson.

Will Karius be demoted next season?

There is no denying that the German has improved due to a run of games as number one, but if a top-class goalkeeper becomes available in the summer, then he will be second string.

Liverpool have proven this season that they are capable of being a force to be reckoned with due to their attacking qualities.

Mohamed Salah, who according to our poll is expected to clinch the Premier League Golden Boot, has been in stellar form this season with 40 goals in all competitions.

Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have also been key to a number of Liverpool victories, while the defence has tightened up due to the January arrival of Virgil van Dijk.

Even though Karius is in decent form, a proven goalkeeper could be the difference between the Reds fighting for top four or challenging for titles next season.

Leeds fans want McCarthy to replace Heckingbottom

Leeds fans are calling for Mick McCarthy after Paul Heckingbottom’s torrid run as Leeds boss continued with a 3-1 loss at Preston North End on Tuesday night.

Mick McCarthy announced his immediate departure and stormed out of his press conference after Ipswich’s win over Barnsley on Tuesday, and Leeds fans are hoping their club jumps at the opportunity to replace Paul Heckingbottom.

Heckingbottom has just two wins to his name since taking over in February, and supporters are growing tired of his endless excuses and frankly boring demeanor.

The ex-Barnsley man was furious with the referees in Tuesday’s loss to Preston, as Pontus Jansson appeared to be down with a head injury as Sean Maguire headed in Preston’s second.

While Heckingbottom may be the victim of a poor squad at Leeds, McCarthy has done an excellent job at Ipswich on limited resources in a difficult situation.

The 59 year-old has won more games than he’s lost since taking over in 2012, and has solidified the club as a steady mid-table side.

Leeds fans are hoping owner Andrea Radrizzani seizes the opportunity to upgrade on Heckingbottom, and some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…

Hernandez should not be first choice for Newcastle

According to Uruguayan outlet Ovacion, Newcastle will revive their interest in Hull City striker Abel Hernandez this summer.

What’s the story?

Uruguayan international Abel Hernandez is out of contract at Hull this summer, and Rafael Benitez reportedly wants to bring him back to the Premier League on a free signing.

The speedy striker missed most of this season with an Achilles tendon injury, but has been in fine form since his return, firing in eight goals in ten league appearances this season.

Islam Slimani is expected to return to Leicester City as things stand, meaning the Magpies desperately need a new striker on Tyneside, but is Hernandez the answer?

[ad_pod ]

A bargain buy?

With Slimani looking likely to return from his loan after failing to impress and Aleksandar Mitrovic seemingly at odds with Rafa Benitez despite his fantastic Fulham form, Newcastle definitely need to sign a striker this summer.

Hernandez is fast, smart, and has Premier League experience, but he is not good enough to fire the Magpies to a top ten finish next season.

The 27 year-old has 11 international goals in 29 Uruguay appearances, but he is not the superstar striker that will excite the fans on Tyneside.

That said, Hernandez would be a quality addition to the squad, and given that he will be available on a free signing he would be a smart buy, so long as he is not first choice.

Fans are fed up of Mike Ashley’s penny-pinching, and going into next season with loan signings, free signings and the struggling Dwight Gayle up front would create a toxic atmosphere at the club if they got off to a bad start.

However, if Benitez can go into next season, with Gayle, Hernandez and a marquee signing as his options up front, then the Magpies could be a real threat to the teams around them.

Everton fans want to give Sandro another chance

Everton fans are desperate to see more of Sandro Ramirez, after the struggling striker put in a man of the match display with his loan club.

When Sandro Ramirez joined Everton last summer, fans were hopeful that they had secured a replacement for Romelu Lukaku’s goals without even spending that much.

Bookmakers had Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah at just 10/11 to outscore the Spaniard last summer, which shows there were some pretty high expectations when he moved to Goodison, although of course no one could have predicted Salah’s ridiculous goalscoring run.

[ad_pod ]

After starting just three Premier League games for the Toffees and scoring just one goal in all competitions, the 22 year-old was loaned out to Sevilla in January.

Though he hasn’t exactly set the world alight for his loan club, he has certainly found his form in recent times, and was crowned the man of the match in Sevilla’s 1-0 win over Real Sociedad last Friday.

Sandro didn’t score or assist, but he made good use of his 42 touches, registering three shots on target, creating two chances and also completing one dribble.

Fans have been debating his future on Twitter, and it seems they all agree he needs another chance under new management.

West Ham fans react as Fonseca signs new deal with Shaktar Donetsk

The search for West Ham United’s new manager seems set to continue after reported target, Paulo Fonseca, signed a new two year contract with his current club, Shaktar Donetsk.

Fonseca has had success managing the Ukrainian side since his arrival in May 2016.

In his first campaign he led the side to a domestic treble and this season he helped Shaktar navigate themselves out of difficult group – that included Manchester City, Napoli, and Feyernoord – to qualify for the Champions League last 16.

The former Braga boss has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Everton as well as in East London and according to reports in the London Evening Standard, Fonseca met with West Ham co-owner David Sullivan earlier this week to discuss the role.

The Hammers are on the hunt for a new manager after David Moyes’s left the club.

After the dismissal, West Ham joint-chairman David Sullivan, issued a statement to supporters.

“We feel that it is right to move in a different direction. We aim to appoint a high-calibre figure who we feel will lead the club into an exciting future for our loyal supporters within the next 10 days.”

Liverpool fans think Lovren is world class following Klopp praise

Dejan Lovren has certainly not had it easy at Liverpool since his move from Southampton in 2014.

The defender has struggled for consistency at the back, and as a result has faced intense criticism from fans.

Nevertheless, the Croatian has soldiered on and now seems to be first-choice centre-back to partner Virgil van Dijk.

The impact that the Dutchman has had since his arrival from Southampton in January should not be downplayed.

[ad_pod ]

The 26-year-old has organised the back line and his confidence has spread throughout the team, particularly Lovren.

Despite his notable improvements, the defender is still prone to mistakes and in recent matches has switched off at times.

However, Lovren will likely get the nod from manager Jurgen Klopp to start alongside Van Dijk in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev on Saturday.

In an interesting interview with Robbie Fowler for The Mirror, Klopp gave a frank assessment of his centre-back, and explained why he substituted him 25 minutes into a clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The German coach went on to say how he regards Lovren as world class.

“I took Dejan off after 25 minutes and I didn’t speak to him afterwards. But then a few days later I saw him waiting for my talk, so I said, come in. ‘You took me off after 20 minutes’. Because you were bad.

“But I said to him – maybe this was the decisive moment when he got it – I think he’s a world class centre half, 100%. Yes with weakness, concentration can happen from time to time, could be harder here, whatever. But he is a world class centre half, otherwise he would not be here any more.”

Liverpool fans have so often been quick to criticise Lovren – valued at £15.3m by Transfermarkt, but it seems that the majority have made a very quick turnaround.

West Ham can gatecrash the Top 6 party next season if they sign Felipe Anderson

According to reports in the Daily Mail, West Ham United have launched an ambitious £35m-plus bid to sign Lazio attacker Felipe Anderson.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Daily Mail says that talks are already underway between the two clubs with the Brazilian, who has played as a winger, attacking midfielder and striker for the Italian side, keen to play in the Premier League under new Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The Daily Mail says that the 25-year-old has been targeted by Chelsea and Manchester United in the past, and has been one of the outstanding performers in Serie A in recent years.

The report adds that the east London club are determined to give Pellegrini a strong base to work from and want to wrap up a number of signings quickly – especially with the 2018 Russia World Cup just around the corner.

How did Anderson do this season?

It was another impressive campaign for the Brazilian, who scored eight goals and provided a further 10 assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for Lazio.

The 25-year-old has 34 goals and 42 assists in 177 outings in total for the Serie A outfit since joining them from Santos in 2013.

According to WhoScored.com, his main strengths are his dribbling ability and his key passes, while he is also effective from a defensive point of view – something that may be important to Pellegrini.

[ad_pod ]

Would he be a good signing for West Ham?

He would be a huge signing for them, and probably the best one since they brought the talented Dimitri Payet to east London.

It would be a big statement to both Pellegrini and the rest of the Premier League that the Irons mean business next season, and his arrival at the London Stadium would suggest the Hammers are ready to not only finish as the best of the rest in the top flight, but also push for a top-six finish – something that may well be achievable seeing as they don’t have any European football as a distraction like their competitors do.

The signing would be exciting for the supporters, who have urged their club to splash out £26m on another 25-year-old star, and he could be a massively influential attacking player alongside the likes of Javier Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic and Manuel Lanzini.

Kenny Miller can be effective for one more season in the Scottish Premiership

As reported by the BBC, former Rangers striker Kenny Miller has revealed that a recent meeting with Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes was just a chance encounter on holiday, cooling speculation he is set for a move to Pittodrie.

What’s the story?

The Scottish Sun had reported last week that Miller had met with the Dons manager in Florida ahead of a potential switch, but the former Scotland international has revealed there was less to it than meets the eye.

As quoted by the BBC, Miller said of the meeting:

It was just a chance encounter, but I have spoken to various people regarding options for next year. I don’t think it is right to start throwing names out there just yet.

I still want to win and I still want to play for a team that can be successful. Speaking to managers and seeing what they see my role being is important as well.

Everybody is back training in that period between 15 and 23 June, so decisions have to be made pretty quickly if I’m going to stay in Scotland.

Miller’s career at Ibrox is over after an acrimonious spat involving Graeme Murty and the side’s defeat to Celtic at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final. His contract expired at the end of the season and he was not offered a new deal.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”252976″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch 21 things that will definitely happen at the World Cup”]

Does he still have enough to quality to shine at Aberdeen?

Miller may not be the player he once was, but he has still scored 40 goals in all competitions over the last three seasons and his trophy winning history could be a great benefit to the ambitious Dons.

A difficult 2017/18 season is now behind him and if he made the move to Pittodrie, he would be very motivated to prove that Rangers were wrong to let him go so easily in such dramatic circumstances.

He will be turning 39 halfway through the season and there is no doubt that he will likely soon make the transition into coaching or management. For one more season though he has a lot to offer most Scottish Premiership teams, including Aberdeen.
