Chelsea Backed To Show Interest In £200k-A-Week Star

Chelsea would "100,000,000%" love to sign Harry Kane in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Is Kane on the move this summer?

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a legendary playing career to date, admittedly not winning any trophies but breaking so many individual records. On Saturday, he scored the only goal in Tottenham's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, meaning he is now second in the all-time Premier League scoring charts, having recently been called "world-class" by Graeme Souness.

Kane's current Spurs deal runs out at the end of next season and it could be that he wants a new challenge this summer, with the north Londoners continuing to struggle. Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Englishman, but Manchester United are also thought to be strong contenders to snap him up.

The Blues are badly in need of a signing an elite striker before the start of next season, with Kai Havertz leading the way with only seven league goals in 2022/202 to date.

Could Chelsea make audacious swoop for Kane?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Sheth was in no doubt that Chelsea would jump at the opportunity to acquire Kane's signature in the summer:

"Would he want him? 100,000,000%, Mauricio Pochettino would want Harry Kane. But we’ve got to look at this from the Tottenham and Harry Kane side. Tottenham do not want to sell Harry Kane."

There is no doubt that Chelsea would surely be ecstatic to sign Kane, but in truth, it is tough to see him choosing them, especially given the rivalry that exists between the Blues and Spurs. Not only that, but the west Londoners can't promise him Champions League football, whereas United look highly likely to be able to.

For that reason, the thought of Kane in a Chelsea shirt has to be considered little more than a pipe dream, as things stand, with United surely the red-hot favourites to snap him. That is assuming he wants to leave Spurs, of course, and Daniel Levy is unlikely to make it easy for his most prized asset to leave the club.

Whoever does potentially sign the £200,000-a-week striker will be getting arguably one of the best attacking players of his generation, with 276 goals in 432 Spurs appearances a stunning return, as well as a record 55 strikes in 82 caps for England. If the Blues suddenly won the race, it could be an absolute game-changer for them moving forward.

Rangers: £5m Gem Could Explode Under Beale Next Season

Glasgow Rangers grabbed bragging rights, albeit only for a week or two, following a 3-0 victory in the Old Firm derby over the weekend.

Michael Beale enjoyed his first win against Celtic in what was his fifth attempt, and it sets the Ibrox side up nicely heading into the summer transfer window, with thoughts turning towards 2023/24.

The last few games of the season have given the manager licence to unleash players who deserve some game time, allowing Beale to judge who should be kept next term and who could be moved on.

Robby McCrorie has kept two clean sheets since taking over from Allan McGregor against Aberdeen last week, and he could well be the number one over the coming years.

Ridvan Yilmaz is another to have been given an opportunity to shine following Borna Barisic’s injury. He started against both the Dons and Celtic, and he certainly didn’t disappoint, offering Beale a glimpse into what the future could hold for the 21-year-old.

Does Ridvan Yilmaz have a future at Rangers?

The Turkey international arrived at Ibrox last summer in a £5m deal from Besiktas with Ross Wilson lavishing praise on him following his arrival, dubbing him “high-quality."

Yet despite his undoubted potential, he barely made a mark at the Light Blues under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, appearing just seven times, and it looked as though it was money down the drain.

A hamstring injury hasn’t helped his cause, ruling him out for a good portion of the season, yet once the Premiership title could no longer be won, Beale looked to give fringe players a chance.

Yilmaz made his first start since March against the Dons in an eventual 1-0 victory, however, it was his assured display against the champions which suggests he could explode next season.

Ridvan Yilmaz

The 21-year-old averaged a rating of 7.1/10 via Sofascore, and he looked as though he had played the fixture countless times, looking calm on the ball, and offering an attacking threat from a wide position.

The Turk delivered five crosses and attempted three dribbles, while his defensive contributions were key in Rangers' win. He won four of his six ground duels, made three tackles and two interceptions, displaying great maturity against a tough opponent in Liel Abada.

A full pre-season under his belt will do Yilmaz the world of good, and he could well be ready to become a leading light for the Gers next season if Beale puts his trust in him going forward.

Kohli, Dhoni the only cricketers in ESPN's World Fame 100

Virat Kohli, in irresistible form in Twenty20 cricket and the captain of the Indian Test team, has found himself in the top ten of the global sports fame list put together by ESPN

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are in the top 20 of ESPN’s list of most popular current sportspersons•BCCI

Virat Kohli, in irresistible form in Twenty20 cricket and the captain of the Indian Test team, has found himself in the top ten of the global sports fame list put together by ESPN.Kohli was at No. 8 in the ESPN World Fame 100 rankings, which is otherwise dominated by basketball and football players. However, cricket and India had a second entry in the top 20, with MS Dhoni, India’s ODI and T20 captain, at number 13. (Read the full list on ESPN.in, ESPN’s new multi-sport destination for Indian sports.)Tennis player Sania Mirza was the third Indian on the list, at number 41.The rankings for current sportspersons were based on a formula devised by Ben Alamar, ESPN’s director of sports analytics; it combined salary and endorsements with social media following and Google search popularity. The list was led by Cristiano Ronaldo, the world’s top-earning footballer. Only LeBron James, the American basketball star, separated Ronaldo from fellow footballers Lionel Messi and Neymar, who both play for FC Barcelona, La Liga rivals of Ronaldo’s Real Madrid.  Tennis legend Roger Federer completed the top five.

Villa could sign their own Salah in "world class" ace

Aston Villa have been linked with a host of players ahead of the summer transfer window, as Unai Emery’s first season nears a close.

The Villans have seen a complete change since the Spaniard took charge in October, going from an underperforming side to one with European football still in their grasp with two games to go.

Since arriving at Villa Park, the 51-year-old has transformed a number of areas of the club, most importantly getting his team firing and being a luring figure ahead of the transfer window this summer.

The four-time Europa League winner’s influence is already evident, with a number of players from both his former club and La Liga speculated to join his project in the Midlands.

What’s the latest on Marco Asensio to Villa?

Earlier this month, it was reported by The Athletic that Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio was a target for Emery to bring to Villa Park on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old is out of contract in Madrid this summer, sparking rumours of his potential exit on a free transfer.

It has since been reported by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano that the Spaniard’s priority is to extend with Los Blancos, with interest remaining from clubs in both England and Italy.

What can Marco Asensio bring to Villa?

Signing for Real Madrid at the age of 19 signifies a hot prospect in Europe more than any other indicators, take Martin Odegaard who signed at the Bernabeu at just 16-years-old.

During his rise to fame, Asensio has made 283 appearances for Madrid and has an extensive honours list to his name, including three Champions League wins.

Sealing the deal for a player that’s won so much could be culture-changing at Villa, and a sign of changing tides as the club showcases its pull for talent.

More importantly, on the field, the Palma de Mallorca-born star could be revolutionary for Emery’s plans.

Once raved as having the capacity to be “world-class” by previous national-team manager Vincente del Bosque, the 27-year-old has been one of Europe’s most threatening forwards over the past year, as highlighted by FBref.

The Spaniard has been short of minutes this campaign following the rise of Rodrygo, however, has made his time count, averaging 0.65 non-penalty goals per 90, the highest across Europe’s top five leagues in his position.

Likened to “unbelievable” Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah, the Madrid forward is similar in his playing style to the Egyptian that has dominated the Premier League, as shown through his directness on the ball, averaging 4.85 shot-creating actions per 90, as per FBref, who also compare his statistical profile to that of the 30-year-old sensation.

Emery could therefore land his own version of Salah in the £118k-per-week dynamo, not just through his raw talent, but the manager’s track record in utilising and squeezing the best out of his wide players in the past – take Bukayo Saka as an example.

The potential move could change the entire outlook of Villa’s 2023/24 campaign, with an accomplished star seeing Villa Park as a suitable place to continue his game and influence the Premier League.

With the winger hoping to renew in Madrid and no official progression in talks surrounding a contract, only time will tell if the Spaniard will arrive in the Midlands this summer.

David Warner defends his big bats

David Warner has defended his use of thick, lightweight bats, and said he believed flat pitches were a more significant factor in any perceived imbalance between bat and ball

ESPNcricinfo staff08-Jul-20161:55

‘There are pros and cons to using big bats’ – Warner

David Warner has defended his use of thick, lightweight bats, and said he believed flat pitches were a more significant factor in any perceived imbalance between bat and ball in Test cricket.Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting recently argued for greater regulation of bat depth and weight – at present only a bat’s length and width are restricted – in the long form, a call that found support from fast bowler Josh Hazlewood. Ponting will be at the MCC’s World Cricket Committee meeting at Lord’s next week, and he said bat size would be part of the discussion. The Gray Nicolls Kaboom bats used by Warner are notable for the extreme thickness of their edges, but they are made of a lightweight wood that makes them deceptively easy to wield. Warner said there were downsides to using such bats, including the greater likelihood of being caught off a leading edge, and he said the state of pitches had a greater say in determining scores.”If we look around the country, I think the wickets are pretty much dictating,” Warner told reporters in Sydney on Friday. “A lot of batsmen are scoring a lot of runs, there have been a lot of runs scored in the last 12 to 18 months; you can’t specifically come out and say it is the big bats, because everyone around the country and around the world is scoring a lot of runs. In my mind it is a credit to the bat maker.”Ponting argued that restrictions to bat size should only occur in the longer form of the game and thick, lightweight bats should be allowed to remain in one-day and Twenty20 cricket. In those shorter forms, he said, spectators expected to see plenty of boundaries and entertaining batting, but in Test cricket it was more important to ensure the balance between bat and ball was as fair as possible.”If people think that it is becoming an unfair advantage they will speak their opinions, but we are getting bigger and stronger and are capable of using bats that are a bit heavy,” Warner said. “In Test matches I use a smaller bat unless we are playing in the subcontinent, where I use a heavier bat. My bigger bats might be a lot larger than other players’ bats, but it is still the same cleft of wood.”Australia coach Darren Lehmann said the size of bats were just “about right”, but also expressed safety concerns for bowlers at nets.”Where they [the size of bats] are at now, is about right, maybe a little bit less,” Lehmann said. “They will certainly make it stock standard for everyone. The edges are too big on some of the bats.”I see health and safety as a big issue, especially more so in the nets. To be fair, bowlers and net bowlers in the nets are a real worry for us. The way they hit them now, they are stronger athletes – they hit them harder, there is no doubt about that. It [injuries] are going to happen somewhere, hopefully it doesn’t, but you have just got to be mindful of all that.”

Spurs To Rival Chelsea Amid Links To 2 Goalkeepers

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will look to sign either Andre Onana or David Raya in the summer but will face competition for Chelsea.

Who will Spurs sign as a goalkeeper?

It's no secret that Spurs are in the market for a new goalkeeper with club captain and World Cup winner Hugo Lloris expected to depart.

Indeed, this was recently reported by The Times which went on to say that Brentford shot-stopper Raya is a prime candidate to arrive in north London.

Inter goalkeeper Onana has also been linked with a move to Spurs but Premier League rivals are said to be in the race for the former Ajax man too.

While discussing the possible transfer situation between these English clubs on Chasing Green Arrows, Jones claimed that if Tottenham ends up signing Onana, then Raya will join the other club and vice versa.

He explained (31:09): “I mean, at the moment the links are Chelsea, Tottenham and Man United.

"I mean, I was speaking to someone today about this and we were trying to figure out both what we'd heard and where we thought he [Raya] might go.

"And we were like, basically what we think is going to happen here is Onana is wanted by all these teams too – mainly to be fair, Tottenham and Chelsea because [David] De Gea will probably end up staying.

“So it's like, whoever gets Onana, Raya ends up going to the other club.”

Will Raya join Tottenham or Chelsea?

It remains to be seen who Spurs will prefer to chase but with Onana keeping a clean sheet in two Champions League semi-final legs against AC Milan to send Inter to the final, it's safe to say he's got a slightly higher profile right now.

However, Raya has proven himself as a pretty impressive goalkeeper in England, keeping an impressive 19 clean sheets from 60 games during Brentford's first-ever two seasons in the Premier League.

Seeing as Tottenham are certain to finish higher in the divisions than Chelsea, they might seem like the most attractive option in some sense.

Andre-Onana

However, both teams are currently not in great shape and Daniel Levy might struggle to make any major transfer advances while his side fails to have either a manager or a sporting director.

In west London, however, Mauricio Pochettino is set to take charge so the Blues may be able to swoop in and have their pick of Onana or Raya first, leaving the unwanted goalkeeper to arrive at Spurs.
